What exactly is a webinar?

I've heard this term thrown around a lot... People advising doing webinars, etc...

Is it actually a live video stream, or is simply a pre-recorded video that gets taken down at a certain time, etc. Do people use any specific software/tools/sites to set it up, or is it just whatever video software you want, & depends on the individual?

Thanks!

It can actually be either one. There's a lot of stuff out there advising people to do a live stream, record it, then schedule playback of the live stream for other groups (e.g. in other time zones), and finally give out a recording of the webinar for a limited time. Some people recommend the recording only go out to paying customers.

Personally, I like to view webinar recordings as bonus fodder. Do a webinar? The recording is a product. You can sell it. You can offer it as a bonus. You can use it as a listbuilder. Save up a bunch of them, and you can offer people a big honkin' package of webinars for something like $80.

Scarcity is built right in. Couldn't make it? Too bad. It's over. It's gone. But if you really wanted to see it... for this low, low price...

The gold standard in the industry is gotowebinar.com as far as I can tell.
