Step By Step - How to get the MOST out of an Ezine Article!

I am constantly reading the posts on here and everyday (usually multiple times a day) people have article marketing questions. There is no problem with asking questions. Questions are how you learn.

What I'm about to share with everyone is a step by step method how article marketing has worked for me, and I hope it can benefit everyone. If you don't implement it, maybe it can give you some new ideas of your own.
This is my opinion on how to get the most traffic from an article.

Okay - this method is assuming you submit all of your articles to EZA, with a good title, good article content, and a good resource box.

**************************************************

1st Step: Open up Word Pad - or whatever you like to use. The program you use must be easy to copy and paste that is really the only requirement.
  • Type out the keywords you are going to target in your article and separate them with commas. -- press enter a few times
  • Create your title --- then press enter a few times.
  • Create your article summary --- press enter a few times
  • TYPE THE ARTICLE ---- and press enter a few more times.
  • Then of course type up your resource box.
Each part of writing an article is equally important do not neglect anything. Once you are done SAVE YOUR ARTICLE TO YOUR COMPUTER.

**************************************************

2nd Step: Submit your article to EZA. (ezinearticles.com) This should be easy because you just saved it to your computer. (The reason for pressing enter a few times between the different parts of the article was to help you stay organized.)

**************************************************

3rd Step: Wait one week - my favorite step for my method to market an article

*************************************************

4th Step: After that week has passed you are going to do some more with that article. Go back to your original article which you saved on your computer and copy your resource box. Then yes you guessed it press enter a few more times and paste it below the original one.

You are going to make some slight changes - on this resource box make one of the links point to your approved EZA article, and let the other still point to your webpage. Once you have completed this...

************************************************** *

5th Step: Submit your article with your new resource box (the one with one link pointing to your EZA article and the other pointed to the site that you are trying to promote) to the following 10 sites:
  1. Go Articles (goarticles.com)
  2. Articles Base (articlesbase.com)
  3. Search Warp (searchwarp.com)
  4. Article Dashboard (articledashboard.com)
  5. Buzzle (buzzle.com)
  6. Article Alley (articlealley.com)
  7. Amazines (amazines.com)
  8. Isnare (isnare.com)
  9. Article City (articlecity.com)
  10. Hot Article Directory (pubs.acs.org/hotartcl/index.html)
*************************************************

Wrap up: Ok I know what you are thinking submitting your article to all these sites is going to be time consuming... Really it is not too bad once you have your username and password to all of these sites.

You have everything at your fingertips because your article is saved to your computer!

The traffic that ends up going to your EZA article and ultimately the website you are trying to promote grows exponentially and it is definitly going to be worth your time. I wish good fortune to everyone marketing online and I hope everyone has success.

Happy Halloween!

Linking back to your ezine article might help rank it higher, but I'd rather have my other articles send traffic directly to my site instead of to a duplicate article first. Am I missing something?

First of all, thanks for sharing the info. BUT

If I was looking for information and clicked on an article to end up at the same article in a different place I would just leave the page. (maybe even a little annoyed)
So would this give more article views at ezine without really giving you url clicks.
I would rather a small amount of views and a high ctr.

Do you just use this method to get your ezine article to rank higher in google and make it stick?

After all, its about making sales more than getting a LOT of views right.

Not trying to pick the crap out of the method, just trying to understand its ultimate purpose.

          Dooly,

The purpose of this method is yes to get it ranked higher in Google, and yes to get more views to my original Ezine Article. To answer your question my CTR throughout this method has stayed consistent to tests I have tried without submitting it to the other 10 directories... the ratio of people clicking on my resource boxes links to views is the same. The only thing that is different is that more people are doing it.

This method is to make your Ezine Article stand out above the rest. Since EZA is the best directory hands down for traffic it dominates especially with the links from the other high end directories. I hope that answers your question.

            Dustin and Dooly,

I understand why you would think this... I do not know why it works, it just does. This is what I do, and I wanted to share my successes.

I get my traffic from EZA not from the other directories.

If it works, it works. I have a heap of articles saved to my computer that I have only submitted to ezine so I think I will give it a go with some of them to see how it goes.

Like I said, thanks for sharing your tips, not trying to shoot down your method at all.

What if you put a call to action in the first resource box to your website and just write source: then link to your ezine article below the resource box, then you get the link juice and people will probably click the site link instead of the source link to eza.

Mark, sorry to say but you are wrong. Getting raked is what's it's all about because Google will always have more traffic than all the article directories in the world. Worry about getting higher rakings before sales.

Couple questions, did you say to post two resource boxes? Couldn't the same effect be done by just posting an extra link below the reource box to the Ezine article?

And are you using anchor text for the article link to Ezine?

      Neil, to answer your questions...

did you say to post two resource boxes?

No, just have the two different variations of your original available at your disposal to copy any paste on your word processor.

Couldn't the same effect be done by just posting an extra link below the reource box to the Ezine article?
      Yes, it can!

Yes, I write all the articles myself.

how often do you submitt an article for a product?

I try to submit at least one brand new fresh article a day to EZA. Once a week passes after the article is accepted to EZA I submit it to the other 10 directories.

    I use similar method:

    1. Submit to ezinearticles. Wait till approved.
    2. Rewrite the article and use article syndicate service to build back links to the ezinearticle's articles.
    3. Boost Ezinearticles ranking and views, if hit most viewed in the category...

bam, all the traffic flood to my site...!

Just a thought. Why not set up a chain?
I post to eza, wait a week, post the same article on the other directories.
Next day I post a new article to eza but when I post that article to the 10 directories that resourse box has a link to "more articles" with a link to last weeks EZA.

      rinse repeat...

Just a quick question...What do you think about this strategy
I post one article to EZA. Wait a week, then post the same article to 10 directories listed above (With same resource box).

Do you think I'll get any traffic this way from other directories as well?

Do you think this traffic will be more than what you get from your method?

          Bhupinder -

You can use this strategy.... I have tried doing this before, however the point of having the link to your original EZA article is to pump up it's value to the search engines! Since an EZA article is already extremely powerful without the links from the other article directories pointing to it, it becomes unstopable with them!

      Great post, worth a try.
I think the problem of people clicking the link at go articles, or the other 9, and coming back to the main eza article could be easily fixed by having a resource box catered around just one link mainly and than have the EZA link at the very bottom of the resource box sort of hidden?

he isnt saying that you shouldnt link back to your articles in the articles in those other directories..hes simply saying that you should include a link back to your ezine article someway below the resource box.

so it shouldnt really make a difference when it comes to the long term.

