Hey Warriors...
Just wondering what you think is the best place to host your website.

I currently use ThirdSphere :: Web hosting for small business success! and they cost US$24 a month.

Any recommendations for any other hosting services?

I read the ThirdSphere hosting features.

Sorry to tell you buddy it is WAYYYYYY expensive.

I know a reliable hosting service that costs 1/3 of the price with 10 times more features.

If it is the priceless support you get in ThirdSphere that i can understand.

If you wish to know more on good hosting you can PM me.

The answer really depends on your current and previous hosting experiences. I use 1and1 and have had no problems so far and it only costs me $4.99 a month. Paid every 6 months. Other's will hate 1and1 but they have been good to me.

But everyone's answer will be different it's a personal experience type of answer..if you know what i mean.

I compared about 10 different hosts before I chose the one I did. For $5.00 a month, it had features that other hosts at around $20.00 monthly didn't offer. Just unlimited bandwidth and diskspace itself beats the compatition, PM me and I'll direct you to them.

PS: I forgot to mention free domain registration when you sign up

Personally, if you're serious about having a decent host, watch out for one thing...

Offers of UNLIMITED bandwidth and a GAZILLION gigabites of diskspace for $5/month.

    What a crock!

But, say you fall for the lie. Months later after heaps of hard work, trying to get noticed, you get featured in a massive website, or on the Digg fp, and moments later...

    BAM!

Host: "Sorry sir, but we were alerted that your site was using more than 10% of the CPU, so we had to shut it down"

You: "But, but, you said UNLIMITED bandwidth"

Host: "Check the small print. Unlimited to within reasonable use, sir."

Your opportunity to rock to fame lost, because you bought into the overselling lie!

Don't do it, unless it's for a hobby site which isn't important to you.

      A Question about hostgator....

I heard of hostGator, and wanted to know...

If i wanted 10 completely different domains hosted separately on hostgator, will they charge me monthly for 10 domains?
(because i heard unlimited hosting for unlimited domains?- under one monthly fee? )

or do you have to pay for the 10 domains x each monthly fee with hostgator?

I suggest some VPS (Virtual Private Server) hosting for those who have some technical skills. Of if you get a fully managed VPS, you do not even have to have those technical skills.

Much much much better than shared/reseller hosting and the price difference is virtually non-existant sometimes.

Now if you want to get a great deal on some webhosting - any kind of it, I suggest you try the webhostingtalk.com forum as there are promo offers being posted all the time. And you will find a lot of reviews there too. That's where I found webhosts for my 4 dedicated servers after all

And yes, I do not subscribe to the "unlimited anything" thingy. It's pure false marketing. Try uploading hundreds of gigabytes of your video archive and you will see how quickly you will get the "we cannot host your web" message from the webhost.

But it's more likely their understanding of "unlimited space" does not go beyond a few gigabytes. On the other hand, after so many unscrupulous webhosts began offering the unlimited resources, the good ones joined the group just to stay competitive.

Still, it's a nonsense, it's a big fat lie. I have yet to see an inftalable hard drive. In the case of bandwidth you can get sort of "unlimited" - they will simply limit the max. speed. In the VPS/dedicated server world this is normally called "unmetered" and that's what it is. But the unlimited space - that is a total crap. Not possible on this planet...

    Tomas

P.S. For the record, I own a freehosting service. I am not attempting to advertise it in any way, I get no income from it.

Since they moved their datacenter to Texas my sites are loading crazy ridiculously fast. Sales are even up as a result. And they have something like 4 fiber lines coming in now so no worries about downtime anymore (their previous data center in Canada was crap).

Yeah I've heard they had some problems for a couple of months last year, but since they moved it's all smooth. Although in the past couple of days they were working on something again. Didn't affect my websites, but just couldn't get into web host manager.

    GoDaddy
$4.99 Month 10 GB Space 300 GB Transfer
$6.99 Month 150 GB Space 1,500 GB Transfer
    $14.99 Unlimited

    BlueHost
    $6.95 Month Unlimited

I have used both. Never had any problems.

Just keep mind 'Unlimited' is not really unlimited. You will be ok as long as you don't setup some kind of file sharing system or re-sell hosting.

Also the $4.99 plan will not allow you to host additional domains.

If I was going to setup something new I would go with BlueHost.

I can't post links otherwise I would include some good 3rd party reviews.

rondo lists a link to a coupon above.

Or if you're on Twitter you can follow @sitepointdotcom and they will DM you a link to a free CSS ebook The Art & Science of CSS 227 pages. A few pages in is a Host Gator deal and coupon for the Baby plan for 1 cent the first month. But in their header image the have a 20% off your order. I you're going to pay monthly the 1 cent coupon is good but if you going to pay for the 2 or 3 year option the 20% off coupon is the best deal.

    innocent07 -

Yes about multiple domains. You can do it with Host Gators' Shared Baby Plan and Business.

You first get your hosting with one domain and set up the DNS at you domain registrar for that main domain. Then when it's propagated and you can access it by it's domain name. Not the IP access. Add you other domains. To add additional domains to that account you first go to the domain registrar you have your domains with and change there DNS to the same ones you used for your main domain. Then they suggest you wait about a day til the new DNS settings have spread across the net. It's actually faster than that.

You then go to the cPanel of your main domain and find Addon Domains. There's a video on that page to watch how to do it. Or on any Host Gator page go to the bottom and click on sitemap. In the Support category is Web Hosting Tutorials and this is one for addon domains. It creates a folder for the domain name you enter. You will have a separate ftp address for it. It's looks like a sub domain folder but it's named differently and to the rest of the world it looks and works like a regular single stand alone domain. The fact that it's an addon domain means nothing in function and visitor won't know it. They will just see www yourdomain com or net or org or info etc..

I had a positive experience with "A Small Orange" (Can't post the URL since I don't have enough posts... Just Google it!).

Their $5 /month "small" plan is pretty generous and will easily host a WordPress powered microsite. Their customer service is awesome!

I'm currently on a HostGator reseller plan. It's half the cost A Small Orange's VPS plan. After a point I launched so many sites that all those little $5 charges started adding up. With the reseller plan I can launch as many sites as I like for $25 /mo.

So far I haven't had any major issues, but I miss the responsiveness and small biz touch that A Small Orange had. I can't say enough positive things about them. (I'm not an affiliate or associated with them, BTW)

    Beaumont, I recommend

    http://1and1.com (1-877-Go1and1)

1and1 has by far and large been a dream come true for me.

They regularly have specials where they give away free domain names,

months of dedicated servers and business hosting,

Provide you with All 24 hours a day, All 7 days a week technical support

by toll free phone number, let you add on unlimited domain names instead of having to buy them separately,

have free apps for building forums, blogs, on site chat, other apps,

marketing resources, free adwords and ppc vouchers,

easy ftp and too much to list here without visiting their site

    to get the full scoop.

Nearly 100% uptime which is the #1 consideration for hosting because

you do Not want to risk having your site go down during

    a big launch.

I've registered 70 domains with them in the last 2 years

and have over 100 sites hosted with them

and have never had a single problem with them.

One time someone tried to hack one of my membership sites,

and they had the attack attempt report traced and sent

    to me within minutes.

They are the world's #1 largest for a reason as those types of ranks

and distinctions don't often happen by accident.

When it comes to choosing hosting and domain registrations,

I can only tell you what has worked best for me

and Beaumont, I hope this helps you too.
