Is My Math Correct?

Suppose I put up a bunch of articles and they get 1000 views.
Assuming 30% CTR I will have 300 people to my landing/presell page.
Again assuming about 30% CTR I will have 100 hops.
Assuming 3% conversion I have 3 sales.

Alternatively I send directly to the vendor's page I will have 300 hops.
Assuming conversions of 1% I will have 3 sales!

Is this realistic or I am imagining things?

  • Your figures look about right but I think you'll find with a good landing page, you'll have fewer hops than direct linking but a higher conversion.

    • True Dat! You tell 'em sista! Sorry...

Ummmm...if you send them to an opt-in with an offer for a freebie where you can capture their email address in return for your little morsel of goodness you can sell to them 2...maybe 3 or 100 times! Assuming a 3% conversion rate on every email that you sent to your brand spankin new list, how many sales is that.....sorry, I can't do the math without taking off my pants
  • Figures are useless, but your math is correct. The bigger thing to keep in mind is that you can sell to the people through your landing page again, which you cant do with a direct link.
  • Close...
    1000 x .3 = 300
    300 x .3 = 90
    90 x .03 = 2.7

Are you assuming a 3% conversion as a worst-case scenario? Don't be afraid to tweak your copy and test, test, test on the layout of all of the pages you have control over to improve your conversion rate.

    • True Dat dude....I run about a 1% conversion rate overall with some product converting at about 4% and other that are complete....poop?...anyhow you are right about the conversion rate but you have to admit that by building a list you do hold better chance of converting.

I did direct linking for a while now and have found success with it but do see the need to build a list for many niches....not ALL niches but some niches. For instance...headaches...these folks aren't going to wait around for a week's worth of autoresponder messages...they want a cure asap...

  • You are logically correct, but think of it this way. Your landing page has 3% conversion. Tweak it, change it and play around with it a little. Get your conversion rate to 5%. Now, isnt that more sales?

On the other hand, you cant change the vendor's pages. I'd say your landing page is the most important factor for sales. Stick to it always.
