Amazon Affiliates - Changing Links

Isn't an Amazon affiliate sales link bound to be a short term deal, since model numbers change all the time?

For example, if you are promoting a Canon PowerShot SX20IS, what happens when Canon goes to a PowerShot SX50IS (I made that up)?

The more sites/articles you have, the more agonizing work to check and update the links.

Is that just Life? Or am I missing some solution?

Not necessarily, Amazon will continue to sell these models for a few years at a time as long as sales continue. Some items will be continue to sell up to 10 years. I have a site I've not looked at for a while with amazon products that are related to my niche; those products are still on sale it's a simple matter to change the link in word press if they stop selling a particular book. Also it depends if you have a affilate promo banner or small shop link ( you know those in 4-6 products at a time) amazon will automatically update that for you if there is not something on their current catalogue. I hope that helps answer your question.

I've never run into a dead link from Amazon, but I expect they have a good redirect system if someone tries to go to a page that doesn't exist anymore. No way are they going to let a single customer escape. And the customer would still get cookied with your affiliate id.

As far as I know, the links never go dead. The product page remains but, instead of a buy button, you get a note that the product is no longer available. Then Amazon goes to work selling you an the newer item or a related item.
