Attention: Newbies... Here's the secret to Internet Marketing...

Not sure if I'm imagining this, but there seem to be a whole lot more "I'm new - how do I start" or "been online for 4 years but nothing works" threads these days...

So I thought I'd share my secret to internet marketing...

ready?

Here it is...

This is a business not a hobby

That's it! It really is that simple!

Any business requires, research, time, dedication, focus and yes, even some money.

Once you get that straight IN YOUR HEAD you'll be well on your way.

Until you get that straight IN YOUR HEAD - the rest is pointless.

So... when you've got your mind set right - then pick one system, work it, stick to it, and don't buy any other systems.

But please keep this in mind...

...there are heaps of people who will say they've been online for 2, 3, 4 or more years - yet they are looking for the way they can make "quick money" in IM.

Yet if they'd started 2, 3, 4 or more years ago with a business plan (a system), worked it diligently every day, put in the hours and the money when required, stopped buying every get-rich-quick-bs out there - they'd be sitting pretty, living the IM life now.

So for those of you who buy a product, read it, decide it doesn't work (without really trying it), ask for a refund - then rinse and repeat that process - STOP IT!!

There is no secret - just a business

It took me 3 years to learn the secret - you should learn it now.

DISCLAIMER:
Yes I know there are those who are quite happy with IM as a hobby or added income - this rant of mine obviously isn't for you.

So when do you plan to stop learning and start doing? (not trying to be smart or rude - just asking)

You have to make that transition at some stage - may as well be now eh.

Plus folks... once you do get started - give yourself a constraint - a time limit that you have to achieve something - anything. Give yourself a time limit and if you get side tracked - pull yourself back in line. Pretend your life depends on it. And don't try to make everything perfect - just done is a great start.

  • That is very true, and it's funny how a lot of the people who promote their own "get-rich-quick bs" would have you believe that you can get rich by treating your business as a hobby.

I launched my own product last month and you have no idea how many PM's I got asking if my method was guaranteeing quick money or if it was "easy."

I probably hindered my sales because I was honest and told anyone who asked those two questions that if they wanted quick easy money to continue going to their JOB.

Waking up, going to work, coming home and enjoying your life is easy. There is nothing difficult about it. You may not like it, but Building a business it not easy and honestly sometimes its not a whole hell of a lot of fun when you are down in the trenches fighting to survive.

I set out my financial goals when I first started this journey several months ago. I met those goals within two months because as NewbieDiary pointed out, I had a plan. And it didn't change. There was no plan b. There was plan A and I worked, and worked, and damnit worked some more to achieve the goal I set out for myself.

So glad you by passed the 3 year "research" stage

It took me 3 years to figure that out but I got there in the end. I started my business last year and made over $70k in 7 months - and ONLY did that cause I treated it as a business, worked it full time and set my focus and goals. Plus I learned to stop buying all them bs products (and the good ones) unless they directly helped my business.

AND I created a new email account and deleted all my old email accounts - so all the 4 hundred million gazillion emails from all those lists I was on are now floating somewhere in limbo - never again to be read! THAT makes a massive difference!

Yeah I am not on any lists. I have purchased WSO here and there that I felt was in line with how I wanted to achieve my goals, but simply put when I started this journey I was bound determined to make money with Adsense... and thats exactly what I did.

Of course I discovered this amazing thing called Affiliate Marketing along the way, but I am very proud of the fact that I earned my first Adsense check just five weeks after starting. Even more so when I see many come on this board and say they have been trying for years or months and have barely made $10.

Tenacity and persistence are key, and a lot of hard work. It's cliche, but if you fail to plan than you are planning to fail. On the flip side of that token, if all you do is plan your business night and day without ever taking action you will quickly find yourself in the "Dreamer" category instead of the "Doer" one.

          OP,

It's one of those things where you can't "talk" or "explain"
why treating it like a business is vastly important to make
any amount of money doing ANYTHING that has potential
          to make money.

I still remember clearly being one of those procrastinators
who would read threads like this 3-4 years ago and go "ah
ha!", and I would do the same thing I was doing anyways.

The secret I found is this:

No matter how hard we try, and love our fellow man to help
them get on their feet...we ALL know that treating this like
a business intuitively IS the key...but there is NOTHING...no
thread...no book...no audio cd...no video that will make the
switch in OUR heads to DECIDE to do things differently.

Sure, it's nice to be AWARE of it. But few people who do break
from the "I just want to make money" habit into building a biz
          will take your advice...if ever.

It's a decision I made to treat this like a business before I made
the money I always dreamed of having.

But...I had to come to that conclusion for...myself. And It will
be the same for all others here who are scratching their heads
still trying to figure it all out. Many won't...and fewer will think
back and go "wow...it WAS a decision I made...".

If you want to spend 3-4 years learning, that's fine. Spend 4 hours a day doing that.....BUT spend 8 hours a day working on YOUR business as well.

I think the label "newbie" is a comfort zone for some people. They worry about fear of failure and fear of success. They look for motivation and complain family doesn't support their dreams.

The main fear seems to be a fear of doing something wrong, of making a mistake - and we all have mistakes. You can't make mistakes until you do something. You can't learn from your mistakes until you make them.

