WoooHooo My First Site is LIVE!

Hey Warriors,

Thanks to the advice on this forum I finally took some action!!! I posted my first attempt to internet marketing to the internet and it is now LIVE. I was amazed when I woke up this morning and saw the CB product I was promoting already has 26 visitors from my blog...no sales though....

I was wondering if some of the seasoned pro's here would mind taking a look at my blog and give me your opinions on lay-out and content. I am tough I can handle some constructive criticisms as well...Please let me know what you think I can do to improve it!

Keep in mind Its my first attempt...so it is a work in progress

Good job in taking action. What I read of the content looks good. I would add a pic to at least some of the posts to break up the text some, plus dog lovers love adorable dog pics.

Hey thanks for the comments ....I am in the process of trying to add some pictures...

I keep having a problem with the pic ...was trying to put a picture of lassie for example in the first post at the top left...then have my headline display to the right of it ...

Being new to WP I just cant get it to look right ...sometimes half of the heading is to the right ...and some of it is under it ...or its all under it ...or half is above and half to the right....Cant seem to figure out how to get it to do what I want it to do...

      Thanks

Let's say you want a medium sized pic in the post. Under any headline you might have in the 1st paragraph, put this

        <img src="imagefile.jpg" align=left hspace=6>

The left alignment will put it on the left side of the paragraph and the hspace will give a nice 6 pixel border around the image and the paragraph should wrap nicely around the whole pic.

Congrats! I think the story you have on the top homepage is great, good way to presell the product.

26 visitors already! That's pretty good - if you just put your blog up where are you getting the traffic from?

    Hey There;

First of all congrats on taking action. One of the big problems, in the IM world, is the amount of people who want to get started, and can't take action. I admit, that I am the same, at not taking action on some things.

Now, I had some thoughts on your site, and how you could improve it. One secret, that I'm going to tell you is that I find conversions with anything INCREASE a ton, when you have a design that is compelling enough to keep visitors on your site.

The first thing I see when I get to your site is your header, what bugs me is a have white text on a blue background, then a picture of a dog on a white background. It would look so much nicer, if you had a logo, that fit in with the dog picture to make it flow.

I have NO IDEA how people are finding it ..I have done nothing as far as article submission or anything...and im still trying to get google analytics to work.
LOL! Well I'm thinking if you got 26 visitors to the product that probably means you have a lot more to your blog. If you have cpanel, you could check your stats from there just to see what keywords you are being found for.

    Hi Helicopterplt,
As mentioned in a previous post, the header needs some improvement maybe some blending of clours and images in photoshop. Think about adding some google adsense to the site as well for extra revenue.

Good though. It's a great niche market.

    All the best,
    Mark

    Here's my contribution...

You should create a category for your posts and put them in it. Right now your showing them all as "uncagetorized".

yeah, that Pretty Link rocks. When you start doing some off page stuff with links back to your site, send them to your pretty link and not directly to the product. This'll give you some control over your links that come in. Some day you may want to promote your own product and this strategy will allow you to easily reroute those incoming links to your product instead of someone elses when the time comes.

      Hey,

I have some more things to share with you.

      1. I would create a page with the title of a keyword you are targeting. This is good for SEO, and your website looks better with more pages.

      2. Install the "Easy Privacy" plugin, which creates a privacy policy page for you. People love to see this...

      3. Install the "XML Google Sitemap" plugin. Google will love you...

      4. Create an "About Me" Page, and include a picture. People love to see a person behind the website.

      5. Create a YouTube channel, and create videos on a weekly basis. You might take this one for granted, but let me tell you that 1 video on one of my blog sends more traffic than Google...

      Hopefully these help you out!

      -Christian

PS: People are very generous on this forum when they see someone actually taking action, and in a fair way. People who go around begging don't get the same treatment, and I applaud you for doing things the right way.

Hi there, I am a newbie when it comes to IM, but I think i spot a potential trend that may scare off potential buyers:

I noticed that all of your blog entries is dated 31st July. I think u need to backdate them, or else, people are gonna think u plucked the entries off some random blog.

    Just my 2 cents worth

    Some comments/thoughts:
    - maybe add newsletter page, so when asking people to "join my newsletter"
    - replace rss box with newsletter box and have that "get free report" thing there
    - more pics would be nice. somehow when it's about dog training, I'd like to see more pics inside posts

you can remove the date by editing index/single/comments (there's "the_date" or something similar inside php files) php files.

I think easiest way to add the opt-in box is in wordpress is adding a Text widget (not sure if your blog template has them in use already) and simply copy & pasting the code from your newsletter provider.

I wanted to say that I really like the way that you write, it is very engaging and not "salesy". I also wanted to recommend that you have an opt in box in a prominent place. Once you set it up with your autoresponder provider you will get a code that you can add in your widgets section for your sidebar. You might also then consider putting below each post if you want to focus on building a list. And there are so many things you can sell in this niche that it seems like a great idea.

Keep up the good work - that is exciting that you are generating traffic before even trying!

Hey, thanks for your complements on my writing style. I am somewhat of a communication enthusiast ..I am a certified master practitioner in NLP and have been designing and teaching classes on effective communication for about 10 years....However I wasn't really sure how my style would translate into writing...Its great to hear that you liked it..Thanks for letting me know ...

Yes it is amazing that I have traffic already....i was so surprised to see that people were visiting my affiliate site already ...just waiting for google analytics to recognize me so I can figure out where they are coming from ..

I dont have an autoresponder service yet gonna have to wait till a lil money comes in to add that ...and it is a priority...in the mean time ill have to find an alternate way to make an opt-in box and collect emails.

