My Amazon Battleplans for 4 Figures a Day This Coming Holiday Season. WHat is Yours

by Neil V

I have just developed a strategy and battleplan to promote amazon products for this coming holiday season.

This plan is based of data I collected last year and my monthly commission checks with amazon.

My overall goals - Is to earn at least $800 to a $1000 a day for months of Oct to December 2010. From experience I will tell you that sales slows down for me after around December 18th, based on last years data.
But other than that, I am fired up and have a detailed battle plan in place

Here is what I am doing right now
1. I have tested over hundreds of products that I know that will sell during the holiday season. I used data from last year and am using hub pages to quickly see if there is a demand for any new products
2. I have list of over 150 wordpress blogs that I will finish by the end of August. Each blog contains products that have a great chance of making money
3. Each blog is silo structured and optimized for three keywords of between 4000- 7000 searches a month
4. For each blog I will have a least 8-10 pages of unique content and a pre-sell page to amazon. I am using the Seth Godin Plugin and it is super ninja for selling the clicks.
5. At the end of august here is my traffic plan:
a. Build at least 40 -50 links for each blog
b. Convert posts into video and distribute video
c. Goal here is to create and auto submit video with tube mogul so that links will automatically be spread out and point back over time to the blogs on a consistent basis
6. For the blogs that are making sales I plan to spend money on banner ads only to ramp up traffic. Right now I do not use Google. I pay maximum between 2c-3c a click only and nothing more on a specific network. Also, I am only sending traffic to websites that only make sales.

That is in a nutshell my traffic plan. It is a lot of work but I have outsourced staff whom I pay $300 a month per person who pretty much take care of the heavy lifting

This goal for me is quite easy and do-able as I done this last year

Now lets say you have little to no experience and want to do this and get started. Here is what I suggest you do

1. Focus on your mindset. Dig deep and get to why you want to do it and what you are willing to give up to do it. It will take time and effort so get your mind ready upfront. And when you start you will find reasons why you cannot do it. Make sure you have the right mindset and plan upfront
2. Go to amazon bestsellers list. These are proven winners. Select the top 10 products from different categories
3. Build hub pages immediately. With focused and dedicated work you can easily build 50-100 hub pages easily. Outsource if you need to
4. Promote them with a few links. See which are selling
5. Next start to build your blogs. Depending on your income goals you do not need 150 blogs. You may only need 20-30 product blogs to get to your goals
6. Never give up. Get cracking, work hard and smart for one month. Sacrifice a little bit of your time and you will be all set in to cash up on this holiday season
From experience I recommend you start now. Get your sites ranking before the mainstream holidays kick in and you will make money

And remember you do not need to build 150 websites. That is my goal for the holidays. What is your battleplan?

Please feel free to leave your comments below and I will help you as much as I can

Get ready for an awesome holiday sales season.

    Hi Neil,

Do you concentrate your bog on one product and how do you structure the content and what sort of thing do you write about to pad the site out?

Depending on the price point i may concentrate on one product. so for example if tvs i may do one samsung tv that is selling well

If it is vacuum cleaners with a cheaper price point i may include a few different types of vaccum cleaners. i prefer to focus on themes and then individual products

        Hey Neil,

I have a few questions if you don't mind ansering them. I'm quite new to this and amazon is something I am interested in.

I have two sites running at the minute and I am converting about 5% of my vistors into sales on amazon, the problem that I am having (and it is so obvious now that I have done it) is that the sales are all for books at £3-5 each. The few pounds that I have made each month puts a smile on my face but I would much prefer this value to have a few zeros on the end.

I have done quite a lot of research on how to determine good products to promote but I am wondering how you go about choosing the domain name.

I have a few ideas but I am quite wary of putting something like sony in the domain name.

Do you use long tail keyword domain names specific to the product or do you create a more generic domain name and just have pages or subdomains with the product keywords in it?

My process at the minute for trying to work out what to promote is to search bestsellers, pick a product, use google keywords and try all the search queries I can think of, see which comes out with most number of searches and then check google for results. Most times I find amazon to be number 1 and then price comparison sites to fill up the next 6 slots.

Is it wise(or even possible) to try and beat the likes of amazon and pricerunner?

Great questions. first it is usually quite easy to beat amazon for long tail keywords even if they are on first page. so do not shy away if you see amazon sites

          As for picking a domain
          1. Find product
          2. insert this in google search box
          3. click on wonder wheel
          4. make a note of all the related searches that appear for the product name
          4. go search for .com or .org and maybe .net version. stay away from .info

          5. Do not ever use the brand name. you can use model numbers or use the word reviews or discount at the end of the keyword not at the beginning

I hope this helps. If you want to go ahead and go through this exercise. post your results and i will help demonstrate this. it may make more sense

            Hi Neil,

I think you might regret that offer because I am going to take you up on it. I am in the UK so I will be going with a amazon.co.uk product if that's ok.

