Did the recession affected the IM market's glory ?

When I came across this article I thought that here people are always talking about earning truckloads of money. Although the after-effect of recession has disappeared(almost) from the globe, the article forced me to re-think about my perception(about recession).

Also when the income of falls people would give very less priority to IM products and will give top priority to their basic needs rather than buying IM products which is bad for all the IM guys.

I don't want to comment more since I belong to an other country which was not too much affected by recession and survived easily from the clutches of recession.

So what's your take on the current state of affairs in the IM arena ?

Did your IM income increase when compared to 2009 ?

Did recession affected your IM business ?

I'm asking about the middle class which forms the bulk of any developed/developing country which is also mentioned in the article.

i don't think IM would ever lose any of its glory in most niches. just look at the IM niche alone, its worth over $100 million, people will always be looking for ways to make money from their homes or online. recession or not, as long as the internet is around so wil Internet marketing.

But for people to make money there should be a buyer, I'm talking about the purchasing power of buyers.

in a recession, business opportunities actually increase in sales, not decline. people are looking since their is not a lot of security in more mainstream jobs and people are figuring out WTF they should do.

with that said, their are plenty of people with money and the effects of the recession on affiliates has yet to be seen

My businesses have actually grown stronger year over year for the last 3 years. However, I have worked hard to follow-up with and nurture leads a lot more as well as really tweak my offers in order to keep conversions healthy. My prospects and customers are definitely more discerning with their dollars now than in years past, but they're still spending.

If you take your own time to analyze your sales performance you will(most probably) find that the % decrease in spending when compared to the golden years.

An interesting article. Reminds me of when my grandfather had to retire finally at age 76 and they sold their big ole country house because they wouldn't be able to afford the property taxes on his social security. Made me sad to think he worked for 50+ years in concrete of all things only to retire and be forced to sell his most valued possession.

What I have seen is hard to pinpoint, there are a few niches I am in which definitely decreased on conversions so far this year without losing much of the traffic the site is used to. I want to say which niches but I'm not going to lol. Things that were more...luxuries I guess is the best way to put it. The need niches I am in have a steady rise though. Could be due to some of the new techniques and content I have been adding to them though, probably is actually.

People are definitely paying more attention to where they spend, which actually is a big part of the problem with the economy coming back. The luxury spending is a big part of the American economy and needs to be there to maintain a bunch of different companies nationwide.

I still do not see the light at the end of the tunnel to be quite honest and fear for the future of many of my friends who are clueless or not interested in learning what I do but yet they are jobless. Lots of the "economy getting better" news is from people's unemployment running out.

Not sure how the whole country is but I know in my area things are still bad and the jobs which come available are getting 1000 or more people coming in to fill out applications. One job fair held in my area had 6,000 people attend, it broke the record for the 12 year annual job fair by 3,000 attendants, that is crazy.

I am yet to get into selling IM guides and programs but I would imagine there has been an increase in sales with people trying to survive. Seems logical but I do not know personally.

I wouldn't say that the recession affected the IM at all, to be honest I reckon it actually improved the IM, because more people, especially in the middle class realize that they need to make more money to "survive" the recession. Therefore a lot of people started their own online business and tried to balance their losses from their actual jobs.

Business software is bad since Lehman failed. I've now moved into niches where folk won't cut back on spending in - i.e. relationships and health.
