What is the Best Way to Get AFfiliates?

I think this is a bit of a rookie question, but... how do I recruit them?

I realize you gotta SELL them on your product just like selling a product myself, but how can I get the world out there?

I was thinking of posting on ELANCE and trying to pay people some cash up front just to promote.

Kind of a far-fetched idea I guess..

Are there any websites that I can advertise on?

Affiliates a wonderful once you get some. A huge part of my biz. Too bad THEY found me and I only have 3 that really do anything.

Hm, I'm struggling with this too but you could go give it a shot in the JV forum. Perhaps create some events to attract affiliates and so forth.

I'll let you know something that makes me ignore an affiliate request almost every time.

When somebody says... "So far we got Richard Head promoting, and Guru Von Dickweed, and blah blah blah blah blah."

So basically what you are telling me is that I have to compete with all these guys who basically have the same list as me? Thanks but no thanks.

I know people do this for social proof to show who's on board to promote but it totally makes me not interested as I'm not keen on duking it out with a bunch of other affiliates.

Search google for sites in your niche using the following:
    "your niche keyword"+affiliates

Find the contact details on their site and email them offering them so kind of value and build a relationship with them. After that cross promote each others products/services.

My stuff is a little different since wine is a physical product and there are more regulations, but simply having a Share-A-Sale program set up has helped us to recruit a large number of affiliates.

As for the better affiliates out there, I took some time and did a series of Google/Yahoo and Bing searches for my main keywords. After finding the larger affiliate sites I sent a short email to the site owners telling them about my business and that I wanted their business. It's been effective overall.

I cant believe nobody has yet said...

    "Have the highest converting offer"

If your offer makes money, believe you me affiliates will track you down. Unfortunately, most product owners don't know the first thing about split testing (lp's and offers) and catering to their affiliates. Look at the adult market. They have info marketers beaten on every front.

Wow. I dig that affiliate announce idea, but I find that site to be confusing.

A site should have one purpose... ugh

The affiliate sites are the best to get your product out there, IMO. Share a Sale and Link Share are good ones to look at.

But do ShareASale and Linkshare do digital products?

Check out your competitors affiliate resource page... See if they have text links that they give to their affiliates... Then do a phrase match search on google for the anchor text and you will find out some of the affiliates that are marketing for your competitor in the niche...

If you do a search on Google for Affiliate Directories there are tons of sites you can list your product or service with to recruit affiliates.

Also when potential affiliates come to your affiliate page, make sure you have a buffet table of tools ready for them to promote your stuff. This is a huge turn on especially for a lazy affiliate like me. I like to see cut and paste email copy, banner ads, blog posts, videos etc. I don't want to do too much work promoting other people's products because you should have most of the work done for me.

Lastly make sure your products are of good quality and test your landing pages for high conversions. The last thing any affiliate wants to see is a poorly designed landing page and one that does not convert well. No one will promote or look at what you have.

Keep those things in mind and you should be able to retain some affiliates looking to promote your stuff.