Just before I start with my example, is .info really that bad? With .co.uk the domain name is going to be £7 where as I can get the same .info for £0.50, that would mean I could churn out a lot more websites at the beginning without risking a lot of money. The websites I have done so far I have bought .co.uk and .com for the url but with these sorts of sites that would basically be temporary until the product is no longer popular I thought .info would be perfect.

Ok, I have picked a product to use as an example, just wanted to pick something that no-one would be interested in:

so Topps Match Attax England Tin 2010 is in the bestseller list of amazon uk.

google keyword tool is saying 1900 local searches for the best long tail keyword which is "Topps Match Attax England Tin 2010"

topps match attax england tin 2010 - Google Search

I have never even heard of the make topps so I'm just going to pretend that they have the same sort of clout as Apple.

Amazon is first, topps 2nd, some price comparison sites following on from that.

So what I would do would be:

            register www.topps-match-attax-england-2010.info

put together a wordpress site with a few pages of info

copy all the information off amazon for this product and have it on a review page

then hopefully get a few backlinks pointing to this

Is this totally wrong? I understand that I can't use the company name in the domain, so how do I get around this?

            can I have www.topps-match-attax-england-2010-review.info?

this probably isn't the best example as some of the results on the first page of google aren't the best but amazon is still top, would it be easy to knock them off by just creating one page targeted at this long tail keyword?

I was hoping to pick 10 products now that I think are going to sell at christmas and make that my mission for the next month or so, I just want to get my feet wet. I think I have made quite a bit of progress over the last number of weeks and I'm hoping that I can make a bit of money by December.

I meant to put this in earlier. I have read that amazon are quite stict about using kindle in any domain that is sending affiliate links, yet there are quite a few have popped up already. Are these people going to get their account suspended by Amazon or how does this work?

              Hi there,

My advice is you might want to rethink going with Amazon UK. I'm not sure if it is still the case but last time this came up it was discovered there was a commission cap that really didn't make it worth your time.

You can get an Amazon associates account for the US site where the commission is significantly better.

Double check if the UK limit is still in place. Plus with the US site you have a much larger population who are likely to be ordering from it.

              Good luck

You can get a plug in called Amazon Affiliate Link Localizer and make sales in several countries including the US and UK.

That is a very detailed and helpful plan you have there Neil. I myself had a website that showcased Amazon products with my affiliate link but it failed miserably. That was back when I was 16. Although I'm only 18 now, I have learnt alot from the Warrior Forum and will put some of your plan to action in the coming weeks.

Just installed it on two of my blogs. Basically you can have a message appear for new visitors and a different one for return visitors. On my amazon blog i have a message on the top of each post which says. "Don't forget to visit my store" and have an anchor text link sayng best amazon deals which sends them to the store on my site.

Paul, do a quick search online and you will find it. This is a great tool for a wordpress site

When you build a whole lot of pages on your site, some are product related and some are information pages. Your goal is to make sure you have some direct call to action message on every single page so you sell the click to amazon

Seth godin plugin is like having a banner on the top of every page with a sales message and link to product you want to sell. You create one message and this plugin pushes it out for you

The message could be text or banners

Now the main reason why i like this is that if you use it the right way it prevents your site from being classified as a bridge page and google slapping down your site because of all your links pointing to amazon

I hope this is not too technical and makes sense

As Neil puts it, the Seth Godin plugin could be a text or banner. When you are setting up the site and waiting for it to be indexed, I would advise creating a banner with words in it instead.

From my experience, it you used text, most of your posts will be initially indexed with the same message you put into the plugin. This is because the plugin displays the text above your post contents. And when Goggle bots visit your pages, these text are captured into the search results.

Using a banner will prevent this from happening and when your pages are fully indexed, you can switch to text messages.

You have a lot of questions going on in here. So let me see if i can break it down for you

    1. I would not promote a .info domain. They are really good if you want to rank high on bing but not google. I will not go into technical detail but that has been from my tests

    2. I would never buy a new domain when i first want to promote a product. Why waste money. First you need to prove to yourself that this sells first and that you can sell it

go to hub pages. open an account, create a hub, use the product description as title of your post, write a post, insert your affiliate link, promote it and see if anyone is actually buying from you

If they are, then we now buy a domain

As i mentioned follow the steps i laid out

step 1 - insert the product name in google, select more options, chose wonder wheel and then list out the first set of results from the wonder wheel

step 2- tell me what name you would select and why

step 3 post that information here.

if you are willing to do this then i am willing to give you guidance and maybe we can do a live experiment together

At this stage, lets not focus on anything else but the domain. Post your results here and we will take the next step

If you are using brand names in your domain whether it is kindle or anything else it is only a matter of time before amazon sends you hate mail to close the domain down or transfer it to them. you cannot build a business like that so stay away from it

I look forward to your response

Forgive my ignorance, when you mentioned wonder wheel earlier on I thought it was some sort of pet name you had for google search results, I think my brain is telling me it's time for bed!

