Flippa Sale - but using Paypal

Ok, what can go WRONG if someone who wins my auction on Flippa and wants to pay via Paypal?
They want to pay the entire Funds via Paypal.
I think they can do a charge back from credit card used with paypal, and they can maybe dispute.
So how can I protect myself.
If this turns out to be a Scam, can Flippa just give him the money back and they end up keeping the Domain, Site, etc...?

This is a HIGH end Site which sold on Flippa ($x,xxx)

Ok, I think I may have answered my own question and concern.
Basically I need to document everything and just be prepared for the worst so when it does happen I can send paypal the information about a possible dispute, or refund.

Maybe also ship the site files etc...

Or skip all that prep and be much more sure by using escrow.

For a high end site, I would use escrow.com no matter what the buyer wanted. They can file a Paypal dispute, a chargeback, and if they already have the domain and sites files, there's nothing you can do about it and Flippa won't do anything but ban them. Actually, there's nothing Flippa can do.

One way to try to protect yourself via Paypal is to get the address from the buyer and ship the site to him on DVD via certified mail. That way, it isn't a digital download and you have proof of shipment.

    • @Suzanne:

Great tip! I would have never thought about putting the files on a DVD and then shipping them out. That's brilliant. I may have to blog about this on my site. I'll give you full credit for the idea, of course

As others have stated, I ALWAYS use Escrow.com or SafeFunds.com for any deals over $1,000. Having said that, I know a guy who sold a site for $9,000 on Flippa and they used PayPal without any issues. They did, however, vet each other out quite thoroughly and there was a high level of trust between the two.

      @DaWarrior:

Sorry to hear about your ordeal - especially on your first flip. That stinks. Just be happy it happened now before you started sending stuff to the buyer. If it were my site, I would definitely contact the next highest bidders in line and ask for a private deal. Then if you have no takers, then just relist it. I would also shoot an email to the guy who runs idontgiveascam.com about this buyer to rat him out.

I would use Escrow.com if it's a transaction large enough to make you lose sleep over if you got screwed.

I am really UPSET, but will get over it.
The Freaking Buyer who ended up being a NEW flippa registered user the same day they won the auction, will now not communicate with me.
This was a high selling site, with multiple bidders and my worst fear came before listing the auction, FRAUD!!!

So I will let Flippa know about the possible Fraud.
And can I ask a bidder I will sell to them since the false winner?
I would hate to relist and wait....

Why did you accept his/her bid if you saw it was a new account?

Against Flippa's TOS to sell privately, but if you have bidders I would contact them and see if they would pay the price your false bidder made.

Happens a fair bit on Flippa, just need to do your buyer due diligence first.
