So I'm in the middle of setting up a new domain on my hostgator account and FTPing my Wordpress installation.

I go to my hostgator account to create a MySql file for the wordpress and...

Hostgator has completely changed the CPanel and I don't even recognize it! Really, I tried it two or three times to make sure I was in the right place.

So now I have to learn my way around this new CPanel WHILE I'm working on my site. ARRRRRGGGGHHHHH!

Yeah, it does changed to new cpanel. but i'm pretty sure it doesn't seems to be so much different with the previous cpanel, and nothing much to be learning on

Yep, Adam beat me to it. The cPanel is skinned with the new hostgator theme. The icons are the same, tho, so you should not be that lost IMO.

Cpanel is the least of the problems. The recent upgrade to php5 et al - have seriously made some good old scripts fail. Like Adtrackz... but I found a workaround. Jv manager 1 has failed too. Luckily I have another web server that everything still works upon.

So if you are signing up a new host make you install & sure test out the scripts yourself... and they have a 30 day refund period.

I admit it's a bit different. There is, however, a wizard that you can use as a guide. Did you receive the notification/pop up?

Sorry for your trouble, but realize the only reason they changed it was not to make things more difficult on you, but to make things easier. I use Hostgator and find their customer service terrific. I used to be with Blue Host but like Host gator a lot more despite their cpanel changes. I have been in the new cpanel and do not find it that difficult. If you are having problems, they have a video explanation of the mew cpanel.

Why aren't you using Fantastico to install Wordpress? It's like a one minute job with Fantastico install instead of creating a MYSQL database and FTPing Wordpress files.

Wow I tried uploading 3 files (2 replace and 1 new). They'r ein cpanel but not on my domain and I twice used the live chat and got 2 really rude agents. That's never happened with me at Hostgator before. Usually extremely 5 star service.

    How disappointing.

Nato is right. Nothing is easier than using fantastico to install software. You can have the Wordpress installed in two minutes. There is a simple video showing how to use the Fantastico. There are quite a few software packages listed there also.

I know how to use Fantastico, thank you.

I have Wordpress and the plug-ins I want and the themes all in a folder on my laptop. I simply load it all at once instead of using Fantastico and having to go back and FTP my plug-ins and themes. Saves me a step.

p.s. Cadillac, is that an affiliate link in your sig?

Your method is also the same method we practice at my company. Saves at least 30 minutes to 1 hour in installation time when integrating the plugins, components, and speciality software.

    Stephen,

Recently one of my hosts changed to this new cpanel also. It's called Cpanel Accelerated or something like that. Not only is it more difficult to navigate and use than the old one, but, for some reason my old computer does not work with it well, either. It doesn't matter which "skin" or theme you use, you still have the new stuff to contend with.

What gave me the most trouble is the file manager, and I found out that if you use the one called "Legacy File Manager" instead of the regular file manager, what you get is closer to the old cpanel, and it is much easier to work with.

Also, as far as your files being there, but not showing up on your website, I have been having this same problem since the new cpanel was installed. For some reason, if I completely delete out all the files of a website, and put in new ones, because I am totally changing it, the files are there, but my website gets a "page cannot be displayed" message. Fast forward to the next day, and, low and behold, the site is there when you put it in your browser. This has happened twice in the past couple of weeks on the same site. I was getting ready to email support about it. It's very frustrating, and I don't understand how the files can be there in cpanel but not show up on the Net. It is not a case of new nameservers or new domain or anything like that.

So if you wait a certain number of hours or something, your site shows back up without you doing anything.

If you find out a solution for this part, let us know.

But try using that Legacy File Manager. It does seem to work easier.

HG was slower than some hosts to upgrade to php5 - I had issues with some sites but HG solvede it quickly for me after an email. Needed to revise .htaccess file.

On my reseller accounts the cpanels are the same as usual - no change.

Tiff - I advise against using HG's chat function. It is the lowest level support they have and you'll get much results with an email defining the problem or a phone call.

    Hi,

JVManager 1 or any other script for that matter that you are having problems with, simply needs to have the .htaccess file changed to run the older version of PHP - I know they have a Knowledge Base article on how to do this somewhere.

The new cPanel is not so bad - I must admit I freaked out when I first saw it on one of my other hosting accounts and immediately changed it back to the previous version but slowly I am getting used to the change and find that it is more secure and less prone to hacking attempts.

Well after tears and a few curse words flew out of my mouth, I called on my friend Craig Desorcy at Make Money Online (the name of the domain says it all - we help newbies - Tiff friendly) and within 5 minutes he had calmed me down and taught me how to upload around cpanel using ftp instead.

All it took was a great Internet Marketing whisperer. lol

Re: hostgator live chat - I've always had perfect service from them. I don't know what the 2 guys' problems were last night. Anyhoo...all's right in the world. Thanks Craig! lol

The best way around Host Gator is go to the bottom of their page and click on sitemap. The link to the tutorials is in Support Category. They have a full set of videos for each of the three cpanel skins. x, x3, Host Gator x3.

If you want a different style skin you can do it in cPanel in the Preferences Section. They have 15 variations there. Click on - Change Style. Yes this is cPanel 11

No body likes changes! But this change at Hostgator cPanel is nothing but a better & newer way of doing things, (we all) people usually complain of changes because we are used to the older already mastered version of cPanel, but actually is not complicated, confusing at the first couple minutes but easy after all and more options on themes, easy to check files, here are my 5 cents worth comment!!!!!!!

The Cpanel isn't what bothers me about hostgator, it's their billing. I closed my reseller account with them and was trying to get my money back from it and fighting with them for weeks. So, what did they do? They billed me the next month for it too! I gave up...I thought, if they need to rip people off to make it then maybe they needed the money worse than me.
