Hi Warriors!

Just thought you should know..

McAfee has a promo giving away their anti-virus and firewall free for six months.
You'll just have to like their facebook page and it will take you to the free
registration and then download of their software.

I'm not sure if McAfee is the best anti-virus in town but for the free 6 months it's worth a try.

In my experience, Norton is the best AV for Windows, but it eats lots of resources.
Otherwise, ESET is great, too.

For Mac, iAntiVirus and ClamXav are free great tools.

AVG has a version that's free for home users:

AVG Free - Free Antivirus Download | Antivirus Software for Windows 7, Vista and XP

ESET has very low system requirements as @Karan suggests.
ESET - Antivirus Software with Spyware and Malware Protection

VIPRE doesn't eat up much system resources either.
VIPRE Antivirus - The Best Antivirus Protection - Sunbelt Software

The last two aren't free, but only like $30. With all the nastiness on the web today, it's well worth it to have solid protection. Just about a month ago, my local news web site had been hacked and was trying to download a trojan horse to my machine. You no longer have to be visiting "bad" sites to get infected with something.
