What is the average conversion of contacts to sales?

I will be doing my first launch in oct and was curious if anyone can give some feedback on average conversion ratio of purchase.

I'm using PLF (to the letter) and will utilizing other folks lists, as I do not have one of my own.

My product will be $417, or there about, and I'll be offering 52% or $217 to selling affiliates.

By comparison to other similar products, I will grossly over delivering @ my rate of $417

My goal is to sell 500 units.

With that in mind, I want to try to figure out how many opt-ins I need in order to hit my mark.

Any ideas?

Many thanks!

It's a high end product so I am no too sure about the conversions. Normal lower end products are supposed to convert at 1 out of 100, but realistic conversions are as low as 1 out of 500 for some.

That said, I have gotten some 1 out of 20 and even 1 out of 10 conversions for some of my lower end products and WSO's to my list.

It is probably all down to the sales page and the quality of the offer. Also the quality of the traffic that you will be generating.

Ed Dale (a respected IM "guru") says that for him personally it's been about 1 in 200.

I suppose it's all about testing and tweaking.

As other have said, it varies for any number of reasons. For me with a product of that price, I'd be looking to start at around 1 in 200 and would strive to drive it to 1 in 100.

What's more important for me is visitor value.

For example, with price changes, upsells and cross-sells, you can increase your visitor value, making more profit even when the conversion rate stays the same. This can make quite a difference to your bottom line.

    Cheers,

Sorry, but there is no such thing as an 'average conversion' rate.

There may be an average conversion for you, for your product, etc. but there is no overall average conversion rate.

There are way too many factors involved and each case is different.

    - Type of market
    - type of product
    - quality of your list
    - quality of the traffic
    - how targeted the traffic is
    - personal trust level
    - how ofter you pitch them
    - if they've bought products before
    - Your image

It is not the size of the list, or the amount of traffic, it is the quality that counts.

Someone else's conversion rates really don't apply to your own situation. That's because conversion rates vary, depending on a variety of factors including, but not limited to traffic quality, effectiveness of sales copy, and the viability of the offer being presented.

Thanks everyone for the sound advice! This helps. I assumed that it would be in the 100-200 range, but wasn't quite sure. My goal is to capture 100,000 contacts.

Now - off to get some opt ins

You've got a very vague idea about this, and that should be enough, because, as mentioned, there are too many variables for us to give you useful numbers.

Ultimately, just focus on improving traffic, measure the conversion rate, and then that number at least has some utility to you so that if you branched out to affiliate market a similar product with several similar variables between them, you have some vague idea about how the new project could convert.

For sure. Vague is fine...I am just looking for a target. THat way, I have a target in mind for contacts, given I want to earn X.

      Thanks again!

The important thing is don't ever be satisfied with your conversion ratio. Regardless of how good it is, you should always be striving to improve it. That's why testing is so important. In fact, testing is crucial to your overall business success. I can't emphasize that enough.

Test various headlines in your sales copy. Test different colors on your website. Test different advertising mediums like offline magazines and direct mail. Test different mailing lists. Experiment with different font sizes and styles. But don't just test blindly. Closely monitor and record your results. This will insure your findings are as accurate as possible.

It depends for a lot of different offers, but the only way to find out is to test and see.

    Good luck!
