The .com url I'm looking to buy is not available. However, the .info .us etc.. iterations of the same url are still for sale. What is everyone's opinion on those? Is there any reason I shouldn't buy them?

Thanks,

Matt

Matt.......try for the .net or .org domains. Those are the much better option . The .info iteration is stereotypically linked to spam type sites, etc. So just out of playing it safe, you may want to steer away from those. Same with .us.
If the .com .net .org domains are taken for the keyword outright, stick a prefix or suffix against the keyword in your domain. Such as earnmoneyonlineinfo.com or ultimatecafeworldguide.net, etc.

Those will work just as well.

  • Hi Matt,

I am no expert but from what I read .org seems to liked by google more than .com now. I noticed in Go Daddy that .org domains are now more expensive than .com so there may be some truth here.

As zosowolfpacker mentions use prefixs or suffixs if you can't get the one you want but something else - run the words together and don't use hyphens etc.

    Hope this helps

I agree try for a .com and with a few different variations to match your niche. If nothing can be found try a .net or .org

    Matt,

If your website is specifically targeting the U.S. market, the '.us' extension may be very appropriate and effective. A growing number of global businesses are using that ccTLD more often for target marketing purposes.

    Good Luck!

I agree go with .net or .org. Check out Nameboy.com to help with the suffixes or even better domain name ideas

Go for the .net and .org first, and if you truly can't find anything then consider looking for the domain with a word tacked on at the end to see if it's available - experiment and try different words to see what's available.

This depends on why you want the name and what you intend to use it for.

If it is a business name or a personal name that you want in your domain, then .com is the king and .net the queen. These are the ones that people mostly remember.

If your name or business name has been already been taken, you need to be creative - 'yourname'online.com, 'yourname'marketing.com - get the idea?

Should you be looking for a key word or key phrase domain, then the suffix matters little to most of the search engine spiders, especially if you use the same key word or phrase in your header.

This is just my opinion, but I hope that it helps.

      Regards,
      Jeff.

From what I understand, the order of "good" domains looks like this:

      1.YourDomainName.com
      2.YourDomainName.net
      3.YourDomainName.org
      4. eYourDomainName.com
      ...

Just add one little character and you'll still have a decent domain name for the SEO purposes.