I see how it works, and like the general approach (and use it to some degree), but agree wtih Emailrevealer that it's better to link back to a related article. That way, readers will get MORE exposure to my info and hopefully will feel even more compelled to click on the link.

                A question about Buzzle.com

I have the impression that Buzzle insists on getting original articles only, i.e., being the first where the articles are published.

So you've never run into any problems with them even though your article is already on Ezinearticles.com?

        Cool...
Everybody this will work, and for the amount of effort you have to put in (almost none) it is really worth it.

I can see almost doubling the amount of views on my article using this, and chances are people at go artciles and the other 9 directories will be clicking through to your site not to your EZA article (if you word the resource box right)

Any newbie out there should really consider doing this

    Jeffrey, thanks for this man,

I'm using some popular article distributor and I've noticed some other articles from other authors, their resource boxes had one link to ezinearticles.com and another link to his mainsite.com, Really didn't fully understand why would they want to link to their ezine article.

This really must be powerful because ezine has his original authority, so if your article on ezine gets backlinks, it would be really easy for google to give it higher ranking and dominate more keywords.

I think to maximize the traffic you will be getting from ezines, is to write a good ezine bio box as well, so you get i higher click through rate.

    Thanks Again.

Hey, great idea... makes sense from a long term perspective to do this strategy instead of using both links in your other articles on your own site. Not sure if two links close together to one page really help out or not anyways...

Yeah... I'm sure two links doesn't hurt. It's just that I don't think it helps that much.

Following your guide, I just came across this in Buzzle's Editorial Guidlines.

Articles that are already published online will not be accepted.
Do their searches not pick up the 7 day old Ezine article? Or are they referring to articles that are not your own.

Hi. What if you are using multiple pen names for your articles? Do you have to set up several different accounts on the other article directories using those pen names? I have only used EZA so I am not sure if the other article directories allow you to use different pen names.

        Experiment done.

        I had ten related EZ articles, I have copied all of these to 8 other directories. In the resource box below my normal resource signature and link I have placed the following text;

"Another article by [My Name][Anchor Text Link back to different EZ Article]

Not all the articles have been approved yet, so i don't know if they will get knocked back for linking to EZA. I will watch the stats and get back to you.

          Hey Jeffrey,

Do you have a set number of competition in quotes that you find this method works best for.

          Jame58rown,

I am also in the process of doing this with all of my ezine articles (16). Let us know your outcome. I will post mine here also.
I am excited to do this with one in particular. The keyword I am focusing on has about 14,600 competitors in quotes and gets around 900 google searches a day. At the moment it is floating on page 2 of google, between 12 and 19.
Hopefully this method will get me on page 1.

            James,

This method had different results depending on the keyword competition of course, and I do not really have a set number I can recommend for you to use regularly. What I do for my keyword research; at least on "Google's Keyword External Tool," is look for words with 30,000 competitors or less. More important then knowing what you are going against is how much it is being searched though right?

Before I even check out how many competitors I am going to be facing off against I look to see how many times a potential keyword is being searched.

It is very important to look to see how many times a keyword is being searched.

            Okay and for some more,

What I'm looking for is a keyword that is being searched (the more long tail the keyword the better) and then with less then 30,000 competition. I have tested this method with more competition - and I tend to have success with it too just not as regularly.

1st part of having success with an article
            : People are viewing it.

2nd part of having success with an article: People are clicking your links.

If you see that people are viewing your article and no one is clicking on your links... do not just be like dammmmmmmmmmmmmit - and stop with the article. You did half the battle getting people to your article. It is not a bad thing to edit your article (especially your resource box) to optimize for click through. It will be well worth your time!

A resource box is the bottom part of an article when you are doing the submitting. It is the part where you have your URL and you are trying to get the reader to click on it to go to your page. It is a very important part of an article. When you start to submit articles, the directories have everything clearly labeled so you will not be confused.

        Hey everyone....

Here is a list of the "top 50 article directories":

List Of Top 50 Article Directories By Traffic, PageRank:

        http - www - vretoolbar - com / articles / directories.php

(sorry... the forum won't let me post this link naturally since I'm a newbie to the forum.)

Since some of the article directories on Jeffrey's original master list of 10 directories tend to be problematic eg) requiring a minimum of 500 words, requiring only unique content, being a chemistry journal, only allowing one link, etc., I'm sure we can have a field day with this "master list" of 50 article directories.

Imagine if we could get our articles duplicated on as many of these 50 as possible! Imagine how much potential traffic we could get!!!!

Awesome post...thanks for sharing some of your article writing and submission tips.

I was wondering how to get the link juice to my already approved EZA articles until you revealed all. You see i tried to submit an article for editing to EZA with an already approved EZA article url sitting as a link in the resource box - they said no way! Your method is guaranteed so i now plan to take my approved EZA articles and with minor adjustments, submit them with links pointing towards my income producing articles on EZA. I will use the list of directories you have provided plus the 2 aboutallah added in his post.

This should increase traffic to my site and hopefully sales also.

Depends on how many directories you want to submit to. If you're just doing 10 as he talked about in the original post, then no, I don't think it would be worth your while. However, if you wanted to hit 100 or something like that for each article, then yeah, for sure it could help.

What a fantastice idea. I would never in a month of Sundays thought about linking to my Ezine Articles article from the other directories while at the same time continuing to link to your web site.

I'm surprised that the other directories allow you to do this though, link to another competing directory?

Thanks for the great idea. I'm definately going to put this to work right away. I also have 30 or 40 articles that I have only posted to EZA.

I also picked up another tip on WF that I'm beginning to test right now which is to use RSSbot or similar to submit your EZA rss feed for additional links.

This may just put me up there for the more consistent income I've been looking for.

Makes perfect sense since the other article directories (in my experience) result in very little traffic, so having them supply link juice to yoru EZA is a good strategy.

I have done this with social networking sites and forwarding a link back to my articles on "do follow" blog comments to bump up EZA ranking - works very well.

        Hi Jeffery,

What if, when I send off my 10 EZA articles, all about the same niche, to the other 10 directories, rather than have a link to the same article on EZA I included a link one of the other similar articles. Each of the 10 with a link to one of the others.

