Thoughts on websites which solely consist of an Opt In Form?

I was thinking about building a website which only consists of an Opt In form. But does this affect the quality of your list? Is it better to capture leads without really enticing them to opt in?

I can't decide whether to build a proper website, and only capture people who are really interested. Or just build a one page opt in form, and get numbers.

    It is better to build a full fledged squeeze page. Add a nice video to it for good measure.

    Put the video on the left and the opt in form on the right. The eye naturally moves from left to right.

    You need to give them a reason to give up thier information. Sell the sizzle.

    You are always going to get a better conversion rate with a squeeze page than with a "proper" site.

    Personally I would set up a squeeze page and keep it simple.

    Videos are good but I have found that my squeeze pages convert better with text, however my sales pages convert better with a video.

    Don't know why that's just my personal experience.

    You want a good headline, perhaps ask the reader a question, something like;
    "Do You Want to Harness the Money Making Power of Twitter?"

    Then a subline like;
    Then You Need This $17 Report, Completely FREE
    ...........For a Limted Time Only

    (This gives it a sense of urgency)

    Regarding the opt-in box I only ask for the email address.

    I know a lot of people say that if you have the subscriber name it makes it more personal and helps build the relationship.

    But I can tell you from experience that many people put in stupid names or swear words and then when you send to them you are sending mails like
    "Get Your Free Download D*ck Head!

    Doesn't look good.

    Here is a link to the squeeze page I have just described,
    CLICK HERE

    I reset the stats on this page a few days ago and so far it has had
    1899 views and 1426 submissions that's a conversion rate of 75.1%

    There is no way you are going to get that with a website.

    I have to say that is pretty damn good conversion rate, most of my others are somewhere between 45-58%

    Regarding the quality of the traffic, its better to get a subscriber that you can build a relationship with and hopefully help them to build their business, than not having anyone to market to at all.

    Once you have their details you can mail to them forever.

    Hope this helps.

    Oh yes, almost forgot.

    Also make sure when they sign up you aren't just sending them through to the default thank you page from aweber or who ever you AR provider is.

    Make sure you monetize it, either with a product of your own or an affiliate product that is offering a free product.

    Cheers

    Anthony
