Wordpress, Xsitepro or Serif Webplus x4?

Hi all

This is the first question I've asked in WF, always tried to help others but now need some advice....

I own 3 web building tools (as in the title of post).

I want to build nearly 70 affiliate marketing sites (using just one of the tools) to add to the 10 I have built using just my own html skills.

If it were you which of the 3 woiuld you use and why?

I plan to build sites of approx 8 to 10 pages and want to avoid any future action by Google re thin sites with too many affiliate links.

I need them to be future proof and to be flexible enough to update quickly.

Which would you use and why?

All views appreciated.

Best regards
Bobby

    I will go for wordpress.

It has huge following, so if you'll have issues with it down the road, you can get lots of advice and info online

Plus there are tons freelance designers and coders that knows this. I'm not sure about the other two.

Wordpress sites you will need to upgrade when WP upgrades for
security reasons. The advantages of Wordpress are considerable,
especially in terms of plugins available.

...but static HTML sites are very stable. That's an advantage if
you want to put them up and forget about them. More secure
    too.

Honestly Bobby, your question is perplexing because you use all three applications and assuming you are familiar with each one, you are the best person to answer that question.

      Unless I'm missing something???

So my question is, since you use all three, what's stopping you from coming to your conclusions as to which one is better for YOU?

In other words, you may get a ton of opinions but the reality is, which application you use for this project really depends on YOU and not anyone else's opinion(s).

I use WP, XSitePro, Scripts and sometimes Dreamweaver and which application I use depends on the site or series of sites based on my personal experience with each application.

I have been using Xsite for several years now and love it. It makes building sites about as easy as it can get, especially if you are looking at building mid size sites. If you have been building HTML sites Xsite or WP should be a breeze for you.

That being said I wish I would have tried WP before dropping the cash on Xsite Pro. It sounds like WP is a pretty powerfull tool that gets lots of updates and supports tons of plug ins.

I don't think you would go wrong either way, but obviously WP sounds a lot more economical

XSitePro was always too expensive for my wallet, and still is. Wordpress is free, and has features that Google loves. Not familiar with Serif at all.

There are 3 answers to this question; (maybe 4)

WordPress - Sooooo easy to use.

WordPress - It's fully supported, updated constantly, and has many plugins with the list growing everyday.

      WordPress - Google loves it.

And if you know ftp and html or even know something about an html editor like DreamWeaver or even KompoZer, you can rock on.....

Great video - love it Nat king Cole brill, anyway I started of with FRONT PAGE Lol however wordpress in my opinion is the best, I have never used Xsite pro I do use Whitehat copycat 2 sites, but I do understand Xsite pro is pretty quick. Wordpress with CB net ping optimizer and RSS feeds and feed agrigators in my opinion is the best way to go. If I build sites with Wordpress and I do, they have just one post which is the home page, the other pages are just that pages, this works well for me and I can give you a link to some free videos if you want showing how to set up wordpress as a site rather than a blog, they are from a program which I never joined but I still find them useful to check back on.

          All the best John

Thanks for the feedback thus far guys.

Loren I agree HTML static sites are very stable and no need to update software and plugins etc.

Giles perhaps I wasnt clear enough - I have never used wordpress, but have read about Google clamping down on affiliate WP sites. So what I was asking was for others experience, if I knew what others experience was I wouldn't have asked the question!. So my question was about YOUR experience not mine.

Scrambler I like Xsitepro too, however the updates and built in html editor aren't so hot. I have 3 sites on page 1 of Google using it!

Ckatheman - thanks for your views.

Jlucado, strange I was sure I detected a subtle hint of bias in your reply, thanks for your opinion

Any other views from personal experience?

    Thanks
    Bobby

So it appeared [at least to me] as though you were saying that you used all three applications.

Now that you cleared that up.

If you searched the WF concerning this matter; XSitePro versus WordPress, you're going to find proponents, pundits and naysayers on both sides.

There are certain threads that are [3 pages and more] of individuals asserting their opinions why they believe the application they use is the best. All of those threads ended with this conclusion.

Some people love and use XSitePro and some people love and use WordPress.

The only way for you decide is become proficient with both or all three applications and then decide for yourself.

One thing is clear; NONE of the applications offer any decided SEO advantage or disadvantage.

        Hi Giles

Thanks for the reply but you're missing my point! Probably because I didn't make it well enough

I'm not asking if people love and use XSitePro or if people love and use WordPress, or anything related to useability.

what I'm asking (see my post)...."I plan to build sites of approx 8 to 10 pages and want to avoid any future action by Google re thin sites with too many affiliate links.

So I'm trying to gauge whether or not anyone has an insight into the potential for Google to come down on one type of site more than the others, in other words...future proofing'.

Let me give you an example to save confusion...

