That's still a puzzle to me. I have a site that has user generated blog posts, and they rank in page 1 for random keywords. And yet, I can say 100% that these blog posts are not optimized, some of them are even non-sense posts made by members.

I can only suspect that Google considers the site an authority for a specific niche, and we are ranking well for non-competitive keywords for that niche.

It is very easy. Every single website I am is like this.

First having all your traffic from one source is running a dangerous business. I get about 6,000 visitors from Google which is 7% of my overall traffic. You must be using other methods like videos, articles, social media, classifieds and whatever else to bring you traffic.

I got a friend a months ago lost 80% of his business because it was all google traffic. DONT just depend on SEO, look at all the other traffic sources out there (I just released a really HOT WSO today that talks about everything, but google)

    Cheers,
    Mukul

Mukul hit it on the head here...

Google is simply ONE SOURCE of traffic, not the only source...

I am similar in my results... I receive 22,000 visitors per month, but search engines only deliver 45% of my total traffic, and Google is only responsible for 40% of my total traffic...

      Links, links, links...

Videos, articles, social media, classifieds and whatever else you can think of to get more links will work... Viral pdf's, software with links, paid ads, you name it...

Guest posts on high traffic blogs and websites, guest articles in both...

If you rely on only one source of traffic, you have built a house of cards that will surely fall if the wind changes directions ever so slightly...

I have seen businesses go from $100k per month to less than $2k per month, because Google changed its algorithm... When the company was strong, it relied on Google, instead of diversifying its promotional budget... Then when Google made a minor alteration, their traffic and revenue dried up faster than global warming...

I have a hard time feeling sorry for the guys who went under, because they were dumb enough to put all of their eggs into the Google basket...

Diversify your link building, always.... Get your links and traffic from a variety of sources... ALWAYS...

Advertise in newsletters... Do ad swaps with other bloggers... Buy banner advertising from Adbrite and other such companies...

Make Facebook applications and add a small link at the bottom of the application to your website...

      Diversify always...

Did you know that YouTube and Facebook both get more traffic than Google?

Did you know that MSN and Yahoo are starting to win users from Google...

Did you know that Google is not the almighty god that so many people want to believe it to be?

SEO is not the end game, but rather just one channel of advertising for a business...

Blogs are set up perfectly for lots of repeat visitors too. They are "sticky" that way by design - at least the ones that are regularly updated with new posts. Smart blog owners get a lot of bookmarks and they also build lists. And then if their content is enticing enough, they also get blogrolled by a lot of related blogs. Those 3 things alone can take a good blog to serious levels of traffic while totally ignoring Google.

I agree with what everyone else is saying. A blog can get a lot of traffic from many sources. I have personally got a lot of traffic from youtube for one of my sites.