Right, picked a product, one of the top tvs on the bestseller list:
      samsung le32c450

      wonder wheel is saying:

      lg le32c450
      sony le32c450
      nokia le32c450
      o2 le32c450
      sprint le32c450
samsung le32c450 hd ready lcd tv

All the results have a brand name in them so I think I would have to just go for the model number by itself, .com and .co.uk are gone so I would probably go for le32c450.net

Would this be the right process so far?

Okay you rock. That is it. You got it right. Excellent work. What you have just done is set yourself up for success right out of the gate.

        Here are a few suggestions:

        1. I would probably go for le32c450 hd ready lcd tv. com or .org version.

not only does it have the model number but also hd lcd tv in the domain. in this way you get better leverage if you are trying to promote more than one tv on your domain

This domain rich keyword is going to get you high rankings.

        2. as a tip going forward lets assume you could not get the domain you want then all you have to do is drill deeper into each one of the words and go further into the wheel to get a good domain.

Okay step 1 is completed what do you think is the next step?

        Your move

P>S if anyone else like to give input or suggest a next step please do so, lets see how much participation we can get from the group on this.

sorry for the delay, haven't had a chance to get on the computer today.

with this example we are going through there is nothing more specific I can drill down to, no matter what direction I go in google is including brand names.

My next step would be to check google keyword tool again to make sure that my domain name is going to get a decent number of search results.

After that you said that you would test the product by using a hubpage?

I have never used hubpages, I was going to try this before but I read some many negative posts about hubpages that I thought it was a waste of time.

Just as a matter of interest, does google rate subdomains as equal to the main domain. What I mean is if I were to have le32c450.tvreviews.com , would I still be able to compete against le32c450.com ?

Thanks for all this feeback, I am finding this thread very useful

Just as a matter of interest, does google rate subdomains as equal to the main domain. What I mean is if I were to have le32c450.tvreviews.com , would I still be able to compete against le32c450.com ?

Thanks for all this feeback, I am finding this thread very useful

Okay so you have selected your domain name already and what you have chosen sounds good. before you actually buy this start promoting the product with a hub page

Hub pages is a great tool and works really well. have a look around and you will see thousands of affiliates promoting products in hub.

Also, never make decisions based on assumption. you should allocate some of your time testing

No subdomains work but are extremely hard to rank. In my experience they take a lot of work and i would stay away from them

I'm really glad to hear that. I'm preparing mentally to learn strategies exactly for that. I'm going to bed right now, but I will read the info I find here tomorrow.

      Just as with Adsense -

Spend more time planning, building and optimizing quality websites. Then do SEO.

Creating a million tiny sites is not a good long term strategy. It's the same story all over again - think Adsense twelve months ago.

    Hi Neil

Thanks for the info on the Seth Godin plug in. I'd already searched and found it on Amazon - was interested in how you used it.

Someone earlier in the thread was suggesting doing it with Match Attax tin. I'd recommend that you go with something else - as my kids are Match Attax fanatics, and that particular tin is associated with the World Cup Match Attax cards and they won't be on sale as soon as the Premiere League 10/11 Season cards come on stream - which will be anyday now I'd guess.

    Neil,

Good plan except the hubpages testing method. I tried hubpages last year to do some testing and my hubs where taken down due to having too much "commercial content" in them. What this meant was, I had affiliate links in my hub. After modifying my UNIQUE content and even taking out the links, they still took down my stuff. So needless to say, I've never bothered testing out Amazon products with them since, except for building back links to my sites.

Personally I think, if you do your research on Amazon, good keyword research, buy a good domain and build backlinks, MOST of the products on a site should convert if you can get it on page 1 of google. Lets face it, if you did proper keyword research and you see a good amount of searches for a keyword, they are either looking to purchase the product or info on it.

I have been testing on hub pages for a long time now and i works extremely well. Without this, my personal opinion you would be throwing money down the drain.

if you do not want to test then i suggest at least doing some ppc testing to see if the product sells.

The reason why people have a hard time with hub pages is because of a quality issue. if you write quality content with no more than outgoing links you should not have any problems at all. the other trick is knowing how to set up the hub pages

Yes, i did mention that this takes work. No doubt about it. I also have outsourced staff who write well and get these articles out for me.

