Finding an Animation Artists?

Anyone know of a good place to start when developing a short cartoon?
I searched around the WFH but didn't find much in way of animation development.

I guess there's elance but Warrior suggestions are always helpful.

Thanks,
Ken

I apologize if this is in the wrong section.

60 seconds for the first one which is to be a trailer.
Then a biweekly 2 minute hit on the news.

I looked at doing it myself but just not enough time or energy to make it worth while at the moment.
I'm looking at paper cutout style and believe once an assortment of characters and body parts are gathered and a routine is set it shouldn't be too difficult to manage except for the scripts.

Hiring a production firm is a bit too costly at the moment so outsourcing bits and pieces is the way I am going to try.

      Hi Ken,

Thought I would reply as there is an animation artist sitting right here next to me. She runs a small studio producing animation for children's television.

I mentioned your post and she is wondering what stage you are currently at and what your time-scales are.

Do you need characters designed as well as the animation? How about storyboarding? For the actual animation she works to a soundtrack so your scripts and audio would usually be produced first.

It would be useful if you could link to any existing videos that are of a similar style and complexity to what you are looking for.

Also, does biweekly mean two a week or one every two weeks?

Please feel free to ask any questions you have about the production of your animated videos, I will do my best to answer them.

      Cheers,
      Phil

Can you give any indication of a range of rates? PM me if you like.

I have an animation project I've had "on hold" for quite a while. Last time I looked into doing something with it, the costs were way out of my budget.

Dan's content is irregularly read by handfuls of people. Join the elite few by reading his blog: dcrBlogs.com, following him on Twitter: dcrTweets.com or reading his fiction: dcrWrites.com but NOT by Clicking Here!

Dan also writes content for hire, but you can't afford him anyway.

            Hi Martin,

Thanks for the mention, but those cartoons you've seen use an animation software I purchased. I just add or draw the cartoon characters. If anyone is interested in doing this themselves, just PM me and I'll send you a link to the software.

I wouldn't normally promote my stuff in a thread, and I'm not promoting here, just adding 'clarity' since my name was mentioned.

Below is a cartoon character of a car I drew as a mock squeeze page video so you can see what I'm talking about. You'll notice the little car is asking you to sign up to the fictional business' list.

            ~Bill

            P.S.

That service was removed from my sig a few months ago.

    Hi Ken,

If cost is not an issue, you could Google "animation artists for hire," "cartoon creators for hire," etc., and peruse the web for a professional animator.

However, a grad student who is getting a degree in cartoon animation might be a more inexpensive bet. If you check online to find out where some of the better programs are and how to get in touch with students for hire, you might have some luck.

The one other thing that jumps to mind is that you could poke around Youtube for some animation that is more or less similar to what you're going for, and contact the Youtuber directly to see if they'd work for you (or if they could recommend someone who can).

Just a few thoughts in case they're of any use. Good luck with your cartoon endeavors!
