If you could build 1 money making website...what would it be?

OK all,

While taking inventory in what I have available recently I came to a realization. Why am I still messing around with $1 a day AdSense sites?

Then it kind of hit me. I'm a programmer. I have the resources to put together anything I would like, along with a lot of personal code libraries and a common code base to do it quickly. So the question then became "what should I be doing?"

With that in mind I'm going to ask you all the same question. If time was the only resource required, what kind of website would you build more of to maximize your money?

I'm looking at things like web based software tools (keyword research, etc), social networking (dating sites), or the usual info sites like ebook sales letters, AdSense or conduit, etc.

If time and effort were the only thing required to get yourself into a project, what would you pick?

    Make a site showing off your skills and then sell your skills to people... advertise everywhere especially in this forum!

    Then you're just working for clients instead of yourself, no better than having a boss IMO.

    As a programmer, you have the ability to create software products. So do so. Having your own products to sell, and getting affiliates to promote them for you, is a great business to own.

    You build once and make money the rest of that product's life cycle.

    So to answer your question, create a product that answers some need in the market, and build a website to sell that product. I do it whenever I can find a need I can fill. My latest WordPress plugin, for example (the WSO in my signature)... spent two days making and polishing it in August, sold 375 copies so far for over $45,000 in profit.

    You can also do software-as-a-service. I do so with my W3Counter web stats site. It's a competitor to Google Analytics. It took a lot more time to program than a WordPress plugin, but it's recurring income I can count on every month with no extra work.

    If I could program (yeah, right) and design half decently I'd go and build a social networking clone, a la Facebook / Myspace.

    At the moment, bar Ning really... there isn't a half decent one out there, and there is just so much potential for those kinds of community sites. You could develop them and flip, or sell them to other marketers, whatever you wanted really.