That way if someone does happen to click on the EZA link they are not taken to the same article because we might lose them if they do. The similar article on EZA might hold their interest until they reach the resource box. But the 10 EZA articles still have the same amount links to them to boost their position in Google.

Would this be better or am i missing something? Its all a bit new to me and this curve is pretty steep.

This can quite possibly be better.. it will just take more time and organizing. But if you get in a routine and plan which articles you are going to submit to a given EZA it can be really effective.

How do you like JetSpinner? I'd be interested to see the results from it. Do you find them of similar quality to the original article, or obvious knockoffs?

I guess my concern with spinners is that people will see them as poorly written articles and not click through. For purely SEO purposes, you'll still be building links, and Google won't nail you for duped content, but ultimately articles are about getting people to read then take action, right?

              just curious...

Great post Jeff! Very useful information.

Quick question- do you rewrite the articles before you submit them to the article directories that link to your EZA link or do you only change the resource box?

This is just pure gold. Never thought before of doing SEO on my own articles. Since I get a lousy clickthrough rate I think something is smelling in my resouce box

What if I link my other relevant articles on EZA all together? Will that make some difference?

Of course it will help... the more activity (ie. links to your article) the more important it will be seen to the search engines.

Article writing is great but think about all the competition that there is when it comes to article marketing in the WORK AT HOME field.

You need to find keywords that no one else is using and that is one of the ways to get more traffic without all the competition that is out there.

I am not saying that article marketing does not work, I am just saying that you need to think outside the box and write about things that don't have much competition.

Don't devote your entire marketing efforts on article marketing.

Yes it is okay to bookmark all the articles... my suggestion for you if you are going to be doing some social bookmarking though is to just bookmark your EZA articles.... If you do the others it will just take too much time, for not enough ROI. The point is to get your EZA article big and powerful anyways.

The whole point of the thread IS NOT to get people clicking from another directory to EZA.
The point is to get as many backlinks as possible pointing to EZA therefore your EZA article gets ranked highly in Google.

Correct me if I am wrong please.

Are you guys varying the anchor text that link back to your EZ article in your resource box from the other 10 directories linking to this EZ article? Or can we keep it the same for every 10 links? For example if the EZ article was about "blue widgets" is it better to vary the anchor text like "new blue widgets," small blue widgets," "big blue widgets," etc.? Also for the other link in the resource box is it better to point it to the internal url of the article that sits on your page or the homepage of your site?

I like the idea of linking back to similar EZA articles you've written as another Warrior suggested. You're still creating backlinks by pointing to your other EZA articles, and if the reader does click through, they won't get annoyed at clicking through to the exact same article they were just reading. Won't this be just as effective?

Seems like this strategy would be even more effective because you're getting the backlinks, but you're also pointing your readers to even more great content created by you. Am I missing something?

I used to write all my articles, but I just don't have the time anymore. I had a hard time moving toward hiring out because I liked having control of my content. However, it's worked out for me, especially now that I have much more $ than time. I've had no problems with my ghostwritten articles. I guess it's a matter of choice. One suggestion off the top of my head is to try and get a referral to a writer, as there are many charlatans out there who will gladly take your money but who will not deliver what they promised!

Maybe this is a bit off topic. Sorry.

Jeffrey, Article base has a no follow tag for anchor text, Buzzle will remove your article if they find it on another site, and for the person that asked about the social bookmarketing many of the top sites will not let you bookmark Ezine Articles.

I don't think so as long as it is legit. Remember the whole purpose of an article is to get traffic to your webpage which then of course can possibly lead to a sale. So the better the article the better chance of that happening. I have found that article marketing is the best way to get potential buyers because you can gain your readers trust. With the knowledge you can present to someone in an article you can really convert people who are thinking about buying a product they are interested in - to actually buying that product they are interested in.

I agree with Jeffrey, as long as the software you're using is quality, you should be fine. The most challenging site I've found to deal with is EZA; they don't accept every article for many different reasons. This may pose as a problem with software. What I usually do, is create an article selectively for EZA because they get better traffic, and higher quality readers. Then I'll create another article for the other directories because it's easer to get it accepted there, and I'm really looking for linking power from those.

I'm not saying to do this, I'm just saying that's what I do, and seems to work pretty well. Jeffrey's strategy it top notch!

    This is a solid strategy!

Anyone interested in acquiring solid, quality traffic, should take this to heart. I am incredibly greatful for your work you put into this thread!

That is a very interesting idea. I've actually had more success ranking high in SERPs with Ezine Articles than anything I've ever written on my blog. Pointing links to the Ezine Article to help it rank even higher I think would ultimately result in more traffic generation and thus more sales. Thanks very much. My mind is already working out the possibilities....

Another extra way would be to use the program senuke with another article that is spun.
So you get lots of spin articles linking to the ezine article and they are all unique. So it builds up links and anyone coming to the ezine article has not read it.

    Ok,

I write an article to EZA, then submit to many other directories.

Will this work if I go to the other directories and edit my resource box to include the link back to the original article at EZA?

I'm going to do this anyway, but I just wanted to know if that works as well?

Yes - for each of my different niches I use a different pen name on EZA. Not only does it keep your articles organized but you can target your audience in different angles . I have one main account at EZA which I use for most of my niches... I have another but I don't use it anymore. That account was back when I first started I think it has about 5 articles on it...

    Jeffrey,

I have done this with just one directory but will add a few more. Do you use both anchor text as well as a plain http: link? I think some people just copy/paste so people recommend using a plain http link also without anchor text. I wouldn't do that for the eza link but for one's main site.

Do the sites you listed above all allow for 3 links (ie 2 with anchor text and one plain http w/o anchor text)?

My EZA resource boxes have two links in my resource box. For example lets use your plr ebooks on dating and loneliness URL in your forum signature cause it looks like you are selling those:

"There's no choice when it comes to the dating and loneliness niche. If you do not know what you are talking about people will no. Make the easy and wise decision and check out our selection of private label rights ebooks. It is a great price, and top notch quality you can not go wrong by checking them out.

Expand you online empire by visiting http://www.socialsitesmarketing.com/salespage2.html
      "

      .... or something like that.

EZA only allows two links... not sure if it is in their guidelines or not but I've tried putting in a third a couple of times and they just make me re-write the resource box OR they fix it themselves and publish it for me.