And i have been doing this for a while so i make some good money from affiliate marketing. So yes all the writing is going to be outsourced

By the way, if you are starting off do not let this scare you off. You can set your own goals and do this yourself

Start with writing single hub pages yourself with 2 a day. When you make sales then try to get the writing done by someone else, barter for services, ask people you know to help you.

If you really want to do this and i know you do, then do whatever it takes to get your stuff done.

Just think of the end rewards

      Tri,

there is no way you need to do all of the to earn great money with Amazon.

People throw up all of those sites but they fail to realize, you can bring in $5 -$10k a month promoting 1 Amazon product with 1 site.

Building all those sites is non productive.

      1-Select One Product from Amazon
      2-Write a in depth review
3-Put about 20 or so posts on the blog(Tips, How To,etc...)
4-Drive traffic to the blog.(Forms, Blog commenting, Artilces, Press Releases, Videso, PDF's, Web2.0)

Do all of the SEO stuff, like backlinks, etc....

Take one week to get your site up. Take the remaining 3 weeks in the month and do nothing but traffic generation.

That is all I do. Folks make making money with Amazon seem like it's a science and it requires lots of heavy lifting. It does not.

If it's being searched for and Amazon is selling it, you can make money from it.

Even if the searcher lands on your site, clicks over to Amazon and does not buy the product you're promoting, they may very well buy lots of other things.

I've had that happen on many occasions.

          Catherine,

it's not so much that I make it sound so easy, most people make it difficult.

Of course I do all the other stuff.....

Bottom line, it's not that hard. It took me 2 years to realize that. We make it hard. Also, when I test, I never test anymore than 5 at a time. Oddly enough, I make money on all of them.

Also, I do things different......my goal is not only to sell the product I am promoting, my goal is to get the searcher to click on my Amazon links because It's a good chance they will buy something other than the product that I am promoting. I've seen it happen over and over and over.

So even if the person does not buy the product I am promoting, they buy something else.

Again, I am not making it "sound easy" you guys make it hard.

Believe it not "success is boring". It's not supposed to be hard. Most people that are wildly successful with anything, find something that works for them than they just keep repeating the same thing over and over and over but they just keep scaling it up.

It takes focus, discipline and sticking to it.

It's a very simple formula. Seriously.

The number 1 reason why people fail with Amazon is-they have their sites set up wrong and they do not work on generating traffic.

I include myself in that group. Once I changed those 2 variables, I started to see results.

Neil has a good system. If you really pay attention, you'll see what he recommends you do is not hard work at all.

That's the beauty of internet marketing, there are many different ways to go about doing it.

I think and Neil probably would agree, Amazon is one of the easiest ways to earn a dollar once you get your your process in place.

          I hope that helps.

Hi Neil, both your battleplan and the suggested battleplan for people starting out sound great and workable. Thanks for that.

I have a few questions with regards to Point #4 from your battleplan.
    4. For each blog I will have a least 8-10 pages of unique content and a pre-sell page to amazon. I am using the Seth Godin Plugin and it is super ninja for selling the clicks.
    8-10 pages of unique content:
What is this content, basically? Articles, News Releases, Product Reviews, or a combination of these?
How many keywords are you targetting on these 8-10 pages? One per page, or 2-or-3 per page? Or, one per entire site?
Are you going for generic product type keywords? Or particular brand/model names of products as your target keywords? [For example: 'magic wand' or 'Warrior X99 magic wand'] (Yea, I just made that up :p)

    Pre-sell page on Amazon:
I didn't really understand this, and would love to know more.

Another question I have for you is: Which theme do you generally use for sites like these? Do you use any other plugins like ReviewAzon or something?

Okay so here is how to do it

The goal with each of these sites is to silo structure the sites well. With a highly optimized domain and the right keyword silo structure your sites will do well.

So i do not just use any keywords. Focus on doing some keyword research, find related keywords to your main "magic wand" keywords. The next step is to write an article for each of the keywords so they are narrow and focused
Finally i would use a silo plugin (wordpress plugin) to make sure you can automate this process and the blog is set up correctly

      Pre- sell page
this is basically the home page of your blog. This is your product review page. You have to presell someone buying the product and clicking through to amazon. You have to persuade them to click. So here is where you will sell the benefits and why they should click through to buy the product.

You are getting into a sensitive discussions about plugins like Reviewzon, etc. Bottom line is that when i am using SEO to promote blogs and make money i do not use any of these plugins that pull data from amazon and populate the blog

I have had over 13 blogs de-indexed from google because of this. Now if you are prepared to write some level of unique content for each of the posts then this works well

My goal is to make money in the long term so for now i stay away from this.