Lets say 3 different people are promoting the same affiliate programmes / products. Each person has 1000 sites. Can you imagine the panic if Google suddenly says...we dont like affiliate sites any shorter than 3 pages and we dont like xyz plugin. Or we dont like the way Xsite pro strucures its' html, or we dont like the way that Webplus does such and such....

I know its trying to read the future and thats impossible, but .... which platform would be most likely to withstand and be most quickly adapted to these type of whim decisions by Google, is sort of what I'm trying to get at...

        Any views appreciated

        Regards
        Bobby

I personally use Serif. I like the fact that it has easy navigation bars and it just takes seconds to create links, insert files, and update to the web.

However, it is all about what you know how to use. All of them take time and skill to master

Google doesn't care what tool you use to create your sites. What they do care about is your content. If you produce unique, relevant and interesting content, Google will love you no matter what you used to produce that content. IMHO

      What Brian said ^^

Nobody, including the big G. cares about the tool you've used to build your site(s).
People saying G. "loves" WP... are clueless.

Based on your OP, if you are afraid of G. "punishing" sites with too many affiliate links (link farms?) then you should NOT put too many links on those sites - no matter how you build them. Regardless of the website building tool you can put as many affiliate links on them as you want. A reasonable person wouldn't put zillion of links, of course. But that has nothing to do with the CMS or web building tool.

I've used all three. I haven't used XSitePro for a few years, so can't comment on the code produced by it.

I have Serif WebPlus X4 and it does make it easy to produce nice sites. I'm not a coder, but I do have my doubts about the code it produces. They may be misplaced doubts. If you use X4 you are reliant on Serif to produce updates and keep the code as clean as possible. If you use their extras you are also reliant on them continuing to provide them.

These days I use Wordpress for all new sites, both my own and my clients. One of the big advantages is the frequency with which it is updated. If Google does take against any aspects of its code, or any of its plug-ins it is very likely that relevant updates will be issued asap.

I guess it depends on the person but most people love it. It is easy to use out of the box, yet you can fiddle with it and customize it anyway you like. Wordpress is good since you learn along the way to do more and more advanced things.

Wordpress! Great for SEO & those without much website design experience. Tons of free themes & plugins to choose from & lots of support/advice available. I also like that it lets you know whenever updates are available, & doing them is a matter of two clicks.

I used to use XsitePro quite a lot, but have mostly switched to WP....In some ways its harder to get a custom look with WP, but as you master it, plug-ins and themes just get better and better. It started as a blogging platform, but with many themes its hard to tell it's not a static site.

Hi Bobby, I have no crystal ball regarding what Google may do in the future, but, at present, they do not appear to favour any one type of site over another.

I would be more concerned with the practicalities of a) building 80 sites, and, b) maintaining 80 sites.

I do not use Serif, but have several XSitePro, and Wordpress sites.

My XSitePro sites can be left, and some have been, for years, without maintainance, in contrast, everytime I log in to a WP site, I find there are several things that need my attention, like comments, and updates.

Google has even started emailing me telling me to update WP sites to the latest version, through Analytics, cheek!

Obviously, you do not want a comparison debate here, but, with every update, comes more code, making a slower site, and speed is a big issue in SEO.

I know that there are thousands of people here that claim WP is somehow superior to XSitePro, but I like to see things for myself, always being aware of the story of the emporers new clothes.

These issues will remain, with, or without Google updates, and I believe they have just had a big one today.

    Hi Bobby,

Doing niche marketing by building multiple profitable niche sites can definitely make good money online.

If you are serious about building a successful Internet marketing business, you will need to consider building sites that you have 100% ownership and control over.

An excellent way to start is to get yourself a reliable web hosting account and use self-hosted Wordpress to build your money-making websites.

WordPress allows people an outlet to showcase different things: a blog for hobbies from food to celebrities; a place to sell things or make money online; or even just for the creation of their own personal websites. WordPress gives them the freedom to be creative and to customize their websites the way they want to.

WordPress provides an easy and immediate means of getting a site set up and getting your online wheels rolling.

Let me know if you need my expertise to help you build a portfolio of lucrative niche wordpress sites.

All the best to your online marketing endeavours!

This is an extremely hard question to answer. The truth is that Google can make any decisions today and change them tomorrow with the drop of a dime. My suggestion is to focus on the content and really try to not worry about the platform itself in terms of google liking it. Wordpress is really great for this type of activity. I would also suggest using only the necessary plugins and not overloading with that aspect as well. I guess at the end of the day what you do today may not be good tomorrow but such is life right. Content is king.

Serif products are inexpensive. However, I say - pay a low price. Then you get a crappy service. I do not like serif any. WP is free and you get all the PHP source. That means you can make changes you want and customize it all you want yo. I think most here use word press. Personally, I prefer straight HTML which is easy to move.