I hope I was able to answer your questions.

P.S. You should change the name of that .html file... if I saw something say salespage2.html I would click away. Just my thoughts.

    Hi Jeffery,

My question about the 3 links was actually about the 10 sites that link to ezinearticles. I know doing this is ok for goarticles (ie 2 links with anchor texts and one that is plain http. Do you know if that's true for the other 9 sites that link to the eza? PS Good point about the url of one of my plr ebooks but it's already in search engines so I don't want to change things.

      Debbie,

The other article directories have different limitations. Not all of them even let you put more then one link. If this is the case point that one link to your EZA article.

Yes you can submit it to as many article directories as possible because you will never be penalized for it. The reason I listed the ones in the post is because I don't want anyone to be wasting there time. After submitting your article to those directories you should have enough quality backlinks that you should not need to worry about that article anymore... If you would like to keep submitting an article to more after that though it will not hurt you so go right ahead. It should only help!

About how long after you submit your article to all of these directories does it take for your EZA article to start ranking higher? Just curious. I have been using your system for about a week now, and I did notice one of my old articles is showing back up near the top of page 2.

Started implementing this technique to quite a few of my articles.

Going to be redoing the resource box of over 200 already submitted articles across several sites. I've been trying to link them to different articles too, so that way if someone DOES click on the EZA link, they will go to an article I wrote in the same niche, but different article.

I'll probably see more results once I really get going, but thanks again for sharing this tip!

The other article directories do not mind as long as it is your content you are putting on there. Search engines also do not penalize you for having articles on duplicate sites.

Here is a little guideline I use for my resource boxes:

I try to cover these 5 areas in my resource box. (1) Say there is no reason they should have the problem your trying to help. (2) Give a call to action like click here and say if you click here you will get rid of the problem. (3) Tell the reader that there is more to learn about their problem. (4) Then I try to include the keyword I'm using in my article and give a call out to try to get people to come to the page. (5) Then I try to say something like: everyones doing it, or join everyone else or something like that.

      Hope that helps

Your information was good. But I have doubts about the duplication of the article. What happens if the article does not invite enough traffic because it was put on the site earlier also? Now, you would have made only some changes and what does it matter to the readers since very minor changes would have been made and otherwise it remains the same? Sorry, I don't really understand how you guarantee it works.

      OK.

I went ahead and implemented the technique on the article I mentioned earlier in the thread.

Its just one article but I really wanted to see what happened.

The competition in quotes is 14,600 for the keyword I am targeting.
It gets about 900 searches a day.

Most of the sites on the first page are authority sites so I never liked my chances of getting number 1 with an article.

When I submitted my article it bounced a bit and the highest I seen it was 31. Sometimes it wasn't there at all. I submitted to the other directories except for acs because I couldn't find a catagory that fit my article. It seemed like it was for more complicated subjects.

I checked the keyword about 20 minutes ago and there was my article, on page 1, number 5 to be exact. I was stoked. I'm not getting to excited because I know what google is like. I will give it time to settle and see if it sticks. I will take number 5 on google for a keyword that gets 900 searches a day any day of the week.

The thing that has me stumped is without quotes I'm at number 5, page 1, with quotes I'm on page 5. What does that mean?

Anyway, so far I think this method definately works and I will be implementing it with all my articles.

      Well done Jeffrey!! Great info!!

      Dave,

You should try it again. Only submit your articles to EZA first and then put it on the other pages. I would not duplicate an article and put it on your blog however because you may get punished in the search engines. Just duplicate your article on other article directories. You will get the backlinks you need to pass up your competition.

If you love your article and you feel you must put it on your Squidoo page then change it up so it is different. I hope that helps.

I submitted the article to about 6-7 other article directories, and in the Bio box of each I linked back to the Ezinearticle (a strategy a fellow warrior suggested) in order to achieve better rankings for just the Ezinearticle.

Today when I ran a search for my keyword, my ezine article had been removed from not only the first page, but is nowhere to be found at all (unless I Google the query in quotes).

Did my article most likely receive some kind of duplicate content penalty? Is it unacceptable to post the same article in different directories? (I had heard that it was, but now am unsure)

        Karl,

Wo! I'm sorry. I am not sure what happened. You should not get penalized for the duplication of content. The only way you would might get penalized for the duplication of content is if you did not link back to your original EZA article....but I'm not even too sure about that... thinking.... spinning an article/changing an article would only work if you want to make a new article entirely. This is not what I'm trying to accomplish here.

I do not know what to tell you other then to try it again. This method does work, and it really allows you to get the most out of an Ezine article.

Many people have been pming me about things like competition. When does a keyword have too much competition to article market with your method?

The answer is it depends... sometimes getting placed highly on search engines does take more then just linking it to the ten article directories I have suggested here, most of the time it does not.

I'd suggest for all of you to just try it yourself on those keywords you would never touch - not ones like "make money online" or "lose weight" but you know what I mean.

Not saying you don't have a chance to place for those two keywords it's just going to take alot more effort then the process I suggested.

This is how I'd do it if I were going to give it a go though:

Your title would have to say "How to make money online"
Then you'd link to those 10 article directories...
    Probably more article directories...
Then you'd link it from blogs...
    Social bookmarks...
Get your friends on Myspace to link to your article...

And a hell of a lot more including probably getting a new link to your article for many days and moons to come.

Yes it is the combination of the content on the article and of course the importance of the page that is pointing to it...

    Jeffrey

I seem to be having a little problem. I started using this technique two weeks ago, submitting my ezine articles to 10 other high page rank article sites (mostly the ones you mentioned). Today I was checking to see where my articles were at, and to my surprise I couldn't find my original Ezine article anywhere in site, but some of the other sites I submitted the article to (Searchwarp and Articlesbase were two I noticed) were showing up on pages 2, 3, etc.

Is this normal? I used my long-tail keywords as text links back to my Ezine articles, but they are no where to be found! Just your thoughts about why this may be. If this isn't going to boost my Ezine article, I would rather spend my time doing other things.

    Thanks for your help!

      Tess,

The only thing I could think of is that there could be an issue with EZA at the moment... sometimes this happens to my articles too. Although it really rare it does happen. Hang in there your EZA article will be at the top. If your Search Warp article is on page 2 or 3 it is a good sign that your EZA article will probably be on page one shorty.

