Millionaire teenagers?

Hi!

Question -- while I don't doubt that of course there are teenagers that have built business/figured out something that works...

I've recently been getting e-mails from (supposedly) 16 or 17 year olds, that have figured out a "magic" system that is "banking" $100,000+/month, etc for them. One example, a 16-year old girl supposedly after 45 days figured out how to make ~$450k from clickbank, and of course, bought the most expensive cars (that would actually seem to appeal to older men, not necessarily a 16 year old girl, i.e., bentleys, etc). And then a 17 year old guy who figured a magic solution to 'mobile' marketing. And of course, even though they are raking in this cash, they don't mind "sharing" their secrets for a 1-time 'low' price of 'only' $77. (That seems to be a magic number too).

The other thing I've noticed though is these sights have very slick sales pages, i.e., complete with video, good quality graphics, affiliate program, affiliate followup e-mails, etc.

I'm wondering:

a) Is there some "guru" (or "gurus") just going around using 16-17 year olds as 'fronts' to sell products? (Because the sites are very well done. While I don't doubt a 16 or 17 year old can create a professional site -- these sites pretty much have *all* the right "elements". I.e., pyschological triggers in advertising to buy now, proper headlines, proper benefits vs features, proper one time offer, javascript, proper affiliate commissions (i.e., 60-75% as opposed to what most 1st-time/newbie offers might only offer a 10% commission not fully understanding the advantage of a large upfront commission, etc, etc. So the sites just have a lot of the important elements for a good sales page/lead generation process)

b) OR -- is there just some software program that was handed out at some marketing seminar, where all a 16-17 year old (or any age for that matter), just types out what they want to sell, and the software program automatically sets up the 25-30 different marketing elements?

Just curious if anyone had any insight into this,

Thanks,

- J

There are a couple of young marketers on this forum who are knowledgeable, and they are making money, so it's certainly possible. If it's as professional as you've described, however, I feel that one of your other theories is more likely.

If software such as you've described exists, I'd love to get my hands on it.

Yes, there are ....though I'm not sure "guru" is the proper term for them.

Why would they do that? Look at the number of new members under 18 joining here....it's a big market.

I'm not exactly a millionaire teenager but I dated Paris Hilton for a while and she wanted me to model a line of clothing designed for the hip 50s crowd. The problem was that I wasn't that hip.

So then I dated Nicky for awhile and she wanted me to model for a sexy new line of men's underwear she'd designed for middle-aged blokes like me. Again, another dud.

The actual problem with both projects turned out to be the name of the clothing lines. The names weren't nearly hip or catchy enough. There was also another problem with the project and that was the logo or icon that we were to use with the unmentionable undergarments.

I'd love to tell you the names I came up with on my own to replace the lame names the two sisters wanted to use but the truth is, I've got three of those names lined up and waiting for trademark approvals. Not bad, and both of the sisters want to be notified if and when the names are approved.

The moral of the story is, don't let anyone use you unless you get cash up front!

I'm sure there are legitimate teens that are making money ... how much money ... who knows?

But I'm also certain that there are many who are faking being a teen because of the success of carlocab.com, who has been a 16 year old kid blogger for about 5 years now. lol.

I'm still a teenager (an adult teen, but my age ends in "teen"!) and I'm making a full-time income. That took a full year's effort and the kind of discipline that not many kids my age have. Some are undoubtedly legit, but I'd say not all of them.

Yes some of them are undoubteldly legit, and some are not, outsourcing also plays an important role here, and finally dont forget about marketing strategies and gimmicks to attract more sales

Its definitely possible for teens to be very entrepreneurial, George Brown for example is an amazingly talented marketer. I'm pretty sure he's 19, and I know he was smart enough to outsource a copywriter, and offer excellent commissions on Google Sniper when it went live on Clickbank after rocking the WSO section. 16 year olds? Hmm, less likely but still possible I guess.

That being said, based on the way you described the sales set up I'm sure you're right. It could very well be fake; thats certainly not something I'd be surprised to see in the MMO niche. For the FTC to have cracked down on flogs, this sort of fake identity "even a 16 year old can do it!" must be rampant.

More often than not, these are just marketing ploys and tactics designed by the "gurus" to drive home the point that "Hey, if this kiddo can do it, so can you too....but only if you buy my ****!"

Having said that, there ARE some kids out there who have really made their mark.

Hmm, Definitely interesting. It definitely does seem as if probably a 40 year old sitting in front of his comp with a beer and beer belly could be impersonating a 16 or 17 year old from what was described.

