So I've starting making a Youtube Channel, and I've got a pretty good procedure for making videos now. What I don't quite see is how to get links. Do you pretty much need to tell people in the video about your url? Or are there other methods that work well too?

You can watermark your URL in your video, throughout the video. This might not look professional, but it shows your link throughout.

so in a way you are 'telling' them about your url, with the watermarked url.

At the end of the video have a call of action such as "for more action visit this link".

Checkout my channel, we get tons of YouTube traffic.

      YouTube - ‪csawyer's Channel‬‎

We use an annotation with our site URL throughout the ENTIRE video. We also place the URL in the description and AUDIBLY give them a call to action telling them to visit our website. Having the call to action in your audio is the best way.

Your videos are rather good. Keep it up!

Building your channel in Youtube is important, but be sure to always have a link in the description, or I should say URL. (no-Follow on YT) Put it first, then describe your video with keywords under the URL.

Here is a good example from my channel:
Check the drop down description area.

So about getting links - you want people referencing your tutorials, but the linking is different than with submitting an article. You actually don't do this for links, but for real traffic. In some ways it is better because your traffic is much more targeted as surfers are actually seeking you out.

They are able to do this by seeing your URL on YT, or your logo/video on other peoples sites who embed your video. The more embeds you get, the wider audience you are going to have, and the more successful channel (subscribers) you will have.

Getting embeds is great, but you need to protect your content, because thieves will rip it from YT and claim it as their own.

So make sure you have a Call-to-Action in your videos, saying "sign up here for more" for example. When you plan your CTA envision someone coming across your stuff for the first time on somebody else's' site, not YT.

Reference your website in the video a few times, or yes, a watermark will help (but I think they are horrible looking and easily scrubbable). The best option is to brand your tutorials with your logo and website theme throughout. You will again see how I do this in the video above.

One easy way for you to do this quickly it to design a background in powerpoint for your videos. Make it match your website scheme, and then place your actual screencast on top of the background while zooming in and out during the video. > Here is an example of what I mean >
      Hope that helps.

Hello. The idea of getting traffic from video portals works fine. I made a site of tutorials, based on win xp & 7 problems . Every step is explained on video tutorial and people always prefer to watch the video that to read a paper based tutorial

Video Marketing is excellent way to get traffic, even better when you get your video on Google Page One. I just start all my descriptions with my URL.

Mostly use tubinator or tubegetter to upload bulk videos accross 100 profiles.

Then pay someone to comment on popular videos and post video replys using my vid that is clearly watermarked and has ton's of links embedded.

Also helps to prepare a ** reason ** to go to your URL - market a freebie that will compel your viewer to click through, otherwise they don't really have any reason to go back to your site do they?

I see this missed all of the time - they give their URL in the video and in the description, but so what!

Even if I like the video I am far more likely to view another related video than I am to click back to their website UNLESS they give me a reason

Definitely. Like if one uploaded a song to youtube as a video, the end of the video should say "go to URL for more free music "etc

    Very nice ideas guys...

I've been using YouTube for a few weeks now, and I've seen SOME increase in traffic, but just barely. I'm having trouble getting views on the videos though.

Of course, I'm not really going to long tail keywords so far.

    Think I should be?

Totally awesome tips from everybody. I got the url in the description now, and have made 3 video. I'm really happy with the results, and need to follow up with a few of your tips still. I immediately feel like there will be a cumulative effect. If someone likes the first video they watch, they will likely want to watch more, and maybe I can even recommend other videos to watch at the end of each clip. I'm clearly getting some views now, and over time, I'm sure I will have thousands. Thanks for everyone's help.