    Hi Jeffrey -

I'm still having trouble with this method. I have used this strategy on about 15 articles in the last 2 1/2 weeks, and I can't find a one of my EZA on any of the top 3 or 4 pages. I have waited for one week after my EZA gets published, then backlinked to my article from 10 different high PR article sites.

I don't seem to be seeing any results at all. These are not high competition keywords, and I am using my keywords as a text link for linking back to my EZA.

Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions on this? I don't know whether to keep doing it or not. It sure doesn't seem to be effective so far.

Jeff! I used your method and my article actually started climbing in the ratings. Then, last week, I did some editing on it. Little did I know that Ezinearticles would take almost a week to re-approve it. Anyway, what happened is that Google completely dropped my article from its ratings (probably because it was a dead link for a week).

My question is - if I keep plugging away with your technique (using that article link in the resource box), will it reappear in the ratings again?

Maybe somebody said this but I"m tired and don't have time to read every post at the moment. I have read elsewhere that having the same article on different sites actually is something search engines like google don't like and it takes the ranking down.

If not, what is the big no no with having the same article in different places that people always talk about? I have just heard many times it is not a good idea. Why would people say that? Thanks. I guess it can't hurt to try it with a few of my articles.

2 weeks have gone by since I posted my results from this technique.

I havn't tried any other articles in that 2 weeks because google was bouncing my article around like a rubber ball. I was losing faith in the method, some days I was on page 1, then page 2 or 3, then nowhere.

In the last couple of days I have been checking in on it more and noticed that most of the time it has been on page 1, number 4. A couple of times it has been between 12 and 15 but mostly 4. I think it is starting to stick.

The keyword that I targeted with this method has a few authority sites on the first page so I am still happy and very surprised with the results so far. I think with some social bookmarking I can get it to stick on page 1 permanently, but this method has definately had a positive effect on the page rank of the article.

I have decided it is worth the extra effort to implement this method on future articles to get them to stick. It doesn't take that long now that all of the accounts are set up.

Thats my experience so far with this anyway.............

Jeffrey, are you still looking at this topic? A few questions before I try this. Sorry if I missed it but I read all the pages. On the other sites you submit the article to, are you using the same author name as on ezine? Same profile pic? Doesn't matter? Does matter?

I'm understanding mostly the main, important thing is to give the link to the ezine article in the resource box on other article submission sites?

Hope I'm making sense. I'm tired and this post is poorly written. Seems like I had one or two more questions about this but really can't remember them right now.

Sounds like an interesting strategy, I think I might try this. I can see the advantage of boosting the search engine rankings of an article on EzineArticles .Com but ultimately the object is to build links back to my site and to increase traffic so anything that can do that am interested in and I'm sure we all are. Thanks for the info and well explained...

      RS,

First of all welcome to the forum. Secondly, Ring Success kind of sounds like my domain but hey. Anyways to answer your question, there would be no reason to submit and article to Ezine, or any article directory for the matter if you do not have a web page or a blog of some sort to point it to.

Yes good information by Jeffrey. Thanks for that.
Besides just submitting to articles directory, I actually also mapped out an idea to power up and add more backlinks to the main article.

Create hubpages, squidoo, and blogger using the same article with the 2 links (1 link to your money site, 1 link to your ezine)
Create more web 2.0 network sites (i called them the 2nd tier) like wordpress, weebly, etc but now backlinks these sites to your 1st tier hubpages, squidoo and blogger.
Then bookmark these 2nd tier sites using web 2.0 bookmarking sites.
This will support the 2nd tier with enough backlinks which in turn support your 1st tier sites and main site.
I have not really try out and implement this, as been too busy creating blogs and reading all the ebooks and IM stuff
I am a newbie just starting out. But I think this will sufficiently power up the ranking of your main site and ezine article.
Good luck to all.. And I am still waiting to earn my first dollar of profit

Thanks for your answer. One more question. How do you cite the ezine article? With a direct address link, or a word link. I mean, do you disguise the link? And what wording do you use to point back to that article? Something like, "Read more about it here at http://ezine...."? Thank you if you have time to enlighten me.

    Hi Jeffrey,

I have a couple of questions on whether you can do this:

    1) You mention writing 1 article and submitting it 10 article directories each pointing back to the original article.

What if you wrote 500 articles and submit each of those articles to 10 article directories, each pointing back to that original article, does that mean you would have 5000 backlinks all pointed to 1 article?

    2) To expand further on this concept, what if you bought an article submitter and you wrote 500 articles pointed back to the original article and the submitter automatically sent them to 150 article directories, does that mean you would have 75000 backlinks pointed back to that 1 article?

Buzzle quite clearly does not allow duplicate content as that was the main notice I saw when trying to sign up. I'm reticent to blatantly break their rules and just try to get away with it so I did not sign up with them. I'm signing up for the other 9 right now. Adrian Monk would be displeased with me signing up for 9 and not a nice, round number like 10.

I hope this can really increase traffic to my articles and at the end to my site as I am really interested in making a full time living from the internet and nowhere near that at the moment.

I have been using this method for a month or longer so far, and it isn't working at all for me. I don't know why!

My keywords are NOT highly competitive. Most have 12,000 or less competing sites. I have linked back to my Ezine Articles using keyword text links, but not good results. In fact, most of the articles I have done this with were ranking much better before I did this!

Any idea why this might be? For example, I had an article that was consistently on page 2 for my keywords. After I used this technique, it is normally now on page 4 or 5. Doesn't make sense to me, unless Google doesn't like linking an article back to the exact same article.

I'm completely at a loss about this!

I'm having almost the exact same experience as you Tess...

I tried this backlinking method about 4 weeks ago with 10 articles in one niche and another 3 articles in a different niche.

Most of my keyword phrases have less than 15,000 searches and are not dominated by authority sites.

Here are my results from niche #1:

      - 10 articles submitted using this method
      - 1 article on 1st page of google
      - 1 article on 3rd page of google
      - Remaining 8 not found on first 5 pages

      Niche #2

      - 3 articles submitted
      - 2 articles on 2nd page of google
      - Remaining 1 not found on first 5 pages

I'm also noticing that some of the articles I submitted to articlealley, articledashboard and articlesbase are showing up ahead of the EZA I was linking to.