The question that puzzles me is why do they want to impersonate a 16 or 17 year old instead of an experience 40 year old who studied 10 years in internet marketing. Wouldn't that be more appeal to learn from someone with 10 years experience instead of an accidental method which have proven to work for perhaps less than a year but not a time tested method?

Because if a 16 year old can do it, anyone can.

A 40 year old with ten years experience isn't just anyone. He's worked his arse off for ten years. That implies that if you want to do the same, you need to work YOUR arse off for ten years, too.

But if Joe Teenager woke up one day and threw some crap up on the internet, and now he makes millions, well - you can do it, too!

After all, even if you're only 21 years old and just starting to figure out that you aren't going to graduate college next year, you're still more experienced than that 16 year old. Hell, he didn't take ANY college.

Oh haha ok. Can't believe I missed that. But my mentality is that if I'm learning from a 40 year old with 10 years experience then you know he's walked the talk. So his information is time tested and proven.

          *Note the bold*

When you think about Internet Marketing, things that were done ten years ago don't really apply to what is going on today. As Dani, always tells me, the Fundamentals are still the same, but the expanding, and the presentation is different.

A site that would convert into 1,000's 10 years ago, may not work today. You can't really time test anything, because of the rapid way things are changing. When my parents were kids (I can't use myself as the example), the computers were these big wonking things. Do you think the marketing principles then were the same? No, because the internet wasn't there.

But, are the fundamentals the same, yes! Just because there young, does not mean the formula they have works, it just means that they don't have as much experience working with it.

        Exactly!

I will probably piss some of you off...

This thread just proves that even experienced marketers can be gullible.

I'm male and over 50. I think I can figure out that a 16yo girl would be likely to use girly colors in her material.

I can also create an email account with a girl's name and correspond in a girl's "voice". I did it once to catch a predator. Cops do it daily.

There's nothing special about the typical long form sales page. They're all cookie cutter and yes, even a teen knows how to copy, paste & edit.

Virtually all high income IM claims are bogus, whether they're made by actual teens, someone posing as a teen, or even a 50 yr old bald guy.

Is it possible for a teen to be making $100K/month in IM? Possible is the wrong word. Is it probable? No.

Am I skeptical? Sure. You all should be.

Also, any site like clickbank, paypal, or affiliate networks have you essentially sign a contract when you join. Isn't it illegal to enter into a contractual agreement with a minor?

How are they getting away with this?

Yes it is possible. There may be some fake claims about teenagers becoming a millionaire to ploy some marketing tactics, but I would still say there are some teenagers who are doing pretty well online.

Just look at James Penn, he's really outstanding. He's earning 6 figures per year while studying in college (not sure if he graduated now), and I've known him for 2 years now and he's really an honest and ethical marketer.

It is possible. I was 16 when I got my first debit card and I used it to create my PayPal account. I'm 18 now and have had no trouble from PayPal regarding my age.

I also recently opened a new PayPal account and not once did it ask for a DOB during the registration.

No, you have to be 18 years old to get a Paypal account and I learned it the hard way

I'm 17 and I use my mom's paypal and bank account for all of my online stuff and as soon as I turn 18, I'll get my own paypal and bank account.

As for the rich 16 year old girl, she seems waaaayyy to fake to me. I can tell that there is someone behind her telling her what to do. Especially in the video.

But there are always exception (like George Brown) so you never know.

And BTW, I am 17 and I am full time online so yeah it is possible but millions are what I don't usually believe in

It is much more appealing to hear that a 16-17 year old can make it in IM (as stated above) that would be why it has been chosen as a marketing method.

Guys, I ran a small but successfull record lable by the age of 16. If I would have had internet back then and known abot the possibilities of internet marketing I could have hit it big.

So age is not a problem. You can open bank accounts in many countries when you are 15 and if you can't get a clickbank account or paypal account you can always get your parents to get you one. I mean, no one is checking, right?

Also, in Norway right now the most famous fashion bloggers are girls who are 14 years old and makes a 150.000 USD+ a year from their own bedroom... Anyone can do anything. Young age is not a restriction - rather an advantage.

I have read about a lot of young entrepreneurs who have made a lot of money online like adam horiwitz ,michael dunlop and a few others ,also if you red up sites like juniorbiz.com or youngentrepreneur.com you will find more and more teenagers making it big at a very young age.

The amazing thing about guys and gals who are at that age is that they have taken an opportunity and have turned it around for themselves and many of them are making really good money online and offline.

I really am so happy for these kids because at the young age to get to where they are right now financially, is pretty amazing and inspiring.

I know one guy who is only 15-16 and is making a whole lot of money online. It can be done and these kids are doing it.

