During the week I started blogging using Google Trends as a means to gather up some current hot topics.

At present I've two systems up and running and I'm testing which is the most effective, so comments would be appreciated.

In the first I set up a directory for each article I'm writing about (it really only stays there for about three-four days max. and has no links into the other part of the site.) The directory and the article have the same name e.g. www.mydomain/johnmccain/johnmccain.html (illustration only)

My second is carried out via a Word Press blog again hosted within its own directory on the same site. So lets say I had the same article on McCain it would read something like this www.mydomain.com/blog//news/johnmccain/

It would seem to me though that a blog gets indexed more quickly than a standard site and at this point in time I'm been drawn towards the blog, but I would appreciate opinions.

I have also been reading of another way to do the same thing via Blogger. The idea seems to be that you set up a blog - call it something like 'http://johnmccain-gains-ground.blogspot.com/' and again your post would be entitled 'johnmccain-gains-ground.' Let it stay up for four or five days and delete. If you were putting one or two blogs up each day you'd have to do this to keep from getting swamped.

Anybody worked this system before and if so which of the three ways of publishing it would you recommend? Which is more search engine friendly?

Many thanks for any input.

Kevin

I'd recommend that you stick with building the pages using blogging software like Wordpress. You may want to look into setting up Wordpress MU on a domain just for this purpose. WPMU allows you to very quickly create new blogs and manage them all from a single administrator. The other major benefit of WPMU is that you can setup your blogs on subdomains automatically. This is actually the software that Wordpress.com uses to host your free blogs.

So, you could get a domain like www.hotnewstrends.com and create subdomain blogs on it with WPMU like john-mccain.hotnewstrends.com . You'd then post articles to it with SEO'd titles and page names like john-mccain.hotnewstrends.com/john-mccain-gaining-ground

With the plethora of plugins available for Wordpress it's very easy to get quickly indexed and backlinks coming in to get the traffic started. Google loves Wordpress sites, so they most often will reward you for using it.

Hope that gives you some thoughts to go on.

Entrepenerd. I want to thank you for your post.

One question, though, what is the advantage to having the subdomains? Does it simply increase the site's weight for the keywords?