I'm followed the method meticulously, using proper anchor text, etc. Of course it's very possible I'm overlooking something obvious. It wouldn't be the first time

I have an idea of what the problem may be in the case of niche #1. This niche, although not dominated by authority sites, is very saturated with by web 2.0 sites including other EZA articles. It could be that I simply need a more aggressive backlinking strategy above and beyond the method outlined here.

Tess, are you using this method in the relationship niche by any chance?

This is a great idea, I have no results to report but I am definitely trying this out.

One comment -- Buzzle has gotten very strict about what they take and unless I'm wrong, they now only accept unique content unless you're willing to publish with no external links. (Sorry, just read page four on this thread and realize I'm repeating this.) They say that if you publish content w/ external links and republish it later, they will scan the web for it and yank your article, frown on your account, curse your firstborn child etc.

I just wanted to mention here that to post to Isnare.com, your article must be at least 500 words long. Some of my articles aren't that long, but you'll need to find another article directory site to get to 10 submitted articles if your article is shorter than 500 words.

As I post to other article sites, I'm finding that some of the other 10 original sites recommended also require at least 500 word articles. For my shorter articles, I am using other sites now to build up to 10 articles to link back to my original Ezinearticle.

If you want to submit your articles to more than 10 directories, simply do a google search for article directory lists. One of the first links I pulled up had a list of many article directory sites. I am going to use articleclick.com as one of my ten article submission sites.

I think the main reason that the article on ezine ranked well was because of all the other links pointing to it found on the other article directories you submitted that same article to.

It makes us reflect upon the purpose of the article being submitted to EZA, is it for the link or are you trying to get referral traffic, because if you have two links on your resource box, chances are you have a 1 out of 2 chance that you get someone annoyed at clicking a link only to find himself on the same article and may simply click out.

Why not test this.. testing is important. Check your EZA stats to see how many clicks your article got, and compare it to your Google Analytics settings and see how many page lands you received from referral traffic from EZA.

My point being, if your EZA stats tell you 100 people are clicking your link, but you are only getting a handful of referral visitors from EZA (according to Google Analytics or any tracking program)then it shows a majority of the people clicking the link on your article don't bother to click the other link that points to your site or offer.

I used the word "offer" because I look at it at a sales perspective, with the main objective for putting up an article to getting targeted traffic to see offers on your site and hopefully convert into a customer.

If there is testing and statistics to show, we would be able to conclude whether this method helps bring you visitors or simply shoos them away.

Today the focus is not merely on high rankings but rankings that convert.

I don't know what other SEO's position on the matter is but for me top rankings on SERPs are meant to be there to get conversions and not simply to rank. Just my 2 cents.

I do have a question about this method. I have 11 articles posted on Ezinearticles.com. Which articles should I post to the other 10 article sites? I took my article with the least number of clicks and posted it to the 10 other sites. Next, I was thinking about taking my best performing article on Ezinearticles and doing the same thing. Does it really make a difference which article I submit to other directories?

Buzzle banned my account... I'm guessing it's because of their "duplicate content" rule. They supposedly go out and proactively look to see if this article is already there on the Internet....

Any quick and dirty ideas on how to circumvent this problem?

    Great Idea!

But I think just from a content value perspective, if you're going to submit to only 10 other article directories, why not change the title and the first paragraph prior to each submission?

    Happy Halloween!
cant you use other article directories using this method other than those directories you listed or is it not advised?

    thanks

      Thanks Jeffrey,

I'm going to get right to it.

I think I'll try to link to related articles rather than to the exact duplicates though.

Also I have a couple of additional thoughts:

      1) Since EZA is okay with 300 word articles and some others require 500, that opens the way to solve the duplicate content issue right there... Just expand the rticle by a couple of points, especially at the beginning, change the title some and presto: new article!

      2) I was wondering if it might not be even more effective to do that link posting thing gradually and not all on one day. i.e., post them all to one ezine a day (and then ezine #2 the next day, etc.) for a couple of weeks or so, because I think Google likes links even better when they seem to grow "organically"

      3) If you have a whole bunch of old articles (as I do), you may want to consider focusing on the well-performing new ones first, to help them get into EZA's top ten listings. Because if you manage to get one (or more) into that territory, they'll draw many more readers to yuor other articles as well! (and they're only eligible for the top 10 within the first 90 days of their "life" at EZA.

Anyway, I can't wait to put it all to use! And btw, I do use iSnare as well -- just don't count on them for speed, but they do get lots of views, almost as many as EZA, plus they get them published them elsewhere too. So for 1-2 bucks a piece, that's good deal in my view.

      Thanks again,

      Elisabeth

      Many Thanks
Some people do, though I would recommend to change more than the title if you
      do change the title.

Here's what I'm aiming for (though don't always do):

      Have one version at EZA.

Expand (and change title) of the version I submit to iSnare. That's because
they're a submission service in addition to being a directory, and they spread
the article all over the place (and I have discovered that GoArticles has published
quite a few of my articles by way of iSnare).

The nice thing is that you can follow the trail of your articles if you do that.
I.e., I can see which ones have been distributed through iSnare.

Then, if you can, change the article again for an additional set of directories
(or re-use EZA version, or iSnare version, depending on word count
      requirements.)

I don't tend to submit to a lot of additional directories though (i.e., in addition
to iSnare and Amazines). iSnare takes care of some of that for me.

The main additional thing I've done is submit them to a relevant niche directory or
two. And I have never submitted to Buzzle because of that original content
thing. No need to get banned.

Now that I have this system though, I'll add a few more directories to my
line-up, but I probably won't change the articles beyond what I've described
above/below. Especially since I'm not going to send the links to the exact
same articles but to related ones.

Speaking of which... I've already gotten a few extra readers that way it seems!

So basically, the more different versions you have floating about out there,
the better, but it helps to have some actual different content as well -- so I'd
expand them by adding a couple of actual extra points etc.

      Good luck.

It's easy to get around the issue of the same article twice.

    You just need 2 articles.

    Article 1
    Article 2

    Step 1:
Submit Article 1 to EZA (EZA Article 1).
Submit Article 2 to EZA (EZA Article 2).

    Step 2:
Submit the EZA Article 1 to another directory, but this time post a link to EZA Article 2.

Submit the EZA Article 2 to another directory but post a link to EZA Article 1.

    Step 3:

Now people who read your EZA Articles on other directories will be linked to a fresh new article if they click on your link. You also get to keep the benefit of having good PR backlinks.

    Nice!

