Will tehre be another google PR update ?

Did google say if they will stop doing PR updates? I really want to see the progress on some of my newer websites...

I think I heard someone said google won't be doing them in the future but I hope not... However it's been at least 2 months since around the time when the second update should have happened. The last one was back in April .

    Hi Natlex,

I am not a Google expert, but I'd like to ask you a question...

If Google NEVER does another update, what will that mean to your business, and what can you do to make it less of a problem?

    All the best,
    Michael

If Google never does another PR update which looks like it could be reality, they should phase out the PR bar.

Though Google keeps harping about PR being one of 200 metrics and not really important, that's not how people view it.

Advertisers still look at PageRank, so if Google hasn't updated it since April and you launched a site after the last toolbar update, then it hurts your ad revenue.

On that note, they should either update it or remove it completely so Advertisers don't look at it--since it penalizes websites that were launched after the last update.

Of course PR looks great on a website but the reality is that it has nothing to do with how much money you can make out of your website.

I have a blog which is PR4 and also a new affiliate site which is PR0. My PR0 site is on google's first page and website is on the second page as I did not do much backlinking to this site.

Conclusion, it is all about the traffic you drive to your site with article marketing, backlink campaigns etc.

For me, I am happy to be on page 1 without any PR ranking. You are right about the delay of PR update, it should have been in the first days of August, but it didn't happen.

Very true .... unless you are trying to sell it and then for some reason it seem to make a lot of difference in the price you can get.

I don't care about the PR of my own websites. I care for the PR of my backlinks etc which is probably one of the reasons google might not consider doing PR updates in the future (maybe less spam? though spammers will just spam everything anyway). Or it might be to make link seling/trading harder which google never liked.

I care about PR for my web 2.0 sites, see which ones are well ranked by google and giving me good backlinks to my own websites etc. I also like to see the PR of my articles on other websites. I was suprised to see some of them reaching PR4 on ezine a while back without any backlinks from me which means they gave quite a bit of link power to my own website.

And high PR directly leads to more traffic on my own website. Sure not viewing it won't change anything in this case but higher PR makes my inner pages rank more quickly since when I interlink my pages they start with stronger "internal backlinks".

And if google never does a PR update again? Well it's not the end of the world, it would just suck basically .

Funny, I haven't paid attention to PR for months... but.

But I would assume either this month or next one will come

I did not pay attention to my PR, Alexa or anything and I just focused on building in my content in some first few months when I stepped into internet marketing and guess what, 3 4 months later, my site got PR 3

I agree with Michael that you should ask yourself, what you will do if Google never update PR and you will figure out what you need to do

I have been dogging Google for years for making PageRank visible to the public...

On the one hand, they complain about paid links and the things that people are doing to manipulate results, and on the other hand, they show people every day the incentive they need to keep abusing the Google algos, by showing that little green bar in their toolbar...

Google created the problem of abusing the Google algo, and they are the only ones who can make a serious impact in lowering the abuse by doing away with the reminder to build links -- the PageRank display in our browsers...

If September comes and goes without an update, then I will think that Google finally pulled their heads out of their proverbial asses... I have always noticed the Sept PageRank updates, but not the others...

Will it be the end of the world... Certainly not, because the actual number they provide there is for the most part useless...

Pagerank is important when it comes to getting people to swap links with you or even when selling links.

In answer to the original question try downloading the mozbar from seomoz.oirg - it updates a lot more and gives a nice indication of pagerank

I've tried the Mozrank stuff and it seems pretty off IMO.

I had three new websites that shot up to a Domain Authority of 60 or higher in about 2 or three months.

Today, with thousands of new backlinks what's the highest domain authority of those sites? Around 35 now. More domain age, thousands more quality backlinks, and the Domain Authority drops almost in half?

Domain Authority seems buggy on that note and it's really slow to show number of linking domains / backlink count.

Yahoo backlink count still seems to be the fastest updated metric IMO.

      Actually, I think that's a good question.

If Google decides to no longer to PR updates, then what does that mean for everyone trying to backlink from authority sites.

Are High PR sites frozen forever? Does that change the algorithm?

There's a lot more factors involved. It's true you can get around the traffic bit with the PR ranking, but for those SEO companies out there and link-building services...what happens?

Whatever changes to the rules, it would be nice to know.

Sometimes it's better to not pay attention to the rumours as they could lead to you taking counter productive measures. Yet even if this is the case make sure you have a backup plan at the ready.

The people that don't care about PR are the people who don't kno why it is important for one to know the PR of your site. It has huge benefits and Google should never do away with it and should hurry up and do an update too because people need to move forth and there are many whitehat reasons PR is important too and Google know this. So there you have it - PR IS important and the longer this update takes to come around the longer it is hampering the sites that haven't been updated and rewarding the sites that have. It needs to be fair and if Mashable can have their PR7 shown nicely in the PR bar then everyone behind Mashable who's still sitting at a PR 0 should be rewarded too.

It's November here and still no PR update news. I have heard mixed opinions on the issue. The one is that the update will be in late December-January, and the other is that there will be no updates at all. The fact that now you cannot see PR in Google toolbar kind of votes for the latter thing.
I don't think it will be a disaster if Google stops updating PR, but it would be good if he updated backlinks. So far for several past months I have seen no movement in this regard.
