A friend of mine referred me to this post

Is Feedburner Still Relevant?

which complains about significant fluctuation in numbers reported by Feedburner.

Are people generally happy with Feedburner, or is there really a move away from it, as the above poster infers (without giving any evidence)?

Are there valid reasons for such fluctuations?

I"m testing a service called FeedMailPro (google it- I don't have enough posts yet to make a link)

It basically does what feedburner does except it has a few extra features like a custom thank you page option, a follow up email option and a "blast" option.

It is free up to 1000 subscribers and only $10 a month for any number over that

If it works out it seems like a good alternative to me.

My personal opinion is that Feedburner started going downhill after Google bought it.

When they were independent, they had to provide a quality service. They had to be useful and as accurate as possible. Otherwise, why use them when there were (at the time) other alternatives? They made it simple and easy. They had lots of features.

Then, Google bought them. And then it became a Google toy, just one of those shiny new things that Google will play with for a while, and then leave it out in the rain to rust.

I've still got it on blogs I set up with it years ago (before Google bought them), but I don't use Feedburner on any new blogs or sites I set up. My opinion is that it would be best to use something you control (such as the built-in feed) rather than something that is controlled by a third-party.

Dan's content is irregularly read by handfuls of people. Join the elite few by reading his blog: dcrBlogs.com, following him on Twitter: dcrTweets.com or reading his fiction: dcrWrites.com but NOT by Clicking Here!

Dan also writes content for hire, but you can't afford him anyway.

I think it is as alot of people still burn feeds to get updates from peoples blogs. Its just not as popular as or as good as it use to be.