How in the world have I not seen this thread?!

This sounds like ANTI-SCAM to me...well...a close variation of it. This technique has been passed around under the bleachers for a while. Unfortunately, as things like this hit the mainstream information pool, they quickly lose their effectiveness.

Over the last several months, as this technique has slowly become less and less effective, I have found that Google is looking more for the entire article to be published on other authority sites...not just a link to it on an article directory.

And for what it's worth, I'm seeing some freaky things from Google since January 1st...not just with articles but with my affiliate sales sites as well.

Wow, Jackson. There's just so much and there are so many variables regarding your audience, your niche, your writing style and dozens of other things.

You can liken your articles to your website as far as on-page and off-page optimization.

The best thing to do when you are just starting out is to set a baseline of articles out there and analyze their performance, then start testing with different variations to your articles, both on-page and off-page.

It takes time, but once you begin narrowing down your particular process, the time spent is so well worth it!

      Allen,

I know you mentioned a lot of things I could do, but perhaps a basic one would be this?

Offsite - I should just try and get backlinks to my articles from different places such as Web 2 sites and other article directories like I would normally do to SEO a static web page?

Onsite - ensure my keyword appears in the title, the first 50 words, somewhere in the middle and somewhere near the end of the article?

Yes, there is no reason you cannot have more than one of your pages/articles on the first page of Google. Happens a lot actually.

I was just reading through another forum where an article marketer had, like 3 articles and 3 pages from her website and subdomain on the first two pages of Google for a killer keyword phrase.

No I do not think it would boost your rankings, I just think you would get more traffic to your site initially when the RSS is given out about your article to the RSS subscribers if that makes any sense???? haha

  • Thank you, Jeff. The links pointing to EZA push it higher on the search engines. In the end, the other sites don't really push that much traffic anyway. I the top 12 article directories last year and EZA pushed 86% of the traffic I got from articles. This strategy could push that even higher.

I also think you can take your article, modify it slightly and publish it as a blog post, bookmark it on DIGG and Delicious, submit it to BlogCarnival, make it into a PDF for the free e-book directories and record it for a YouTube video or podcast. Leverage your content.

Internet marketing is all about leverage and working smart. Don't reinvent the wheel. Take the content you're creating and use it in as many different places as you can. Good luck, everyone.

I don't know if this question has already been asked before, but I'm gonna ask it anyway, at the risk of being pointed to some place where it has already been answered. (what an awkward intro)
How many articles one can post to EZA per day? Can I post 10 articles in one day, and if I can would that influence the approval time somehow?

Thank you Jeffrey for this thread.

I don't think there's a limit and like most article directories they actively encourage volume. Your articles just get put in a queue, I've posted 10 in day quite a few times and never noticed any difference.

        Hi dexthor,

as Neil said, there's really no limit, though I would suggest you pace yourself
a bit for maximum visibility because when you have too many articles come
out on the same day in the same category, they may not all make it to the
New Article feature section. So if you write on different things, post just one
or two per topic per day.

The only thing where there's a limit at EZA is at the beginning, when you
have to start with submitting 10 articles (preferably spaced out a bit), and
then apply for an upgrade. Once they've upgraded you to Platinum, you're
good to go. If they only upgrade you to Basic Plus, you only get to write 25
more and then you can apply for another upgrade (to Platinum).

One little tip: If you're new to EZA and speed is important to you, you may
want to upgrade to premium, if only for the first month.

Here's why: They normally take their sweet time with reviewing your
articles. And once you've got 10 approved, you have to wait again
until they tell yuo if you've been upgraded to Platinum. Once you're
at Platinum, they usually review your articles within a couple of days
or so, so that's not too bad.

BUT if you upgrade, they'll review your articles within a few hours
instead of a week or more, and you could make it all the way to
Platinum in a matter of a few days rather than several weeks!
That's worth it if you want a jump start.

I wasn't sure this would be working that way but I've tested it out
now with two of my clients and it worked for both of them like a charm!
Even the upgrade to Platinum that normally can take a week took her,
what, maybe an hour or so from when she sent in her application.
        Sweet!

Once you're at Platinum, you may or may not decide to keep it. One
big advantage once again is that you can actually schedule when you
want your articles to go out, and so you can prevent them from going
out all on the same day. That's very useful. Last time I checked, you
get three months for the price of two, just FYI.

Some of the other article directories do have limits, though. iSnare
only lets you submit 5 per day (and if you're a Platinum or whatever
it is over there member, then you can submit up to 10/day).

Searchwarp I think only lets you submit 3 articles/day.

And SelfGrowth lets you submit 5 I think, but they all have to be in
        different categories.

        Good luck!

You're right on target there - because it isn't more effective.

And you are wasting your money doing it. IMO

Submitting manually doesn't take long. It only takes about 3 minutes at each directory. And since you don't need to submit to 6,500,000 article directories in the first place, you can be done with it in minutes and maintain complete control and integrity!

      Hi amki,

Just saw your question about tracking submissions... without a spread sheet.

A few years back, when I was submitting a whole lot of poems to a whole lot of
magazines and needed to keep close track of them all so that when one of them
was accepted I could write all the others to withdraw mine, I developed a system
with index cards that I might actually reinstitute for my articles, come to think of it.

I had a card for every poem (i.e., now, article), and a card for each magazine (for
directories, you'll probably need more than a card -- maybe a small booklet will work
better, especially once your numbers go up quite a bit).

And then I would note on each poem card the magazine I submitted it to, and vice
versa. Always cross-referenced. Worked great. Should be easy to translate into Word
documents too, and that would help with the size problem.

It was actually a very motivational tracking system -- kept me motivated to keep those
poems circulating. I'm sure it'll do the same thing for articles...

And then you can also have another column or something for the cross-promotions, i.e.,
where you advertised each article (made a link to it).

I started a big file for that too...

Because I prefer not to link to the exact same article but always to a related article, to
add value to the reader, and it works at least as well link-wise, and probably a whole lot
better than just linking to the exact same thing.

Thanks for reminding me of that little system that has just turbo-charged my article submission motivation!

      Elisabeth

I was hoping for something other than a spread sheet; I don't get along with those too well, and I'm waiting for someone to talk about a searchable database--or any other method of organization that does the job efficiently. I have a horror of submitting the same article twice because I haven't done a good job of keeping track of my activities.

