DLGuard and Apostrophes

I am using DL Guard (version 4.4.1) on a few sites for single product sales with PayPal.

Every once and a while the purchaser has a Special-Charter, usually an apostrophe ('), in their name or their business name and the information does not "come through" from PayPal to DL Guard.

Does anyone know of a fix or work-around for this?
(Other than manual data entry from PayPal receipt information into DLG)

I have posted in the DLG forum; there is just a lot more activity here.

Thanks, JEFF

PS - DLG works great - over 1000 sales and this is the only problem I have had (other than when PayPal's IPN went down last year).

    Hi Jeff,

    I'll reply here too!

Firstly - thanks for letting me know! This has been reported, and there'll be a fix in the next version of DLGuard.

I could get you a patch now, if you like, but you'll need to upgrade to v4.5 first, as the early patch would only work with v4.5.

When I release the new version, you'll be able to upgrade straight from v4.4.1 if you like.

    I'm glad you're enjoying DLGuard!

    cheers

    Hi Sam,

    Thanks for the patch.
That was fast and “weekend service”.

As I have read here many times, you do have great customer support.

If I do not have a natural purchase by someone with an Apostrophe in their name in the next few weeks or so, I will try find someone (with an ' in their name) to make a purchase and let you know how it goes.

    Thanks again, JEFF

    Hi Sam,

The patch appears to be working properly.
I had a purchase come thru yesterday with an apostrophe in the name.
It was a business name. I can see they have downloaded their purchase.

I would have tested my sites sooner but I contacted the hand full of people I know with an ' in their name and all of them have removed the apostrophe from their credit cards because they had trouble checking-out at a lot of sites.

    Thanks Again - JEFF

Yeah, this is one of the problems with scripting languages, like php. If you don't quote just right.... HEY, the US had the SAME problem with boarding passes, etc... They didn't allow apostrophes, and didn't exactly match drivers licenses!

Great to hear it's all working well, Jeff!

Wow Steve, bording passes and drivers licence mismatches? I bet that would have caused a lot of chaos. And people fearing for their jobs may not have allowed them through, either!

    cheers

I should have posted a related link:

Bill O'Reilly, Maureen O'Hara, Rosie O'Donnel Face Airline Ban - ABC News

The airline systems can't handle Irish O'Names so they run the last name as OConnor. Which is not the same as the name on Mary's passport or driving licence.

Irish Central founder and publisher Niall O'Dowd found this out the hard way when he was trying to book a flight to Atlanta.

"I had to drop the apostrophe and run my name as 'ODowd,'" he said. "I felt like I was giving up my national identity." Another frequent Irish flier, Sean O'Hare, said he regularly has trouble in the U.S.

"I don't understand why the airlines can't cope with apostrophes," he said.

"Every time I come to the U.S. I have trouble with it.

"The irony of it all is that the airport I use the most is O'Hare in Chicago.

I have used DLGuard for my clients and it works great without doubt.

Sam's support is great as always, even on this forum without any support ticket.

    Haha, that IS pretty funny.

MySQL has it's own little function that allows you to encode data going into your database, which is also protection against SQL injection.

    It's a handy little feature!

I'm glad you're enjoying DLGuard, Mihir! And thank you for your kind words!