Im thrilled to find somebody on the right track for once and not selfishly focusing on their personal growth. However I want to add two things. First of all nothing about IM is secret it is a regular business and ideas are generated and implemented. These ideas aren't secret weapons but ways of business and anybody can learn them or find a substitute for them and be successful. If we continue saying everything is a secret people will spend and waste money on the exciting idea of a secret. We have to think business like and not cool, trendy, fun & games. THIS IS REALITY not Second Life!

My second point is that the initial research should be approached from out of the box and viewed from afar. Don't jump right into the community but watch and learn and then get your feet wet. Like this you will be headstrong from the start and you won't get lost in the sea of marketing junk, lies, and hype.
To the success of all marketers.

The moment I hired employees. People started depending on me. I was good at this internet thing. I made a bit of cash here in there few thousand $$$ but nothing consistent.

The moment I set working hours for them -- I have NONE since I work like a dog. well nothing set in stone. I own the thing.

The moment you sit down and check your expenses and time you spent on stuff. That's the time you're in business.

Simple really. you are in business if you profit. Now how big the profit is dictates how successful you are (profit is net income just in case you're like me when I started that if i made $5k and spent $4k i thought i made $5k)

here's a classic thing you should remember. Money is cheaper than time. I need to repeat this 'Money is cheaper than time, but not ALWAYS.'

See money you can acquire. even if you're super lazy or stupid then you won $500M in the lotto. you're rich.

Time. Once it's gone, it's gone. so for those of you who are too serious in biz, gotta take time off too, smell the flowers.

Agree thoroughly. I spent 3 years learning, and no time doing. Now i'm doing things, i'm starting to make money.

I find, it's a switch from glory seeking, or just doing.

When you want to be this hot shot internet marketer, that makes money whilst he sleeps, you have this idea in your head that you don't have to do any work. Besides maybe a day setting up some extravegant method, that'll do everthing for you.

And then when you're faced with work, your stuck.

When I decided, that although not glamorous or as exciting, small incremental steps, would take me where I wanted to go. Then I started making money.

Almost effortlessly. Not in terms of hours, but in terms of how little thought it required to get the next sale, progress the business.

It's not rocket science, sitting down and just getting things done, even half baked, is way better than spending forever perfection, that will never come.

The only way you can lose is if you quit.

If you struggle = you learn a valuable lesson
If you succeed = you make money.

Everyone is different and we all have to pay [money and time] for the skills and mindset shifts that have not taken place in our head yet.

    Its a win win.

    Excellent post!!!!!!

I was an entrepreneur for several years before I started IM so I automatically treated it as a business.

I'm still new but am shocked by how many people don't get that part of it. It's the foundation on which to build.

    And......it's far from easy!!!!!

Awesome post! I haven't been doing IM for very long but I'm do affiliate marketing using a system from one of Rob Fore's WSO's. I completely agree with that bit about buying an ebook, quickly reading it, deciding it doesn't work, and asking for a refund. If you don't try a system and can't give it 3+ months to work its magic then you're not cut out for IM. It's not all instant success and gratification here. Anyone who wants to make something of them will work their butt off and put in the time, money, and effort it takes to truly see success. Anyone who wants to throw $50 at an ebook and except to start generating an income when they finish the last sentence needs continue buying these products (although they should consider the idea that it's not the ebook that doesn't work, it's them) because it's just money the pockets of real IMers.

Nice post. I have been researching for IM nearly half year now. During this stage, I could say that I bought everything that I could, read ebooks, books, forums, etc to find out how people are actually earning online. It pisses me off to see other guys are making money, advertise on their site and say "You don't have to work. I have invent a system so that you could follow, live free and earn money". I can say those stuff are just garbage for me. It can tricks newbie who started to learn making money but everyone who actually makes money in the IM world will realize how much effort, money to put in. There's no such thing as free when you start your business, you need to have expenses, you need to spend time, effort work regularly everyday, you need to have contacts, friends, services etc to outsource your project.

I just want to throw my thoughts on this out there. The guys who claim this don't have to go work a normal day job. They came up with a system and it worked very well. Especially when very few people were using it. But once they start marketing that idea then the system gets a bit saturated and you have to compete with others using the same system. The system may have started out as amazing, but after it's been sold thousands of times it just because a good/decent system. At that point it needs to be scaled up more than before to bring in the profits the guy who came up with it claims. Also, they make a good amount of money just selling their system as well. I'd say that helps them too.

so what, that program that ive just bought - and added to the collection of 17000 other ones - that if i just press that big red button i won't get rich? no come on, your kidding right.....

and as several people have stated already. Pick one thing and stick to it, hammer it, focus on it, and if after a month it hasnt worked, work out why? try different angles. There are many systems out there, but you have to find what works for you and how to work it for you. What I do and how I do it may be different to how you do things, so you need to be able to adapt.

I think a lot of the reason why people give up and dont succeed is because of the amount of rubbish that is sold in WSO's or random other 'products'

It is true that just by reading these forums alone you will proabably learn everything you need to, to be able to earn well online.