I am following this thread closely; it's really great.

As for hubpages, I have created about 20 hubs over the last several months, and have gotten only one sale in all this time. But my hubs have titles that are not specific to a particular product, but to a type of product, so I guess that's been my problem.

Neil, in post #29 above, you mention that you have to know how to set up the hub correctly. Are you basically talking about keyword density; i.e. having a particular product name in the hub title, first line of text, etc?

        Or are there other factors?

Yes. This is very easy. Make sure it is keyword titled, and make sure you do a good job preselling.

And build a few links back.

Now for the hub pages you already made sales, start working and building a blog because you know you can make sales

          I would recommend the following

          set some goals
set goal for no of hubs, blogs no of links and products you want to promote. Whether it is one or 10 and then go for it. It is amazing what happens and the results you get just be doing this one activity

          Good work on taking action.

This is a very solid battle plan. Silo Plugin is awesome and another suggestion I would make that you could add is using a theme like Socrates. It's extremely versatile and makes creating your pre-sell page a lot easier.

On the issue of hub pages, I've found that squidoo works just as well if not better.

I think that focusing on just a TV model (as in the example before, valid to any product) maybe is an error.

What if you focus all your efforts on a minisite for Samsung LED TV AABB, because is a top selling TV this months...then write content, make backlinks, blog comments, etc etc. All is ready for December sales... but for that date, the bestseller TV is now Samsung CCDD.

Don't you think that will be a waste of time?? We will have our website on top of google's 1st page but with no sales...

Good question but i think you need to make a few distinctions to really take advantage of this concept

We chose the bestselling tv when doing product and niche research. This is a specific point in time.

Now once you promote it may drop off as bestselling tv from amazon list. BUt this does not mean that this tv is not selling? THis is far from the rule. I have products that sell more than the bestselling products on amazon but they never appear from some odd reason

Just imagine Samsung spending hundreds of millions of dollars developing a tv and as soon as it drops from bestseller list they stop producing that tv or develop another one. Sounds crazy.

But tvs generally have a life span anywhere from 12 to 18 months in my experience. So you will always promote and make sales even though they may not be the bestseller at that point in time. You are in the promotion phase at this point and not in niche research

Just one point of clarification if you are following along in this blog

This plan that i set out is my plan. My goal is to make between $30k - $40 a month during the holiday season with this. I have done it before and it can be done again.

Therefore i have a level of staff and a team to help me with this.

You do not have to do the same thing as me. Please set your own goal. IT could be $5k a month or whatever and you may only need a few blogs and far less work

But the one point i do want to encourage you is to set a goal. Once you do this then all your efforts will be directed towards it you will make progress and win

Oh and it does take work. SO brace yourself for that. Nothing is easy until you put in the work upfront and reap the rewards later

I wanted to share this as i have been getting a lot of pm's about this and wanted to clarify this issue.

Amazon is expected to make $9b in the last quarter. Are you going to get your share?

      Steve

My answer is not as good as hub based on my testing only.

This does not mean that it does not work better than hub pages but i have not yet figured this out

here is what i did. I selected 30 amazon products. I did unique content for each of them and posted them to different social media web2.0 profiles

The best one was ezine articles. it had more listings in the first page then any of the rest. But one big problem. I had to first send them to a blog then to amazon.

The next best result was hub. I figured how to rank hub quickly and also if you know a little about hub you will find out how to send natural free seo traffic for testing

I had a lot of 1st page listing with basic seo

With weebly i ended up having many page 2 ranking with same amount of work

By the way this testing as last year and the results may be different this year

One major challenge with hub pages. You need quality pages. Hub pages are strict and you will get deleted. But the good news if you do it right you get good quality customers and is a awesome way to test

Now no way am i saying my testing or findings are conclusive. Bottom line i use hub as it continues to work. When it stops being effective i will move onto something else

      I hope this helps

    Niel,

Regarding the blogs you are building, are these each an individual blog living under their own domain, or are they structured in a format such as:

    www . widgetcategory/widget1
    www . widgetcategory/widget2
    www . widgetcategory/widget3

When you say each blog is silo structured and that it is optimized for 3 keywords does that mean that you might have a blog that promotes the same products but using different keywords? Additionally, are you promoting your individual silos with 3 keywords where the blog might include multiple silos dealing with different product/keyword combinations?

When you say 8 to 10 pages of unique content, do you mean pages in the wordpress sense or are you referring to articles/posts?

Regarding hub-pages, are you suggesting promoting a single product or a category of products on a hub page?

Thanks for this post, it's inspired me to take another look at amazon products.

Thanks for this post, it's inspired me to take another look at amazon products.