I think you'll find that it's a mixture of both scenarios... there are certainly teenagers who have found the key to making money that would make most of us salivate.

BUT it also makes sense that sometimes it's a ploy and a teen isn't involved at all. If there are brilliant teens making a lot of money (and there are!) then you'll soon find the unscrupulous coming along to take advantage of that fact.

I read about half of it, and found out, she does know what she's talking about. To be honest, I doubt a guy was behind this book. Thanks -- yes, that is one of the people I was referring to. "Her" site just seemed a little too perfect. Not that it isn't possible that she would be able to put together a good site -- but it just looked very slick, even had e-mails to followup with affiliates, etc. Usually people make mistakes and/or forget about certain marketing elements (no matter what age, whether 15 or 30 or 45) -- but she seemed to have all of them there. So wasn't sure if it is a front and someone hired her as an actor, or if it is actually the real deal.

I think it could just be part of the spin. If she actually did come up with that/create the sales page/etc everything herself, then I am very impressed. There are just about 25-30 different elements in her entire sales process, etc which most 'n00bies' miss at least 1-2 of them, while she seems to have it pretty much down pat. And usually being a good affiliate does not necessarily translate into being a good product creator, etc. Especially because she was ALSO able to 'atrract' major affiliates to promote her product as well (which is not easily done, unless you are doing list swaps/jvs/etc as well).

So thats why it seemed like it might be a bit of a front. But if she did, then she seems to have all the elements down pat.

Actually, probably would. Maybe a spin of "Look how a 67 year old made 2 million in 2 months from sitting in his pajamas after his granddaughter showed him what this facebook thing was".

Thanks for the tip. I'm off to talk to my granddaughter right now.

It is very interesting. I wonder if Carol would clean up some of the things. There are some legit points in her book, at least the copy she sent me. I do find it weird that she blurs out her name. Actually that's not weird, thats insane.

Ok, this probably is a front then, kind of what I suspected.

I don't doubt that there are some very successful teenagers, but this particular website just seemed a bit suspicious.

Probably someone hired a 16 year old girl (maybe shes 18/19/whatever), paid $100-$200, and just used that on the salespage.

I came here, because I saw the reference to my write-up on Carol Nguyen.

But back to the original question. It seems right on this forum there are several teenagers with the potential to become millionaires while still in their teens - if that's what they choose to do.

When I was a teen I was hustling backgammon, hanging out in bars - not exactly destined to be a millionaire teen. LOL.

There are at least 4 teenagers here in the Warrior Forum who (at least in my mind) have stunning discipline.

For me, the question is not "did these 16 year olds make a million dollars?"

My question is "did these 16 year olds make a million dollars using the program these guys are trying to sell to me, and is that program still a viable way to make money?"

Us teenagers are born for this. We started using computers as soon as we could walk. A lot of us were learning html for our myspace accounts in 5th grade. I wouldn't underestimate what this generation is capable of.

I agree with a lot people are saying. Yes! there probably are some people who are fake. But remember teens are generally the people who are most comfortable with a lot of stuff that adults struggle with.

(P.S. I'm including myself in this category because I only stopped being a teen last year!!)

It doesn't even seem strange to me that a lot of teens would be able to quickly work out in the space of a few months what it takes for people who are a lot older than they are to figure it out.

Secondly, remember us as teens do not have huge commitments. We can repeatedly stay up till 2 in the morning messing around on the computer (if we wanted to). It seems logical therefore that at least a few of these teens would be able to really strike it big! I dont know what others think but that's my opinion

      Should be interesting.

Caleb, what it looks like isn't so much as the site was stolen - but that the same owners are behind both sites.

You'll also notice that I show in on the videos that affiliates who promoted the previous site are getting their affiliate commissions hijacked.

There's actually a lot more to the story than what's on that page and in those videos, but I don't put anything up until I have everything documented (and saved).

Here's the latest. One of the people the site used for their testimonial posted this on my blog:

"I don't know where he or she got my photo and my contact details but I never made $11k in a week but thanks for free traffic lol "

He just did a post on his own site about it here:

It comes back to filtering the junk out! Maybe the software does work and maybe it doesn't. Most of the purchases I have made from "teens" or "gurus" can work for you if you are willing to work them!

There are teens that have made a lot of money online (as mentioned above). The point will always be plan your work and work your plan.

Sorry for the straightforward approach I have fell victim to the bright and shiny object syndrome too often and I hate to see anyone lose a ton of money to it!

Perhaps, but the occupants of at least one of those units aren't very charming.
