For Amazon Affiliates only:165 clicks but no sales, please help!

Hey warriors,I was just wondering if it is normal to have like 165 clicks and still no sales?

I would also like to know how many sales do you get per 100 clicks.

I heard that most people(95%) have a high level of security on their browsers and therefore the tracking cookie doesnt get installed,is it true?

    Hi

I'm not sure about the security on browsers and the tracking cookie not being installed. 165 visitors isn't a huge amount - you have to be patient.

Are you in a market where the products are highly priced? If so, it might be the kind of product that people have to think about. The 24 hour tracking cookie isn't long so you need to pick markets where people will buy pretty quickly.

Conversion rates will vary from niche to niche. Also, it will depend on what you are using to promote Amazon. Are you using text links? Are you using the aStore? Banners? Widgets?

Try different things and see which options convert the best and then replace all the ones that aren't converting with the better options.

It takes time to build a successful online business.

    Thanks
    Eleanor

    Josh,

You keep asking us the same thing over and over again. No one can answer your questions without seeing your website - can you post it here? I'm sure then a lot of members here would be happy to offer advice...

I heard that most people(95%) have a high level of security on their browsers and therefore the tracking cookie doesnt get installed,is it true?
    And nope, that's not true.

    Josh,

I am going to assume you are talking about actual click throughs to Amazon and not simply "impressions" from your website.

A lot of factors can play with this but I will go with the most likely first....

The product may not be a good match for the keyword. That is what most people are going to tell you and if you think that's the case, then start shuffling different offers....

Just 165 clicks to amazon is not enough clicks to warrant anything one way or another. At times, I will experience nothing for 200+ clicks and then make 7 sales back to back.

Your better bet is to sit on it, watch the ctr/conversion rate and see what other products people are buying when they buy them.

And if they don't buy anything after a month, well, then start looking at different products.

You cant seriously think that you are going to sell a $2000 product with just over 100 clicks with a hub page in one of the most competitive niches online do you? Your content better be rock star level if you think you're gonna convert like that.

I am going after exact product names, therefore it should convert.I am ranking no 5 for that exact product name and this traffic is highly targeted.

    Hey Josh,

    I should add something here......

Looks like to me, you are looking at product payout rather than product conversion. And if you are doing this, you are doing what a gazillion other marketers are doing.

So, you tell me what's worth more?.....

I sell 5 products per 100 clicks that are 50 bucks and have, overall, 30,000 impressions. Doing the math, that would be 1,500 products sold and I have moved into the 8% payout tier. I would make roughly 6k a month.

You sell 1 product out of 1,000 clicks for your $2,000 product. You sell 30 items at 6% and make $120 per sale. You make 3.6k a month.

Now, I know that those numbers are skewed and unrealistic but part of amazon's challenge for affiliates is to raise your margin by increasing the number of sales so that you can get higher payouts. And selling high priced items in which the conversion rate will be naturally lower (because price does have sway) is not exactly the best way to increase your margin.

Plus, when every other affiliate is trying to sell LCD TV's and other high priced items, it just makes sense to go the other way....wouldn't you agree?

    They zig....you zag.....

I also wrote something about this about a week or so ago that you may be interested in-

I do both...but as you may know (or will find out soon enough), the more targeted the keyword (aka- product name), the better chance you have of converting without an ass-ton of traffic.

Watch your analytics for trending long tail keywords. You should also look at other formats to improve your overall ROI (like building a list) and raising your margin and visitor value. While many people would claim that an affiliate eCommerce site and building a list don't go together, if you brainstorm hard enough, you can figure out what is most important to someone looking for a TV (**hint** it ain't an ebook, report or video). I won't hold your hand and just spit out those details but if you are creative enough, you can figure out how to increase the visitor value to your site.

Watch the big companies and study their models......don't look at what other affiliates are doing because chances are very good most of whom you will be watching will be in the same boat as you....

If you are promoting products in a hub you need to find related products that are in the impulse buying range. $10-$20. The only "high ticket" items I have ever been able to move successfully as an affiliate are high heel shoes, and even then anything of $70 doesn't sell well.

165 clicks is nothing in the grand scheme of things. If you are working within the HubPage format (which is great btw) volume is your key to success. The more hubs you have the more clicks to Amazon you will get.