      1. These are seperate blogs for each product or group of products. These are not subdomains as you described above

      2. Generally i find hot product/s and then search for keywords. I want to know what is selling first and then the keywords that result in a sale as this is the physical product market. So i take the product name type into google keyword tool and do keyword research. There is a whole series of steps for keyword research. Then i find a domain name based off the theme and then do research for silo struture category keywords.

      3. Each blog only has only silo structured them. And this is based off your domain name or primary keyword. I do not have more than one silo structure for each blog. Now i do make these broad themes and also promote multiple related products where appropriate

      4. 8-10 pages of unique content is based off my keywords. so i take the product and keywords and write content for each of this. all must be unique. if you add up the main product keywords, 3 keywords you rank for and your silo keywords you will easily get to 8-10 articles and a well keyword themed blog that will rank high

      5. Promote a single product for hub pages till you become a master at it. Then do review type products later on

While typing out my responses to your questions i realized that my answers my not be direct or easily followed or specific enough. If you need more clarification, please go ahead and post your questions again and i will try to give more concrete examples

      These were really good questions.

    Greetings Neil,

Thanks for providing your detailed plan of action. It's always great to see what fellow warriors are doing that involves that keyword: action.

I am curious about your set up however. I run the typical review pages with in-content affiliate links (cloaked) to my amazon product pages and this works for me, but you caught my interest when you mentioned how you use the seth godin plugin and lead the visitor to an amazon pre-sell stage. I can see how this would work with a typical 1 product per blog set up. Write content, and try to funnel the viewer to your pre-sell landing page. Simple, sounds like it works great and I want to test it.

For my sites, however, I use a minimum of 5 products in the same niche or sub-niche. How would you approach your pre-sell landing page with the use of 5 products? My thought process is to create a quick-summary page of the products (of sorts) that tries to entice the visitor to click over.

    Thoughts?

You got it and on the right track.

I create a review page as my presell page when selling multiple products. I usually show pricing client reviews and i make a suggestion as to what i pick

These review type pages are getting much higher click through rates

The technical reason why i use this method just in case newbies are reading this thread is as follows:

1, amazon is beginning to ban bridge pages and push them way down the index. so said differently if have a site and most of the outbound links are pointing to amazon only instead of other high quality sites a well then my site was considered a bridge page
      2. whenever you create a site for the long term if you have links to amazon then make sure you have links to good neighborhoods with different ip diversity

What would seth godin do plugin is a mitigation to this linking and bridge page issue and is ninja

          Jan, good question

What i usually do is create one product sales page. All the text, anchor links or banners inside the seth godin plugin points to that product page in the site. So it is internal linking to one page.

Then when that person gets to the page they can read, click and go to amazon.

The is only one outbound to amazon instead of hundred links pointing out from the Seth Godin plugin and negates the bridge page effect

Let me know if this helps or maybe we can do a step by step guide in this blog or something

Can I clarify that Amazon is banning people with just bridge pages? (or do you mean Google in the SERPs?). All I have been doing is writing a 400-500 word article on the keyword and put the keyword products at the top / middle of the page with links pointing to Amazon. (I think this would be classified as a bridge page?)

The click through rate to Amazon is in excess of 50%, just been allowing the Amazon site to sell the product but do put a positive spin in the article itself and talk about the fantastic service / value / security offered by the biggest and the best online retailer!!

15 unique views is not enough for sales. you need more traffic. So my first step is to increase the traffic flow to your blog

As for sales, your goal is not to sell them. Let amazon do the selling because they are masters at it.

Your goal is to get someone to go to amazon. I know this may sound different but this subtle difference is quite important here.

SO the way i do that is a strong call to action. Tell them to click here and go to amazon. tell them they could get a discount or free shipping (depending on what amazon offers on the product) My favorite technique now is to say there is a controversial review on this product in amazon and they must read this before they buy.

So use and test different call to actions to get them to go to amazon. DO not sell, Let amazon sell.

Yes, as for your article directory site all you have to do is get amazon banners. Amazon has excellent marketing materials (banners, widgets, etc) that you can place on your site. You may get a better return than adsense especially during the holiday period.

You may want to use a banner rotation software where you can try different banners and test them on your blog to see which ones work and giving you the most clicks so you can manage from one interface.

Let me know if you need a recommendation for that or you have your own. I use a free banner rotation software that is just awesome for this kind of activity

      Hey Malik:

As far as your Amazon site,

are you saying no one is clicking your Amazon
      affiliate links??
If no one is clicking your links, you will have to
tweak your copy ---the words you're using.

If people are clicking your links but not buying,
the product you're promoting has some serious
      issues. Try another product.

      Hope that helps...