Thanks for taking the time to review my site ....Chad

By the way my next site is going to be all about persuasion ...currently writing my first ebook...about half way 6 chapters down and half to go ...

Ditto. Because it is such a readable blog, you might be able to get some readers (and backlinks) from blogcatalog and some other blog networks. A facebook page could send some loyal visitors too.

Yeh, wordpress is great. It has almost everything you can think of

          One more point:
          - you took away data but now there's also "|" line... please get rid of that

          Also:
          - you now have "uncategorized" posts. You can change the category in wordpress (posts > categories and then edit "uncategorized") use something like "Simple Dog Training" (with slug: "simpledogtraining")
          - "about me" would be like to see a pic near it... which might prove to be difficult also age and location info would give more personality (and saying "how long Jessie has got dogs" etc.)

Not sure if this was mentioned, but I would think of changing the color of H1 titles to something else

Hi man, congrats on taking the action, so many people out there who decides to start but couldn't make it. Well you have done a super job as a beginner.

As other friends suggested, you should put some small doggy images here and there to accompany your post. So people won't get bored by reading long pages.

I also see you have masked your aff links with TinyURL, I suggest you to get a plugin called: PrettyLinks, it will help you create your very own masked URL's under your domain such as: simple-dog-training.com/dog-training

You are doing it great, no one can say that this is your first site. To your success!

    1. image posting: when you upload images via wordpress (you gotta create "uploads/" folder and set permissions 755 or 777), it gives you option to "align the image to left" for example.

if you want to do it manually, type something like (in html editor, not in visual editor):
    <img src="yourpicurl.png" align="left" hspace="10" vspace="10">
    should do the trick.

    Good theme and domain too.

    Few suggestions:
    1) Change default category name and slug
    2) If you don't have any blogroll links, remove that widget from Appearence menu
    3) Move search widget on the top, after About me

If you plan on using the Warrior Forum and posting a lot, you should put your link in the signature with anchor text, that will give you great off page SEO. Also, try to submit your site to Google, Yahoo, Bing, etc. I didn't see you on the top 5 pages for simple dog training, so I'm guessing you haven't submitted yet. I think your priority should be getting your site to the top 3 spots on Google, then you can start adding more keywords. You have a great start, and this can be a great site.

I believe one visitor can visit on several pages... thus generating 1 visit and 7 pageviews (or whatever).

You'll find plenty of information about unique visits / visitors / pageviews at analytics site. they have pretty good docs there i believe.

I just checked out your site and I can't find what your selling without clicking your link! If I were you I would use the panel on the right for your product you're promoting. You should be able to get a banner or some graphics from your affiliate. That way your visitor will find what they are looking for straight from your home page.

I would also include an opt-in for a free guide or a newsletter (just send copies of your posts). Once again you might be able to get that stuff from your affiliate. You need to capture emails addresses if you want to grow your business.

People love graphics and videos so I would at least (minimum) add more graphics to your posts and side panel.

If you do just those couple of things I guarantee you'll get your first sale soon.

    Good Luck.

First off, when it comes to blogs, it's always BEST to put the links to your product in a blog post. Banner ads don't work real well, especially in that niche market.

Second, Opt-in forms don't work the best on blogs either (don't ask me why, people just don't bite.) I mean, it's ok to do, and you might get a few opt-ins, but, it's best to have a separate squeeze page and link your squeeze page to your blog through keywords in your posts.

Hey, Thanks for reviewing my site ....I am working on getting an opt in form up and running on there...i was going to put it where that giant rss feed pic is ...and advertise some free ebook on training or something with sign up ...

Also I have added a few more images ...I want to add some video as well but not sure what the rules are about posting other peoples videos ..as I have none of my own...

      Thanks for the advice
      Chad

That is a very well written website. We have been hosting websites for over 9 years so trust me when I say; thats a good one!

As your blog grows, it will automatically attract more visitors which will eventually lead to more sales. I wish you the best of luck!

Congrats on taking action! I understand the "info overload" situation you had, I was in the same place at one point; you try to learn everything at once & you end up delaying forever or just not doing anything at all. I think most ppl who get into I.M get to that point & just end up throwing up their hands at it all. I'm a perfectionist myself (which is sort of a curse bcuz it holds me back alot of the time) so you just have to get in their regardless of whether everything you want to do is going to happen right away or not...

I have a couple of suggestions for your site tho...

    1. If you're using Google Chrome, you can download this browser tool called SEO Quake, very awesome & helpful tool, gives you everything from PR to keyword density & link info. I think its compatible with Firefox but I haven't checked up on that yet...

    2. Also, you can use Alexa.com to check traffic stats/rankings & see the demographics of ppl who visit your site & what keywords they've come to your site off of searching, as well as a bunch of other indepth tools. I'm a total Alexa addict myself because its so helpful & FREE!

Obviously keyword density is everything, as well as the RIGHT keywords; you can't sell a dog training product when you're talking about cat juggling (just an example, lol :-p )

In regards to Alexa, I'd suggest you use them sporadically at the moment just to check up on things because you don't seem to have enough info in the search engines as of now to be ranked yet on their site, but keep it in mind once you start getting more traffic...

    Good luck!

I have seen your blog. It look good. It is an average blog. It is not so bad and not so good. You have placed good content there which is nice although but overall look of the blog is not so attractive. Please work hard more unless you do not get an sales. You can grow slowly and wait for the moment.

Site looks really good, not seeing those where you building a list or offering anything where you make money those.

Might want to put that high up on your list of things to do.

    Good Job mate! Yea Buddy...

I think every website should have a "Contact Us" as well as a "Terms and Conditions"

The site looks good though, get an opt-in in there and you'll be sweet...
