Best way to recruit new affiliates?

I'm trying to generate ideas on how to recruit new affiliates to drive traffic to my web site. I'm fairly new at this, so I really only know about ABestWeb. Are there other sites/resources out there that I should be looking at?

As a former affiliate manager, I can tell you numbers speak loudly. Video proof or screen shots of traffic and conversions as well as the CPV (Cost Per Visitor) are big factors - if you don't have a group of affiliates who already know and trust you.

What if I 'm just getting started and don't really have significant traffic the speak of? I'm hoping that affiliates will be a big part of my traffic.

IMHO if you're serious about making this a real business you should be serious enough to spend some money on PPC to find out what your numbers and ratios are.

I'm not afraid to spend money on CPC and can hold my own with Adwords. HOWEVER, this is an auction web site. So, it's a big risk to only use AdWords because I can't afford to have traffic trickle in - I would take a beating on each auction. Thats why I'm exploring the use of affiliates.

The best way to recruit affiliates is by having a product that is worth buying. Affiliates like to promote products that they believe in themselves. The next step is having a payout that is good for affiliates so that they can use pay per click or other services to promote the product. An affiliate is not going to bother promoting a product that they can only make $15 per sale on because the risk is higher than the reward. If your product gives out $50 or more per sale, you should be alright.

Focus on creating a website that has a very nice layout. This attracts affiliates because nice layouts leads to higher conversions. When I look for products, the website has to look professional. If it's looks cheap and sloppy, then I don't bother promoting the product because I know that customers are less likely to buy it.

The next step is to start contacting people that are in your niche to promote your product. Look for people that have email lists. Give them the product for free, and tell them that they can promote it to their email list. If the product is good, they are likely to promote it because it will make them money.

I see that you already posted in the Joint Ventures, so that will help out. The reality is that you're going to need to continue posting on this forum because this is where you will find affiliates. Make a signature link that says something like "Promote my product and make this amount of money per sale". Direct this link to a page that describes everything about your product and how good it is.

You can also try building an email list yourself. Give away something of value up front that isn't your product and build the list. Then after a while, you can tell them about the product you developed and sell it to them. You will also be able to do ad swaps with other email lists and continue to make money.

Appreciate the through reply. Are you saying that most affiliates would not be interested in a $2-3 commission?

Nobody is going to be interested in a $2-3 commission for a product unless they could sell it to thousands of people overnight. People are making a lot more than that selling digital products online. I don't know what your product is or what you are selling, so it's hard for me to say more than that.

It seems like you're doing something with gift cards, but I don't know anything about it. If you explain more about what you're trying to do, you will be able to get more feedback.

I've developed a web site that is a penny auction for gift cards. So, individual commissions are not high but the odds for repeat purchases is fairly high.

The site doesn't look too bad, but the wording for the images doesn't seem clear. Also, the How it works and stuff like that isn't in English. That's a problem if you're targeting Americans. Just looked at the outback giftcard and you spelled "stake" instead of "steak". That may prevent people from buying it, but this is just little stuff.

I do like the idea of what you are doing. I don't know how you are going to make money with it though. How would you be able to sell a $50 gift card for less than $50 and make money? Is there a reserve you're looking for? I do think that this idea can make you a lot of money if you gain a lot of trust with this site. Obviously, there's some way that you're making money giving these offers. If you can give good discounts to customers, then you should be able to make money.

As far as the affiliates go, I don't know how you'll be able to get them. I don't think you need affiliates. However, you do need exposure. Main stream media is the best bet, but you probably dont have that kind of money. You're going to need radio advertising and television advertising. "Go to giftcardsforapenny.com, and get gift cards at a very cheap price for all the stores that you need". Something like that would work, but you need to focus on the offline audience.

            Appreciate the feedback.

Indeed, the site is still in an Alpha stage but close enough where I want to start recruiting affiliates. The "how it works" page is still Lorem Ipsum and my graphics gal will be finishing the final assets soon.

Again, the site is fully functional, I'm really here to get a head start on the marketing side of it

If you have the money for offline advertising, then go for it. TV and radio are the best places to advertise. Don't think so small with PPC and internet advertising. I will always consider offline advertising the best place to start because the internet comes around on its own.

However, most people can't afford offline advertising. Therefore, they go online because it's cheaper. However to truly be successful and build a global brand, you need to focus on the offline audience. Big companies start offline, and then people just naturally flock to their site online.

In todays day & age, offline adverts seem so "regional"