Thank you for all of this outstanding information. Very few experienced and actual working warriors are willing to provide this type of help. I love the hub page market testing. I am going to use it to test some long tail keywords on my large cooking and travel sites before diving into some serious content building. I like doing keyword research to figure out what my next series of pages will be. Market testing will take it to the next level in allowing me to determine where to focus my efforts.

Its not often I click on a Warriors signature link. Its even less often I take a second look and stay really interested. Job well done here and thanks again.

The theme i am using now is thesis theme. I do not have an affiliate link or anything but i must tell you this rocks

It is a clean design easy on eye gravity and after my testing if you use the right way converts very well.

Also i like this theme because there is a wordpress affiliate plugin for this and can help me scale my efforts easily

The other theme that i use and work with is affiliate theme as well which is very good but will slowly doing more work with thesis.

Now i can go into detail about why i like thesis and all my research and findings about it but i would say if you are getting started then use this. You will not go wrong

Also other themes are good as well so if you have one that is working do not change this. The focus should be on testing and traffic and picking a theme last

Two ways to go about minimizing the competition:

Either go after the specific product models

      -OR-

Narrow your product category into subniches (i.e., 1080p HDTV instead of TV)

              Sandy

Here are some specific ideas and steps with respect to site design

I have a few rules of thumb when it comes to designing a site

              1. No more than 2 colors for your blog
              2. One font type only
              3. Justification of text (left alignment)
              4. SIMPLICITY Of Design as the ultimate goal only
              5. The only thing that should should catch the readers attention is your specific call to action

Now with those rules in mind here i have two approaches for designing my site.

With respect to simple websites i.e. long tail keywords maybe one or two products in niches

              1. i use a completely white background.
              2. The header is in Black font text size only
              3. Every post is in the same font text size except smaller font
              4. The amazon product picture is the only "color" on my site and it stands out very nicely as the call to action
              5. The best visual is to go look at something like cnn site except it is all white with black text
              6. Single column blog format

the simplicity of this design makes it very easy to read and professional and at the same time focusing on the call to action

Now where i chose to go with an authority type site - I have the same approach except i may design a good header banner with product pictures and call to action.

I will have a two column blog format. The right column will have amazon banners and other call to action elements, categories, etc

I hope this helps. Post some detailed questions below and i will help drill down into the blog design

              One final thought.

Think of the blog design as building a template. Once you figured out the pieces of the template and you know what fonts, colors pictures, text, call to action goes on your blog, then it is a matter of replicating this template and scaling by building as many blogs as possible

The key is to figure out your design and then this activity should only be 5% of your effort going forward and the rest should be content writing and traffic creation activities

The key is keyword research. Going after LCDTV digital cameras as a keyword is just plain crazy if you do not have the resources to compete with this

I would agree you never want to target these keywords

But that is not what we are doing here. Going after something like samsung 411060 qx lcd tv (i made that up ) is a long tail keyword. If you do your research you will find that you can rank for that with some targeted smart work

So staying away from cameras, tvs and toys especially during the holiday season is setting yourself to be a broke marketer.

It is like saying you are not going to sell heaters to eskimos but instead you will sell them ice in winter

My personal opinion for what it is worth, you cannot sell people anything but You cannot stop people from buying what they want.

So if someone wants to buy their kid a camera for Christmas i am going to direct them to it through my website

I hope it makes sense. DO not be afraid of competition. Outsmart your competition by selling what they are by chosing keywords that you can easily rank for and make sales

And believe me there are hundreds of golden nugget keywords in these markets you can make sales

And go after tvs; toys and cameras (about 45% of all cameras are sold during the last quarter of the year)

      Good job on taking action

Just one caution. DO not set yourself up for failure. I see this happen with most people when they get started

Instead of buying a domain, set up a hub page lens and promote product immediately

Also, have a clear understanding of your results upfront before you even start to prevent failure. are you expecting to make 10 sales, 100 clicks, ect. What are your expectations for this test

FOr me, would pick about 30 products, build hub pages, start testing promoting and see which get sales and scaling to a blog and ramping up traffic

Though this system is simple to use it does require work so i am afraid only doing one product when getting started may set you for failure. Do not fall in this trap

You just offered an education for free that is far better than most newbies would pay a lot of money to receive. It speaks well of you and of this forum.

Thank you for this Neil. I have created a couple of hubpages for products I want to research. How do I guage the effectiveness of the hubpages? Is it views, clicks, sales, or a combination? The first hubpage I created has 9 views in the first 24 hours and the second has 8. No sales yet but the views are climbing. Also, is there a way on Amazon to track how many clicks came from my hubpages?

Great question. There are different level of tests depending on what you are trying to accomplish> Lets say you are trying to determine the commercial viability of a product you are trying to promote.

