Hi all guru, I am a newbie here trying to explore a whole new world. May I ask if there is any significant different in SEO ranking to have the keyword in the Domain??

First its quite difficult to get the ideal domain and I notice that many top ranking site dont even have the Keyword in their Domain. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Many thanks!!

Having the exact keywords in your domain definitely helps, but it is only one part of the equation. On-page optimization and off-page SEO are far more important.

Even if your domain was terrible, you can outperform the competition with a good SEO strategy.

cool Gene... thanks for the advice.

Just wondering if anyone were to quantify it, what percentage will you give to have a exact keyword for the Domain?

e.g. if i find a good keyword and couldn't get a domain for it, do i abort this keyword or still use another Domain for it?

      Cheers!

I tested it and believe me it doesn't help at all!I see so many people with keywords in their domain but still they cant get good rankings for those keywords.I would suggest building backlinks.I dont care about domain name,I only care about getting quality backlinks

            I disagree!

If your intention to set up an authority site then a keyword domain is not the be all and end all (although it would still help!). However, if your building niche blogs then not using a keyword domain is IM suicide!

I have niche blogs that have little more SEO work about them than a well researched keyword domain and they sit quite happily in the top results getting a few hundred UV a day from the keyword loaded domain alone.

Because of this I struggle to bring myself to register a new domain without doing keyword research first!

I certainly agree having built many niche sites. I always used a three-word keyword domain. That is a criteria I used for my keyword research. If all the domains have been taken I moved to another keyword phrase until I get it. I usually get the website on position 8 to page 2 even before any backlink building starts so that tells you how important keyword in domain is.

In the event that you cannot find an exact keyword domain, I would consider doing one of two things.

        1) If it is a two word phrase, use a hyphen. If it is 3 words or more (and would involve more than one hyphen), it may appear to "spammy". In that case...

        2) Try adding a suffix to the end of your keyword. For instance - yourkeywordinfo.com or yourkeywordtips.com. Using a suffix is better than a prefix because you want your targeted keyword to appear as early as possible in the domain.

        Just some ideas...

So I would definitely say that domains are very important. I would be curious to see the "testing" that proves otherwise. With all things being equal, the keyword rich domain will always outrank the non-keyword domain.

Now is this the only factor in achieving good search engine rankings? Not by a long shot.

Does it help? Yes, absolutely. And if it helps, wouldn't you want everything possible to be in your favor, working for you and not against you?

        Best of luck,
        Derek

thank you Derek, your suggestion are constructive i would likely try a hyphen for a two word domain for a start...

I'd say it does make a difference but not a super huge one. You always want to try and get your keyword in the URL, title, sub-headers and throughout your site. This will help the search engines rank and index you for the keyword you are targeting.

You don't always HAVE to shoot for your keyword but in situations like promoting clickbank products you should probably try to target your keyword specifically so you can promote that product well.

It makes a difference..however you can do without it for sure. I have websites ranking 3rd and 8th for keywords and they dont have the keywords in domain name.

A Good keyword is just like a medicine to the patient, helping him to recover from the ailment he is suffering from...

It helps to check the optimizing level of the website where keywords are present & are used to link the website to several premium search.

Whenever a client come to the website, its possible that he came from Google search, so possibly keyword play a lead role in developing site's branding.

If you're going after one main keyword for your website, having it in the domain is absolutely huge... it takes much less work to rank highly for that term, obviously you need to work on - on and off page factors as well

i guess it a "better to have if possible" theme as there isnt any negative impact, but to have a EMD seem a uphill task.. many thanks for all contribution....cheers!
