Can I do anything with my existing website of non-buyers?

I have had one website that started it all for me on doing something online that makes money. This began 7 years ago and I really haven't done much with it.

Now I am all about IM and making consistent income to supplement a recent job loss and subsequent pay cut at my new job.

The problem? My niche/website of Inmate Pen Pals is not a money maker, buying consumers, etc. I have a mailing list of 19,000 emails over the years, but obviously many are dead, but in the last year I have about 5,000 emails.

Avg Unique Visitors: 180
Avg Page Views per day: 966

I have in the past only used Adsense as my means of online monetization. Only recently have I added one niche related ClickBank item and well it does not attract many hops or convert very well to say the least.

My questions would be...
  1. Can I utilize my existing mailing list to promote other IM sites and endeavors?
  2. How can I leisurely attract curiosity in other topics than prison or inmates?
  3. Am I missing any products that this niche of family, friends and inmates themselves could be offered that I have not thought about?

    Seeing your site would definitely help everyone here help you.

    But I think, that if you've had a site for 7 years and you have a loyal mailing list, and get 190 unique visitors a day, your best bet would to throw some Adsense image ads on there and then CREATE YOUR OWN PRODUCT.

    With a loyal following like that, a product launch could work wonders for you.

      As posted in the OP, Adsense is what I have been using from the beginning and it has always been text ads. Could you elaborate why you feel image ads would be a 'best bet' to add?

      As for creating a product... Any ideas? Keep in mind my difficult niche readership. I have had ideas of making some offline products for the inmates themselves to purchase, but that would be branching into a whole other industry I am not very savvy on...book publishing.

    I'm certainly no expert on penology but I can't imagine that there are many people who would want to get up close and personal with someone who has managed to get themselves an address at the crowbar hotel.

    Sure, other folks like them may be interested but I don't know how you'd monazite your list. Though I do have an idea for something you might try.

    Go for the sympathy appeal. Change the site to one where you make a case for people who have made mistakes. Ask for folks who might be willing to write to lonely and repentant inmates. Then set up an info center where you could provide addresses of prisons where inmates would like to receive letters.

    Your appeal would need to make the case that your efforts take time and work. You could have a PayPal donation button in place to accept donations from sympathetic patrons. That's about the best I can do to monazite this site. Good luck.

    Yeah, as I have found, not too many products really satisfy the problems and needs of an inmate or their families and friends. Have thought about making a book section where people can purchase from amazon.com and have it delivered direct to the prison since that is the ONLY way they can receive books.
