Looking for free message board software

Hi everyone,
I was hoping someone could tell me where to find a free message board/forum software to install on my site that i can customize.

  • I use and love MyBB (MyBB - Free PHP and MySQL Forum Software) for all my forums and would highly recommend it. It has most of the same features you would get from a paid solution too. The owner is a cool guy and does custom skins for very reasonable prices as well.

    • There are no FREE systems like vBulletin BUT Simple Machines is one of the better alternatives!

    • I like SMF, pretty straightforward install and highly customizable. They even have a .php install page you can upload now which makes the install nearly effortless.

    • I have a few sites running phpBB, but I think it's a bit out-dated and I find MyBB to be far better looking with all the functionality.

  • Use Mybb, it's a FREE PHP & MySQL discussion board.
    It's easy to install, you can have complete control over your forum, easily extend forum functionality and it's easy to use for you and your visitors.
    I use it for an about 3 years now, i recommend it with pleasure.

  • I always opted for SMF 2x where I can customize my files, pages, themes myself & according to my needs so that i can attract more number of users to my web portal.

    SMF offers tonnes of features in it including customizable themes, Wiki portal, Multi Forum, Large Space of DB, & many more.

    These kind of forums can easily be modified with a variety of patches available at SMF portal.

    • I've always used phpBB and was satisfied with it, but now am looking for alternatives.

      Whatever your choice, always make sure your installation is up to date and they are subject to hacking all the time if vulnerabilities exist.

    Which has better moderation capabilities?
