Slashing Subscriber Acquisition Costs (PPV, Media Buys, etc)....

I'm curious to hear any tactics people are using to lower their subscriber acquisition costs - in other words, how much does it cost to get one additional person on your mailing list...

This is mostly for people using paid traffic, although I would argue if you are spending any labor hours doing SEO you need to know this too.

1) What tactics are you guys using to find and test different new traffic sources (other than the popular adwords, yahoo, bing)

2) How do you track and measure which traffic sources are CONVERTING THE BEST

3) Do you set a budget based on a set subscriber acquisiton cost or a more general ad budget (ex. "I don't want to pay more than $1/subscriber" vs. "I am only going to spend $1000 on a paid advertising to get people on my list"..or whatever)

I'm happy to share my ideas and hear what others have to say as well...

For me its more important to look at ROI. Not all subscribers are equal. Some sources may give you lots of signups but no sales.

Segment your list by traffic source and this will help you find the right balance of advertising costs that get you the best ROI.
