I started my first political blog that I am actually working on day in, day out. everyday I am getting more views, more uniques, so that at least makes me feel well. I have a couple pod cast on there that I did, but mainly doing opinion pieces on news stories.
My question is: should I start trying to make money on it now while traffic is small and find out what my followers click on, or just wait a few months, get more followers and then go for the green?
Thanks in advance.

Lionel

I thought this post of yours was a confession that you screwed up the title of this thread: instead of blog you wrote "forum".

So, I decided to give you instructions HOW to change the title of a thread.

I am sorry, I'm not sure if you are serious or disagreeing. If serious, I am lost. If disagree, right back at you.

I am not the expert, but I have heard that it is better to monitize your blog lightly at first so your visitors get used to it. Slowly add ads as your popularity grows.

It seems that some people only link to non-profits so when ads appear, they suddenly drop their links, which could affect your ranking.

    People are strange....

I was planning on going a couple months before i added anything. we'll see. Maybe a couple book reviews on books I have read, then link to Amazon. Soon. I really don't want this blog to be in your face when it comes to adds unless I am able to give some great ROI...We will see how that can work out.

Yes, some people do. To get them to link to you anyway, you must be compelling, different and valuable. Looking at the 1st page of SE results lately, that should be easier than it sounds. With a political blog, expressing outrageous views is a plus. Expounding on views no one would admit in public, but secretly extol is a great way to increase links, ad clicks or purchases. Also promulgating esoteric cogitations, including platitudinous and ponderous tenets as you do, is a sure way to keep them returning, contariwise to some precepts.

Maybe I should explain that last post better?

In a political blog, every one that reads it will disagree with at least one thing you say eventually. The flip side is every one will eventually agree with something you say.

In the meantime, it is important to say whatever you do in a manner that those who agree with you can get a hold of it while those that disagree can view your opinions as 'entertainment'.

Much like Steven Colbert pretends to be a conservative and actually has a conservative following that believe what he says, when in fact he is a flaming liberal making fun of conservatives the whole time. He accomplishes this much the same way Rush Limbaugh manages to get both liberal and conservative listeners; with just the right amount of tongue in cheek and using 2 and 3 year college words sprinkled in their ramblings. (The American public comprehends at a 5th grade level of understanding on average). Limbaugh claims to know what the words mean, when it is obvious he doesn't while Colbert uses the word and then acts as if he doesn't know what it means, when he clearly does.

Colbert is cavalier and Limbaugh is angry. Both attitudes allow those that wish to dismiss anything they say as wrong easily, forgiving them, all the while. It also allows those who agree with whatever subject they are talking about to rally behind them.

In any case, it should be a lot of fun. If you make it fun, for you and your readers, you'll not lose too many links and your readership will grow. Do it right and we might be looking at the next 'Daily Show'.
