Small Rant, Memership Site

I just had to post this, though I won't state the name of the membership site.

If you're going to market a site, where the primary advantage is the forum, you better allow that the actual posts in the forums show the date posted.

I joined a membership site a few days ago, one that I was a member of a year or 2 ago due to a great deal on the monthly price. I thought it was worth the risk to see what is going on in the once active forum.

To my surprise, the forum posts did not include date or time and after doing some investigating, some of the "more recent" posts were actually posted in 2007.

That my friends is deception at its finest and not acceptable, especially when this industry changes so frequently and things that worked last year no longer work. I promptly unsubscribed.

      Because one of the questions in the post I read, which was 3rd from the top of the main forum, asked if the methods they taught in 2006 were still valid in 2007...

      Kinda lame if you ask me. I'm not out much at all though, so no big deal, but I don't recommend other membership site owners eliminate the date.

    Nice catch, yeah it is a shame that kind of thing happens. You did the right thing though, you packed up your stuff and moved on.

    I disagree...it is not deception to simply not list a posting date. Lack of recent posts simply means an inactive forum.

    If that makes you want to unsubscribe, then that's your call and certainly understandable.

    I think it's a stretch to claim deception based on the details you've given.

      I don't think it's a stretch at all. I'll give you more details to clarify.

      I was a very active member of this forum for a while. The forum software has not changed at all, and the forum absolutely had date/time stamps on posts when I was a member. It is obvious to me that the site owners removed the time/date in order to hide the fact that what was once an extremely high traffic/active private forum is a ghost town.

      No big deal though, I'm sure they got the point after I unsubscribed 45 minutes after subscribing.

    Whew! Glad my forum has only been around in 2008.

    Seriously though, I do my best to keep it up-to-date, provide value, and have nothing to hide from my members.

    It sounds like deception to me, too.

    I think it is deception when they hide the date, every forum software normally shows the date, they must have had a coder go in there and change the code to hide it

    If the membership site is being sold on the content in a supposedly active forum, then I'd definitely call it deception.