In this case actual sales would be the ultimate objective

      So step 1
      1. create hub
      2. step 2 drive views to the hub pages. If there are not enough views that maybe no one is interested in the product
3.Step 3 - count how many sales you get from the product. If none then you may need to go back and tweak your landing page copy to see if it is worth promoting

The best way to track for now using hub pages is google analytics installed on hub pages and then look at sales reports from amazon. This is a little time consuming but very easy to do. DO not waste money on any fancy tools at this point

Also be very aware. If you only have one hub page you become obsessive about this. You will check stats and make irrational decisions because you did not set this up correctly. Most fall into this trap without realizing it

Upfront go for volume of hub pages so you can get the right data and make right decisions

      Hi Neil,

Thanks for the info on your WP templates.

I have been using two column, but I will do some testing with one column.

I have been thinking of removing headers from my small sites for some time, as it seems to improve the ctr.

      Any particular plugins you use?

      Cheers

I have a long response to this question and i will not get into it here. Essentially i have tried and tested and have a very specific set of plugins that i use day in and day out. They do three things, help me get indexed faster and designed to get me traffic and sales

That said here are a few suggestions at the top of my head
      1. What would Seth Godin Do
2, All in one seo pack (vital for page optimazation)
      3. Try Jeff Johnsons free traffic getting plugin
      4. Exit pop up to amazon. Almost every one would do but i strongly recommend getting one as it is responsible for about 40% of my amazon sales

And most of all the other plugins are traffic related from rss feeds, to connecting with social bookmarking sites, and even a stealth one from a super affiliate that automatically builds incoming links for you. However if you know what i am talking about make sure you use that plugin with caution

Good to see you have another really useful and informative Amazon post up; your previous monster post early on in the year was full of actionable points - thanks!

I'm looking into the Seth Godin plugin you have mentioned and wanted to know if you can only use it on sites which promote one merchant ie Amazon? I have a few sites where I have pages that promote CJ products though in the main it is mainly Amazon products and I wanted to know if I could still use the Seth Godin plugin where I have more than 1 merchant?

Fifi - Good to hear from you. Watch you email soon, i am going to be hosting a series of calls to update on the latest strategies that are working and to dive more into what must be done to make money before end of the year. i will send this out next week

You can use this to promote anything you want really, I would use the plugin and point everyone who clicks on it and redirect them to your home page or your offer page.

in our offer page you could have cj; amazon or any products you like

        Hello fellow ex-Deloittian!

Tell me do you get your outsourcers to fill in time sheets in 6 minute intervals?

Great information here thanks Neil. I haven't yet done anything with Amazon but you will be my go-to-guy once I've completed and scaled up my current business plan. Ready for next Christmas I hope! Otherwise I know if I do too many things at once no money will be made

Would like to get some of the same info.. Also, what is considered to be a good ctr to Amazon.com? My sites are between 50 and 60% but I'm not sure if that is good compared to other people's Amazon sites.

      Han

here is a little more detail on what i am doing currently

To find the best call to actions for the What would seth godin do plugin, type your product in google. look at the paid ppc ads and see which one has been around the longest and have good ROI and model this message,

If it is working for ppc that is a great way to develop specific call to actions for the plugin

Step 2. Either create one presell page or use your home page as the presell. Point the links from the Seth Godin plugin to the either of these pages.
SO this is all internal linking

Now directly under your Seth Godin Plugin on the home or presell page have one link directly to amazon which is your affiliate link

I hope this gives you more ideas

That means build backlinks. 'Few' in this case means 20-30 or even 40 backlinks per hub.

The holidays are around the corner. Can you believe that 2010 will be over soon?

If you are struggling to make money or not have made much or looking to polish up and be an expert then now is the time

People spend money during the holidays. You do not need to convince they to buy they will happily spend irrespective of what is going on in the economy

So the fastest and easiest way is amazon.

And if you want to make some money this holiday then start now and be focused about it.

The easiest strategy is build a hub page and get it ranked fast.

When i said build a few links above i have found in my testing that if you have the long tail product name for new amazon products as your main keyword and 20-30 links you get ranked fast and some traffic. (thanks Janis for answering this)

Now this is a rule of thumb and may vary in some cases.

And when you make sales, ramp it up with a blog, video, articles, etc

So just doing this consistently with a focused mindset and action will get you towards your goals.

There is no better and easier time to make money and start off your journey as an online marketer by promoting affiliate products like amazon especially when there is a huge demand at this time of the year

Yes, only 96 days left until X-mas :-(

What's the quickest way to build 20-30 backlinks for my hubpages? Can I use profile links like Angela's backlinks or do I need to vary them with articles, social bookmarking, etc?
