As said before you can use Microsoft Word. But if you don't have Microsoft word then you can write your ebook in any text editor you have then convert it to pdf using primo pdf. Its free and its simple

I have both MS Word and OpenOffice Writer. I prefer using OpenOffice Writer as it seems, to me, much easier to add certain elements to the layout design of ebooks. Plus add to that the fact that when you create clickable links in your PDF documents, they tend to "stick" better.

And, finally, with OpenOffice Writer, after you get your layout design worked out, all your images in place, and of course your links, you click the "PDF" button and it spits out exactly what you want....a great looking, link working PDF file.

Oh, and did I mention....OpenOffice Writer is free?

You might want to give it a try and download it, if you don't already have it

OpenOffice is great for free, and in certain situations I use it, but if you want a high powered software package that makes great cover graphics etc for a fraction of the price of some of the more expensive packages, I HIGHLY recommend Serif's PagePlus X4.

It's less than $100, and has all the frills that I need - You can even use it to publish hard copy books with offset margin capabilities. You can even design the cover with it.

Here is a link to it on Amazon (not an affiliate link - just a regular one):
      Amazon.com: PagePlusX4

Additionally their home website has some good info about it too, and I think you can try it free for a short test drive...

      Just my thoughts,

      Hi vishalduggal,

I use Adobe, and it is expensive. But it is so powerful too.

However, there are many good, free software available.
Just Google pdf converter. Let me do that for you.

When Microsoft came out with Office 97,and latter versions since then, they made it real easy to create pdfs.

      My best to you.

I used to use Open Office until someone on WF pointed out that MS Word now does it (I had it there in front of me and never knew ).

I now prefer word because I'm more used to using all of it's formatting tools etc.

I have to add my vote for Open Office. It's great!

Write your document, add images and links, export as PDF...done!

Simple and free, that's a combination that's hard to beat.

    All the best,
    Michael

If you have MS Office installed.. just go to save as and select *.pdf. If option *.pdf is not there, you can go to microsoft website and download the *.pdf add-on. It is as simple as that.

Honestly, you don't need a pdf creator if you use either Word 2007 or higher, or Open Office. Both will make PDFs for you. That's how I make my PDF reports.

    Have a great day.

I use Open Office. Its free and it is great. Have had no problems with it and i have been using the pdf function on it for over a year now.

After you download it for free, make a text document and you will see the "file" drop down menu in the top left corner. Scroll down and it will say (Export as PDF).

    Cheers

Open office is fantastic, but I have a copy of Adobe Acrobat Pro. It allows me to password protect my pdfs and also allows me to control the metadata in the doc.
