How to beat Amazon as an affiliate

If you want to affiliate an amazon product, but the keyword you want to use has amazon.com ranked #1 in that keyword. Does that matter?

Is it possible to create a website with optimized keywords, content and backlinks about that amazon product I am affiliating to rank higher than amazon itself?

I've done months of research on internet marketing but have not come across someone who explained how to beat amazon's #1 or top 5 ranking in google.

I have heard people like Dan Brock say that it doesn't matter if amazon is ranked on the first page or #1, but I don't think he explained why it doesn't matter.

First of all, yes you can outrank amazon's product page. I've done it myself with little effort. Depends on the product.

Second - consider that your search engine listing is an ad. You need to sell the click. Write an interesting meta title and description. People will click even if you rank below amazon.

Here's a neat trick. Pick a pile of products you want to promote. Hire an employee to write basic reviews. Then check rankings after a month. Go back to the ones that are ranking well and redo the reviews to a higher standard.

This way you can hire someone cheap for the test and then go back and improve upon the search engine winners.

Many times the Amazon listing has very few quality backlinks. So it's simply a matter of having more quality backlinks which is not hard at all...It's done all the time!

It depends on the strength of the Amazon product page. An easy way to determine it is by looking at the Page Rank and title tags.

PR of 3+ plus keywords in the title == bad news and means that Amazon are targeting that keyword phrase.

But yeah, it's possible to outrank Amazon (even a PR5 Amazon page) for their keywords - if your SEO Voodoo is, well, up-to-date?

Amazon is easy to beat. A good majority of their internal product pages usually don't have much of a pagerank or backlinks. And even if you came in second under Amazon in the search results you are more likely to get clicks to your site if you use the word 'review' in your title. A lot of people are looking for a good review before they buy.

Use a WordPress theme that has Meta Data available underneath the post. Either that, or use the "All-in-one SEO" plugin.

When you enter your post / page in Wordpress, go to the Title and Description area below the content. It's part of the meta data.

Enter whatever you like. Save post / page.

NOTE: If you have properly setup your "permalinks" (google it if you don't know), your default meta title will be the page title (or post title if it is a post).

I was wondering if that could be easy cash? Just choose a bunch of products, make a bunch of affiliate links and then outsource to someone to backlink it like hell?
That will get your Amazon commissions suspended.

Amazon get's top spot by default because, well... it's Amazon. With quick and easy backlinking you can jump past it.
