Taking Payments - the options

Guys

Most options for taking payments on a website involve clicking through to a shopping cart service. This gives little control over the actual cart (or payment) page, wehre it's good to have a little copy to close the sale, for example.

Does anyone know of what options there are for geeting credit card payment fields right on my own website (aside from actually getting a programmer to do me some API codign for me)?

Are there any options out there?

It sounds like you are either looking for a merchant hosted solution, or a customisable gateway.

I seem to remember that one of the PayPal options, like PayPal Pro could do this. Also I know that with Secure Pay you can have a customisable payment page.

      Hi

It is not clear what product or service you are aiming to sell.

That being said are you sure sure you couldn't achieve a good deal of control over the look and feel of your website whilst using the simple Paypal solution.

You are able to configure the buttons to by your images and use their payment gateway and on success or failure you can link to a given page on your website.

So you just need to build the structure to allow the correct values to be passed to Paypal.

Let me know how you get on

You could also use Mal's Ecommerce for taking payments and adding a shopping cart to your site, I used it once upon a time and it was extremely easy and cheap (no coding, or anything even close to it was required).

Depends on how much volume you're planning on doing.

We use UltraCart (Free) for a shopping Cart, Powerpay for the merchant account, and Authorize.net for payments, but we do a ton of volume.

If you're gonna do over $30k in a short period of time, I WOULD NOT go with paypal because there's a 99.99% chance they will freeze you.

Thanks guys - some good tips - but what I'm talking about is the option to actually put credit card payment fields on my own page. That's very different from a "buy" button that takes me through to another website (either a shopping cart site, Mal's ecommerce, or PayPal's own site).

Yes PayPal Website Payments Pro offers this option, as do many payment gateways. But these all require a programer to implement the API routines for my website to communicate with the gateway.

What I'm trying to find is if there is another option, or service, where I can put those payment fields right on my own page, for example at the bottom of the sales letter, WITHOUT having to hire a programer.

    Is there anything out there?

    Thanks,

    JP

      Hi John,

One thing to consider is the established credibility of an online payment service like PayPal, et al. People who are being asked to provide credit card information need a level of trust that you may not be able to build up overnight.

It's a trade-off to be sure, but don't discount having a well known payment service make it easier for people to furnish sensitive information and hence allow for conversions that may slip away due to fear of the unknown.

With a shopping cart you can put the order form on your own page but

    1. you need to hook up an SSL so the page is secured so if the order form is on your sales page, your sales page URL would be https:// not http://

    2. you'll need a merchant account and a payment processor so you can process the credit card payments

For the typical online buyer, they know and trust Paypal. Unless you have a very good reason not to use them, go with what works.

I understand what you want, but in my experience Paypal seems to convert very well (but I don't do $30K, either).

You can do this using 1ShoppingCart.com and/or Nanacast.com

I recommend having the following on the checkout page.

    1. eCover of your product.
    2. Security symbols (HonestEonline.com example, doesn't matter WHO just get them even if they're not known at all. Go nuts with this).
    3. Testimonials. (3-4 testimonials on the right hand side.

It will increase your conversions like crazy .

Yes! That's why I want the payment fields on my own page. So, I can do that with 1ShoppingCart? Without having to employ a progamer to set up API?

Thanks guys - all great information!
