Procrastination and priorities

Hi guys,

I've known about internet marketing for a few years, bought loads of products on different methods (article marketing, SEO, list building, affiliate marketing, product creation, social marketing, etc etc etc) and have even made a few bucks here and there.

However I'm at a point where I can easily tell someone all the theory and how to get going, but havent myself got to a point where I have a consistent online income or have even achieved that 'elusive' passive income.

So I guess my question is to those full time marketers out there and goes something like:

1) how do you keep motivated and stop life getting in the way of building an online business (I currently work 50-60 hour weeks as a business strategist, not leaving much free time)

2) How to you prioritise projects ( I have so many ideas, it's difficult not to spread myself too thin)

3) Realisitcally how long do you think it takes to go from dabbler to full time marketer?

Cheers for the input guys

Jack

Hi Jack, I'm a student-marketer but I'll share with you what I do everyday.

    1) I'm interested in business, and I always watch this 2 videos to start my day. .

    2) I focus on my current project until I get it done before moving on to the next.

    3) I "work" about 3-4 hours per day, or more when I get the time. Actually, it's not work for me because somehow, I enjoy the process.

Even though I'm not making too much money yet, here's my advice:

    1) Stop buying info products. If you have gone through several of the already, you know more than enough to make money.
2)Since you don't have too much time for working online, stick to one project at a time. You probably have several ideas already, just pick one of them and keep working on it until you've made it or until there is no way you could improve it. Only then you should consider starting something new.

    I hope this helps.

Create a plan of action. Write down all the steps you need to do and create a checklist. Then hang this right next to your computer. Productivity will increase greatly. Get a second computer monitor if you don't have one, this will increase productivity by 49%. (I run triple monitors for most of my work and it helps a lot, I have another computer with a dual monitor setup that is used for accounting and running background programs...ie don't slow down your main system).

    1) Build one website at a time, until you get the hang of it. You'll find that you improve your skills as you go along, so don't try and tackle 10 websites at once until you have a forumula.

    2) Pick a project that you know you'll be successful with. The taste of success will drive your motivation

    3) It took me about 3 years to make the jump and I still have a lot to learn. Others have done it in 6 months or less. I was in the same situation as you working mass hours and trying to have a social life.

1 - You need to have self motivation, you need to do this yourself, if you need someone else to motivate you then a 9-5 job is probably better off for you

    2 - Deadlines vs. Profit

3 - It really depends on how hard you work

    Hi Jack!

I am a born procrastinator so I know how you feel. I work a full time day job as well and I spent about three months or so "learning" IM.

After watching countless videos and grabbing all the free information I could find I finally wrote myself a sticky and posted it on my monitor. It reads:

    Stop searching and start doing!
You already know what you need to know!

Now I am also a single parent and I am taking classes to finish my BS in Business. Sooooo, what I am trying to say, just pick a method, any method and do it.

I currently spend about an hour a day. I am working on building my Zombie Blog empire. I have 25 sites up and my goal is 200 by Thanksgiving. I also started submitting an article a week to InfoBarrel. Some people raise issue with giving away the rights to your work, but my goal is to build some sort of passive income.

Another piece of advice I was given, was it takes as long as it takes. For me that was quite helpful as I kept setting date goals and becoming disappointed when life got in the way of achieving them. Now I set production goals and keep a pocket size calendar in my desk drawer. For each day that I set up at least one blog I "X" off the day. I aim for two but one is better than none.

Sorry, didn't realize how long I was rambling on. Hope you found this helpful.
