question about transferring domain to new registrar

hi,
i have a reseller hostgator HOSTING account.
i bought most of my domain names from namecheap & hostmonster.

i want to transfer domain registrar to 1and1...and keep hosting on hostgator (where i have private nameserver where i got it from namecheap)...

will there be any DOWNTIME if i transfer domain registration from namcheap to 1and1? and hosting is on my own private nameserver (...do i RE create my private namserver on 1and1)?

Since your hosting will remain on hostgator, there should be no problem with the transfer.

If any of your domains are set-up as nameservers themselves then YES you must re-configure private nameserver info at 1and1 as quickly as possible after you transfer. (or ask if it is carried over automatically)

Any domains that are not also used as nameservers can be trasferred normally with zero downtime.

reply yes there could be a down time of 24 - 48hrs but if you have to transfer there really is no other way!

I still say zero downtime (if no mistake is made).

The transfer process will take up to 48 hours or more to take place, but whether the domain is looked up from NameCheap or 1and1, both records would be pointing to the same place.
