When do you sign up before you've read all the way to the end of the offer?

What is the best way to turn a reader into a subscriber?

I asked another question in this forum, it was What makes a Good Quality Article into a Good Quality Article? One answer that shone through was the idea that it has to turn readers into subscribers.

How is that done in the middle of the article and not just at the end?

We know that at the end the resource box has to be compelling, and we can also use a lead in to the resource box with the last paragraph, but how do we get your vote as a subscriber before you have read all the way to the end?

    Why does it need to be in the middle of the article?

    If it's good, I'll want to read on to the end. And then maybe I'll sign up--or check out another article.

    If, while reading the article, I feel compelled to do something else, it may not be likely to be to sign up for your list. It'd likely be to leave because the article wasn't that good.

    However, if I am reading an article and, in the middle of it, I do feel compelled to sign up for your list, it is highly probable that it is not the first article I've read on your site. It may be the second or third or x article I've read. And I may want to sign up (and read the rest of the article later) so I get notified of new content or so I don't forget your site.

      Like Dan said, if I feel the urge to do something else before I finish your article - especially if it's the typical 400-500 words - it isn't going to be signing up for your list.

      If you are using Wordpress, you could test using the "What would Seth Godin do?" plugin to put an opt-in box at the beginning and end of each article, and set it for around three exposures. After the set number is reached, the box is no longer shown.

      If you can't hook them by the time they read three of your articles, I'd say you need to work on your articles...

    sadly, there are always those who never read
    your articles all the way 'till the very end.

    Placing a resource box in the middle of your article,
    won't do you any good and I speculate it will even
    make things worth.

    Instead what you need to working on is on finding the
    emotional hot buttons and push them throughout the whole
    article, than you will have a higher chance of getting the prospect
    to read the whole thing and click on the links.

    What I am asking is how do you make an article so good that a person decides that no matter what the end is like, the beginning is so good that I want to be a part of what is going on.

      My answer to the question in the topic's title is :

      If it's a free product, or it's an opt-in to receive emails without any obligation, and I can see at a glance that it could fill a need for me, I go for it without too much reading. But I'm at the beginning of building my IM business, so I expect that will change to avoid too much waste of my time.
