Should I encash this CB check?

Last month I requested for a reissue of check because it was almost 2 months and my check did not arrive. However, 2 hours after I made the request, my check arrived and it was late because it was somehow erroneously sent to Cayman Island instead of the Philippines. So, after receiving the check I immediately contacted CB to disregard my request for re-issue since I already got the check. The customer rep told me to go ahead and deposit the check and she will cancel my re-issue request.

2 weeks ago, I was surprised to receive the reissued check; and I have already encashed the original check. I was contemplating that on one hand, if I report this issue to CB they might ask me to send back the check at my own expense; or they will request a stop payment for that check and charge to my account the bank charges.

On the other If I encash the check they will eventually find out and deduct the said amount from my future earnings/CB balance. What should I do?

Any suggestions? Thanks for your help

How about....Don't cash it, but burn it.

    Ethical and easy, right?

Just cash in 1 of the checks to the bank,

and contact clickbank to say you contacted them to cancel the reissue of a check, which has arrived anyway, so that they are aware of the situation, and can contact their billing accounts department and notify them.

You can Shred the other check.

Why is this even a question? Write "VOID" on it, mail it back or at the very least send them an email telling them what happened. sheesh.

    John,

Well let me ask you this: does your check look like it has 7 or more digits in it?

    Best Regards,

Do NOT burn, shred or eat the check before contacting CB.

It's their check... they'll tell you what they want you to do with it.

This should NOT come to your mind. It's not an option at all. Just let them know what's going on using back the same email with the initial replies and they will advise you what to do.

    No big deal.

This has happened to me already with another company.

If you already cashed the first check, then throw away the second one. Don't try to cash it as I am sure that you won't. So throw it away.

I wouldn't destroy the check, its your only proof it wasn't cashed. If they want proof you didn't cash it, sending them some burnt ash isn't going to cut it, and they'll probably want to do a stop payment at your expense.

I'd follow Rich's or Tsnyder's advice. If it's too expensive to send it back, I'd keep it in a drawer in case they ever want it... it'll be cheaper to send it back that to pay the stop payment.

I wonder why they they didn't cancel the cheque before reissuing it. Or maybe they did and the bank is at fault for cashing it. Either way a cheque is traceable. I would destroy it. The bank will see it's never been cashed.
