Article Marketing Debate: Is Article Marketing Dying as the Use of Video Soars?

What do you think? Is video marketing replacing article marketing or are they just two tools you can use to get traffic and referals?

Not replacing, no, at least not yet. There are still far too many people that have difficulty with video (dial-up users, for example). Plus there are a lot of people who would rather have something they can print out to read offline.

I think they are two tools and I don't see either one replacing the other.

Well, i dont think that video can outweigh article marketing, its just like saying people should stop reading and only learn by watching videos

I agree with TMG, I don't see article marketing anytime soon for several reasons. Many people are more text-friendly and can relate to words better than video demonstrations. Also, the content relevancy of an article can easily be checked and indexed, whereas that's not at all possible with a video.

There are a myriad of technical reasons as well, as TMG stated such as: internet speed and reliability issues.

I do think video is making a bigger impact, but the written word will never lose its power in the online marketplace. The smart play is incorporating both into your traffic strategies. I use both to build my mailing lists primarily. The visitors you get from both article and video marketing are just about the best you could ever hope to get. They're pre-sold on not just the info you provide, but on YOU (if you do it right). That's very powerful!

We all have to adapt to our audience's changing preferences. Clearly, more and more are looking to video for what articles used to have exclusive domain over. Fortunately, it's really easy - even for technotards like me - to learn to use basic screen capture video software. And anyone can get a YouTube account.

I don't think the article marketing is dying. But I do like to watch video showing how exactly to do something. I have to admit that, when I read some useful software or program, even wordpress plugin, but I am not sure how to use it. I always find video from YouTube to get more details.

Yes, just as TV has replaced the radio :-p They are different medias, so I dont think one will replace the other. Having just started using video, it augments my traffic for the same keywords, so it isn't replacing anything.

    It's up to Google!

What I do see is more widgets and exceptions when you do a google search.

Nowadays your tradtional route to #1 in Google can have competitors from:

    Google Shopping
    Google News
    Videos
    Latest Twitter Feeds
    Images
    Local Results

    etc.

So many other ways to get into the top 10 of Google other than articles.

But still the majority of results are web pages and it is the text on that page that counts (as well as the backlinks of course).

I don't look for videos in search results except for a how-to demo.

In fact, I won't click a Yahoo headline that is a video - too many BAAADD experiences with the ad playing just fine and the video of what they promised either never starting or starting & stopping.

Sure, they'll get that figured out "someday"

But remember what they teach you in article marketing, PEOPLE SCAN

How can you "scan" a video?

Think about all those IM guru's doing video that starts our driving in their car.

Tell me you don't feel they wasted your time goofing around until they finally got to the meat of the video - if indeed there even was any value in the video.

    My 4 cents (I try to over-deliver!)

    Regards,
    PCRoger.

Tony Blake once told me that some people enjoy to read, while others enjoy to watch...

He said that one will never replace another, as long as some people still prefer to read copy, rather than to watch videos... I happen to be one of those who still prefers to read...

He said the point in using both is to reach both audiences, those who like to read and those who don't like to read...

The video audience may be larger, but I would not bet on it...

With the latest stats showing still 26-million US users still relegated to dial up, a smart marketer shouldn't put all his eggs in the video basket.

Unfortunately, it looks like most of them have already abandoned the non-video ship.

Until Google develop a way of indexing the content of a video, no.

And even then, I doubt it.

The written word has been around for centuries. Why would it go away now?

I just wrote about this on my blog. I actually did some article marketing and some video marketing. Here's a quick breakdown of what I've seen over the last 3 months.

13 Articles on EzineArticles produced 822 page views and 62 clicks.

4 Videos on Youtube produced 221 views (I didn't track these clicks but there were some)

I feel like videos may get more views, but articles also have the ability to create backlinks, get published in ezines, reposted on blogs, etc.

But, like TMG said, the two are not in competition with each other. They are separate methods that will both be viable marketing tools.

I think article marketing will always be around, I guess there'll just be new ways of exhibiting articles as the internet and other forms of traditional media progress.

I can't imagine Video replacing another medium, despite being some really good video programs like animoto and viddler. I see so many videos on youtube that are really poor quality due to lack of preparation and people tripping over there words. added to this, not everyone wants to see a stranger staring out of the screen pretending to be your friend. Article marketing in many ways stays on the right side of the familiarity line and are open to more people getting it right first time.

Put the articles inside the videos, and the videos inside the articles. People will always want to read, that will never change. If articles are going do die, why hasn't the 70% text based WF died?

Gee, the last time I turned on my car radio, there was sound coming out...

Even people who prefer one format over another will use the alternate format if the content or the reason is compelling enough.

Once the tech side of indexing video is down, we'll have to wade through pages of garbage video and garbage articles. What we really need is a digital landfill...

Article marketing and video marketing can go hand in hand.

I really think that article marketing is not dying off. You can have it both ways.

When you write and article, why not take that article and make it as a video? Just change the title to something different.

If you just keep on doing that over and over again, then this will build up to tens and hundreds of articles and videos for you online.

There is a problem with video marketing and I'm surprised it is not discussed more often here.

Now don't take me wrong. I think video marketing is very powerful. But I do not see it replacing article marketing any time soon.

You see, too many video directories use your content to monetize their sites with unrelated commercials. Many are as bad as TV and visitors who are looking for content are looking for content, not hot-dog commercials.

At least with article marketing, even though the written advertising is there and some even with crap jumping at the reader, the reader doesn't have to suffer through the sound of forced video commercials.

That's just my opinion, but I hate intrusive commercials.

      My best to you.

First there was PRINT, then came AUDIO and
everyone thought that would replace print, but
    it didn't.

Then came VIDEO and everyone thought it
would replace print, but it didn't. We still buy
and read books, magazines, newspapers, etc

I see the same thing happening with articles
    and article marketing,
