Redirects? www. MyDomain.com/recommends - but No .htm extension?

Some emails send by the gurus usually are a redirect such as,

www. MyDomain.com/recommends

or

www. MyDomain.com/gift

Which go to other affiliate pages (affilite url hidden)

But in the Emails, I don't see any .htm after each of their pages, like here.
Why not these?
www. MyDomain.com/recommends.htm

www. MyDomain.com/gift.htm

howcome no .htm are showing ? (I know reason one is so them urls look more attractive, so they exclude the .htm) but i thought it is Unsafe to use URLs with no .htm ? or is it ok?

and as no .htm is being used, then are any special requirements required in the page source Html? or just exactly asif it was
#htm #mydomaincom or recommends #redirects #www

When there is no file extension (like .htm), it's a folder, not a file. Inside that folder is a index.htm, index.HTML or index.php which contains the content. There is no need to end your URL with a file name.

      Thanks.

Here is what i want to do

I basically want to do the same, and redirect that URL (folder) - with No .htm into a Redirect page.....which goes to an Affiliate page.

      Would I need a index.htm, index.HTML or index.php file inside the folder?

and is it in the index.htm file I would enter the redirect code?

It can also be done with htaccess. You can configure it so that you needn't use the extension when giving out the URL.

Dan's content is irregularly read by handfuls of people. Join the elite few by reading his blog: dcrBlogs.com, following him on Twitter: dcrTweets.com or reading his fiction: dcrWrites.com but NOT by Clicking Here!

Dan also writes content for hire, but you can't afford him anyway.

          That's not difficult at all.

Create a folder, let's say 'test'.

In the test folder, you will need 2 files

          index.html / index.htm
          and
          index.php

The index.html includes frameset with the index.php url.

The index.php url will include a redirect header code
to point at your affiliate link.

It's very easy to set up.

If you are still not sure, just let me know,
I will send you a sample files.

I have just done it with the index.htm, but is the index.php really required?

Another query, in the autoresponder email urls, for each of my links, is the http:// required?

            http://www. MyDomain.com/gift

or can I get away with this following one

            -> www. MyDomain.com/gift

What are the advantages and disadvantages of including http:// and Not including it?

Use your ftp on online file manager to make a new folder

            say blah.com/NewFolder/

This program I wrote which is free with no optin required will make your redirect for you making a frame before the redirect so your viewers will have something to see as they are being redirected.

On your hard drive make a file index.htm or index.html

If you don't know how to make a redirect use this program
Ricks FREE Web Page Frame and Redirect Maker WITH Resale Rights (ugliest page I've ever made)

Oops optin was required so here's the exe

            http://newbieservices.com/InternetSo...FrameMaker.exe

If you already know how to make a refresh then you don't need the program. I always forget the code which is why I wrote it

Now upload the index.htm to the new directory. Since index.htm and index.html (html has priority over htm) is the default file name you do not need the index.htm

            Rick

Take your pick of methods... Remove .html with .htaccess
