Google Map Changes?

Seems Google Maps must be experimenting with something.

Tonight, the map listings appeared on the right, above the sponsored ads, then stays in that position as you scroll the page.

Sometimes organic listings appear above the map listings, other times the map listings appear first.

Search was "hotels in chicago il"

are you talking about its position with single keyword or with different keywords?

They have been rolling out changes recently across a bunch of different areas. I've seen some weird stuff out here on the west coast. I'm convinced it is all going to go "pay to play" soon for the map results (within the organic listings). It just bothers me that for many local searches now (especially in competitive markets), the maps/PPC are really crowding out the organic listings. Sigh. I'm hoping they can stick to a standard soon though, so at least we'll know where we're at as far as local maps SEO goes....
