If you had an idea for an iphone app but didn't have the skills to develop the product yourself, how could you outsource it and protect yourself from the idea beng nicked?

You can always make your employees sign a contract before they start working on it.
Basically you can list whatever you want in that contract because most of them will get scared and won't even think about trying to cheat.

Also make sure you don't let them access your Apple marketplace account. If they do access it and see you're doing well they might try to create a clone application.

I've made a few apps and I got the impression that they don't really care about it and won't try to steal the idea because most ideas fail to work. So they'll just collect the guaranteed money and that's all.

I think I have a contract like this and I could let you tweak it. Send me a message if you want it and I'll look for it.

You can post the project on a freelancing site like freelance.com , elance.com, there you can get your app made for cheap! You will make a very nice profit if it's a wanted application!

I recently wrote an article on app creation, PM me if you're interested.

By the way, you'll need to sign a non disclosure agreement between you and any designers on the job so they don't steal your idea.

    Hope that helps,
    Matt

Honestly if somebody wants to steal it, unless you are going to invest a ton of money in legal bills, then they probably will. THe NDA's with folks outside of your legal jurisdiction (i.e. another country) are not worth the paper they are written on - are you really going to hire an (insert country) lawyer and prosecute?

I would suggest going to vworker (or similar site) and posting a brief overview of the project and ask the bidders to send some samples or links to their samples. Pick a shortlist who have a GREAT track record and good feedback. Then give them the full details of the project and get their bids...

    It's what I do

If you are searching for a freelancer and want your idea watermarked use odesk.com . Every freelancer agrees to an agreement and you can sue if anything confidential is revealed.

    I agree with @jaxrefinance.
I think that these websites where are freelancers, it's the best way to develop your idea.
(if it's a good agreement. i recommend oDesk and Freelancer for this project)
Give it a try and see yourself.
    Good luck!
