Press Releases For The First Timer

Hi

I have never written a press release, never used a press release service and have no experiences with press releases. Where do experienced warriors recommend i and others start?

Thanks

    Hi andrei

I just posted something in my thread now and I saw your post. Yes, I teach people how to do a press release rightly. This one that I do has to be submitted to a paid service. It costs about $20. That got me to Google #1 SEO optimized.

    Hi Andrei,

The best thing you can do is just go to prweb.com - and read their instructions.

They give you a template and there's tons of advice there - plus they're a good place to do your press releases and they have a free option.

Just remember that a press release is not a sales page, so try to make it relevant and interesting enough for people to want to know more and visit your site.

PR is very simple and you should have no problem if you just go to PRweb and read what they say.

      Hi Andy,
Would you suggest using prweb's advanced or premium offers if affordable?
In my regards a new site that is supposed to go controversially viral if the research and 1 year of planning is correct.
I've only used their basic package but in this case something more should be used if it will get the exposure that prweb says you'll get.

      Thanks,
      Ken

I usually use the $380 option - but I've used all of them over the years and it really depends on your budget and how heavily you're focusing on PRs.

If it's a one-off then for that same money you might be better off getting a video created and distributed, so I believe it depends on how newsworthy your message is.

      That's good advice!

PRweb.com is the Google of press releases. Their info and templates should get you started.

For submitting your press release though I HIGHLY recommend SEO Press Release Distribution | Submit Online Press Releases (not affiliated)

Their $50 option gets you a whole lot more than just press release distribution - you'll end up getting links from a multitude of different media spots like slideshare, docstoc, plus press release directories.

It's a hidden Gem for sure.

      Take Care,
      Dustin

It depends on what kind of press release you want (online or offline) and what you want to achieve with that press release.

These days most online press releases are written to get traffic so it's a bit like writing a keyword optimized article in news style with a clever call to action to get the reader to go to your site.

Offline press releases are an entirely different proposition.

To be good at these you need to supply a story the media can't resist, keep it short and give incomplete information so the media outlet is forced to call you to get the full story.

        Kindest regards,

    Hi Andrei,

The following link goes to a former journalist who now writes for internet marketers.

She knows what gets picked up the best...where the best 3 free sites are which last the longest in the search engines...this is important because all the other free press release distribution services don't stay in the search engines as long.

Examples of how to write one are there too on her blog.

    All the best,
    Ewen

Keep the tone of your press release all business. Make sure the information is newsworthy and the first 10 words are effective. The first paragraph answers the vital information: where, when, why, what and who.

Provide contact information like individual to contact, address, phone, fax, email, Web site address.

Here are some sites you can submit it to:

Free Press Release Distribution | I-Newswire.com
PRWindow - Press Release Window - press release distribution and free press release submission
BigNews.biz distributes news and press release

Wow, thanks for all the help guys

Already checking out some of the info.

When you guys say that Google eats up PR's like candy, i've heard this before, but what actually gets to the top? It surely couldnt be the website being promoted could it? It must be the news article right?

        It's 2 main facts:

        # 1: Online press releases have highly targeted content and google likes content.

        # 2: Many press release sites have very good google page ranks...their sites that have a lot of traffic, backlinks etc etc and when you submit a press release it starts on the highest rankings pages of that site (then slips down over time).

So when you first make that online press release you can get some great rankings.

If it's optimized for a long tail keyword phrase without too much competition that press release may stay with a high google ranking for a long time.

        Kindest regards,
        Andrew Cavanagh

I'm new to this whole PR thing, too. I've heard of press releases but that's about it. Many products don't have PRs, so could a PR still be done on them?