Here's another EzineArticles tip: link to your author profile and your extended author profile. Every author has them, and both profile pages link to all your EzineArticle approved submissions. It's a simple way to get some extra link juice going.

Also, the more articles you publish on EA, the more link juice your articles get from these pages, because each article also links back to the main profile. Just look at the list of most prolific expert authors and look at the PageRank of their author profiles.

Don't neglect the extended profile, it lets you add links to your own websites, too, which helps spread the juice....

Yes. Perhaps the simplest way to success with EzineArticles is to publish new articles constantly and consistently, with enticing anchor text in your resource boxes. Sheer critical mass from your own articles and from their being republished on other sites will promote many of them to the front page of Google. Once you do that, there's a positive feedback loop that kicks in as some of your articles start showing up in the "most viewed" section for their category, giving them a big boost across ALL the articles in that category....

Simple, but takes a lot of time and writing!

    Great post!

I too had a few ideas for linking to your ezinearticles.com content.

You could also link related articles together, so the reader doesn't read the same article twice and get confused. For example, submit a different article to all the other directories and link them to your ezine article, kind of like a one-two punch!

Or better yet, write some sort of prequel for your ezine article, with a "to be continued..." theme to improve click through rates, and send that article to the other directories. But the ezine article could still seem like a stand alone piece of content so it wouldn't be lacking anything for the people who view it by itself.

Hey Matt, another strategy that works well and complements article marketing quite well is video marketing. If you're not that familiar with video marketing, don't get scared off just yet - you can use basically powerpoint slideshows and still get great results. Very little editing involved, and you can basically use all the articles you've written, just re-purpose them as a video script.

Then you upload those videos to as many different video sharing sites as possible (I prefer using Traffic Geyser though you have to pay for it).

It can be quite effective, and provides long term traffic.

This is a great strategy that I have used a lot over the last few years. One thing I would add is when you submit to the other directories include 2 links. First one with the main keyword that points back the the Ezineartciles article and then use a related word to link back to your destination.

    Hi Jeffrey,

I just came across your method of marketing your articles you submit to Ezine. I really appreciate it and see you did the post in 2008. Are you still doing them that way and is it still working?

I am just starting out in this biz and wanted to ask if you knew about the adsense. Using it in the resource box of my Ezine. Do I profit from those ads? I know I can't add adsense to my article, well, it shows up there if I add the link in my resource box. But do I profit or does Ezine just get more money from adsense for me posting my link?

Thanks and I will put this on the forum too,

I didn't realize you could put Adsense in your sig, however think about that one for a moment. Don't you want the reader to click on your sig and come through to your site? By putting Adsense there you're actually drastically reducing the chance that they'll click on your link. Sure, you'll make a few cents off their click, but why not have a shot at a sale or signup?

    Jeff

    Thanks for the great information!

I think that some people are worried about duplicate content. Now I am not going to say this is 100% correct but the general consensus seems to be that duplicate content is not an issue as far as Search Engine Rankings / Penalties if its not on the same site.

In other words two identical web pages on two different domains/sites is not going to get you penalized with the search engines. If the two identical/duplicate pages were on the same domain then yes it could get you penalized.

In my opinion following Jeff's strategy is not going to harm your search engine indexing.

And taking this strategy a step further... you could actually link to your EZineArticles.com article from other places as well. You may want to create a squidoo page and or hub page out of the article and have a link from there to EZA. Then go out and look for Blogs that have posts related to the topic of your EZA... make a comment on the blog and when it asks for your website link it to your EZA.

You might not know it, a fellow warrior named Milan Kosanovic released a fantastic Article Submitter/Writer software called Automatic Article Submitter, i wrote a little review here.

This thing beats any article software i have seen so far, eg. it can create 200+ accounts automatically and it can verify them. It has an up-to-date list of the current article directories with their pagerank and traffic stats. It also contains a SEO keyword density analyzer as well as a superb spinner !! and modules for getting article ideas. It can also post and distribute content to your own blogger.com and wordpress blogs!

Its not only the best "submitter" but really a full blown suite for any serious article marketer. I myself have not even seen 20% of what it can actually do, thats why i kept my review short. I am still learning about the features

Whew, what a long thread. I had to make sure this wasn't addressed. I think that some people are missing one big point of linking to their EZA article from other article directories.
If you look at the bottom of your article at EZA there are three sections.:
      • Other Recent EzineArticles from the xxxxxxxxxxx Category:
      • Most Viewed EzineArticles in the xxxxxxxxxxxx Category (90 Days)
      • Most Published EzineArticles in the xxxxxxxxxxxx Category

If you noticed #2 is most viewed. When you link to your article from the other directories chances are your article will show up in this list for the category you placed your article in. So even if it seems to be a wasted effort that people who have seen your article click and get taken to an identical article at EZA it gives your article more views and may eventually get you listed here for every article in this category.
I don't know about you but when I do research for an article I'm writing I look at this list for more information about what I'm writing about. Sometimes I click through a lot of these "most viewed" articles.

Great method. I have submitted some really good articles but have never considered this before as I still have a great deal to learn.

Thanks for the list as well.

Have many people put this technique to work? Does it work?
This thread has been running for quite a time so I guess people have results to report by now (or not)?!

one thing i have found to get my Eza articles to rank well which is obvious to non newbies is to bookmark it with onlywire and then submit the rss feed and then ping it with pingoat

also i only include one keyword phrase per article and use at just under 2% keyword density

    works like a charm

My first article I want to use the method for, just got approved and will definitely wait the whole week to start the linking process.

God bless all that have contributed positively to this thread.

The only thing I don't like about this is the fact that you are sending visitors from 1 article to an identical one hardly a positive experience for the surfer. I belief that it's important to try and give the surfer a good experience this keeps them happy and also Google. This to me makes sound business sense.

To avoid sending visitors from 1 article to another my own twist on this is to write articles in sets so you write let us say 3 related articles and then mixed the links up for example
article 1 on eza is linked to from article 2 & 3 from the other article sites
    article 2 is linked to 1 & 3
    article 3 to 1& 2

This would avoid annoying visitors and might protect from any future changes at Google who might take steps to stop webmasters linking Identical articles

Just discovered Angela and saw that her GoArticles article has over 2000 backlinks. This is a big part of her strategy - to feed her articles with tons of backlinks.

Thanks for the post. You motivated me to reuse my ezine articles - I've saved them all.
