"The investment arms of the CIA and Google are both backing a company that monitors the web in real time — and says it uses that information to predict the future.

The company is called Recorded Future, and it scours tens of thousands of websites, blogs and Twitter accounts to find the relationships between people, organizations, actions and incidents — both present and still-to-come. In a white paper, the company says its temporal analytics engine “goes beyond search” by “looking at the ‘invisible links’ between documents that talk about the same, or related, entities and events.”

    it's a pretty damn interesting "engine", and I'm sure it's going to have the conspiracy theorists going bat**** crazy.

    if you think about it though, it IS kinda scary... big brother is here, and he's WATCHING YOU.

    • Yep. I was hoping we could focus the discussion more on the practical applications of the engine for marketers. I just signed up for the free version last night and definitely will be taking a look at the paid service at some point.
  • Reminds me of antoher company who are using something similar to predict the outcome of a movies' actual earnings.

    • Interesting yet, sort of alarming at the same time.

      I did have to chuckle while reading the article, imagining the "jihad" sitting on Facebook and chatting about their terrorist plans while attending to their Farmville farms, lol. All the while one of the cows had an ear piece and was listening in. But, that's just because I am a wacko.

      I think this sort of thing will continue to spread throughout the interwebs, just think of the effect it could have on tracking the source of all the pirated materials being shared all over the web. I still say it is a small part of the population which rips every product they buy and puts it up on the web to be shared. Targeting those major players by tracing their movements could prove useful.

      Then again, I like having my freedoms and privacy and this is just one more step towards the inevitable reduction of the wild west internet playground we all utilize to make a living.

      This could be the beginning of more targeted buying trends and the big guys who have the capital to severely undercut all our niche sites coming online and dominating

      churn baby churn...lol
