What Is A Good Ranking Strategy for an Established Site (real business)?

Hi there!

I'm curious about where things are at with improving Google rankings. I have a potential client's website which is well established (about 6 years old) and ranks okayish given they haven't done anything with it in that time (8-20 for several important keywords).

BTW It's for for a one-location motel. The search results are not particularly competitive.

So what would you recommend as a strategy for getting it in the Top 5 of Google? I have my finger on the Thanks button, so intelligent replies will be rewarded.

Cheers!

If it's for a local motel, I think getting them in the google local results will yield more traffic and results for them than higher organic rankings will... Once u factor in the adwords ads and then the local results, being #5 in the serps may as well be page 2...
