To squidoo or not to squidoo - That is the question

Hi guys. I'm new to all this IM malarchy, but after loitering on WF for a while I think I have a grasp of some of the basics of web sites, keywords, affiliates, etc. But can someone please explain what role squidoo lenses and twitter play in the great scheme of things, and how they can be best used in an overall marketing strategy. My apologies if this has been covered ad-nauseum, but as a beginner I sometimes find the terminology confusing.

I'll leave the Twitter part of your question to someone who uses it. But as far as Squidoo goes...

A "lens" is simply a cutesy name for a page on Squidoo. People write them about anything and it's a good venue for expounding on your message. Also, and of interest to you as an IM type, they welcome marketing lenses. That means if you have a product or service, feel free to create a lens about it and talk it up. It can be a very effective portal into your niche market business (if you have one).

As with any other sites, keyword research is important. Lenses do show up in Google (and other) searches. Would be nice if yours showed up for a keyword/phrase that you've targeted, wouldn't it?

We have some resident Squidoo talent on the board here, including Tiffany Dow. Search her messages and you'll learn a lot. Here's her bio page on Squidoo:

Good luck with it. - Russ

We use Squidoo and others to:

    1. Tap into search engine traffic - Use web 2.0 sites, such as Squidoo, hubpages, Associated Content, Wikispaces, Blogspot and Wordpress to tap into search engine traffic with long tail keywords.

    2. Use Web 2.0 authority to build quality back links back to our money site.

    3. Participate in the Web 2.0 community and make friends, build relationship, use social marketing to drive traffic to our money site.

The first and second methods requires extensive keyword research to identify the best long tail keywords.

The last method requires time and good content to build relationship before converting any sales...

First, thanks Russ Your video is really good!

Jimmy - I use Twitter and Squidoo in conjunction with one another. Have you ever heard of the "funnel" or "slippery slide" as far as it's concerned with marketing? That's what Squidoo and Twitter do for you. They're ways to help prospects get into your funnel and slide on through to your landing pages where you convert them.

On Twitter, you create a following. They click through on your links when you post them. They retweet them to their OWN followers, and it become a viral spread of your URL.

With Squidoo, it's a powerful SEO tactic and easy way to set up a web presence. You can set up Squidoo to Tweet your lens posts when you update them.

With Twitter, it's very important to be more than a marketer. Your followers are tuning in to get to know YOU too. With Squidoo, you can have a different account for each niche you're in so your expertise isn't worn thin.

Ironically enough, I have a Squidoo lens about using Twitter and Squidoo together:

Twitter and Squidoo go together like PB&J :-)
