Starting a Keyword Market Research Service - I need Your Advice

Hello all!

I have been in IM for about 5 years now and though I have found some very helpful information on this forum I have yet to really make any head-way. Unfortunately I have recently lost my "real" job of the last 6 years and am having no luck finding a new one.

What I have realized is that I love to do research on-line and am very good at it!

My problem is that I can do the research and put together a decent site but then I lose interest and start researching something else And this brings me to the meat of the matter.

I want to start a keyword market research service to feed my research addiction as well as make an income. This is where I need your help!

If you were going to pay for Keyword Market Research:
  • What information would you want aside from just a list of keywords
  • Would you want to place any restrictions on the information such as minimum or maximum searches?
  • What would you be willing to pay for high quality research?
I have put out a few sample research packs but haven't really gotten much feedback. So I thought I would try this approach because before I buy an ad on the Warrior For Hire section. I really want to know what would the customer want.

There are 3 sample keyword market research (the spreadsheets are in ms works but should also open in either ms excel or open office) packs on this page that you could download and comment on - I really would appreciate any input or advice.

Thanks in advance!

If everything or almost everything is automated then that's great for you but it looks to me like you spend a lot of time creating what is promised on your sales page? Maybe you can confirm?

On the other hand, the stuff that you can give with each kw such as Adwords CPC, KEI etc. I'm not really interested in that and I already have Market Samurai anyway (I know it doesn't do KEI but frankly KEI has fallen out of favour and I don't see the value in it anymore, nor in Wordtrackers amazingly skewed and strange searches).

For this kind of work, I recommend you outsource it. You can be the brains that finds the niches (do a few checks to make sure that the niche will have 30 to 40 kws of this criteria) and then outsource the grunt work.
    Thanks for your response.

The spreadsheets were made on microsoft works but will / should open in either excel or open office.

The research I have provided, in the sample, is fairly basic to me That is why I thought it would be nice to provide the service and make some money in the process.

I included the KEI just because it is another factor that can be considered when sorting keywords. I wanted to do more than just run it through market samuri and put out the exported .csv file.

I actually sort the keywords (by highest average monthly searches and lowest "phrase match" competition) and weed out the obvious bad ones. I am trying to include as much value as possible by also adding the matching available domains and the competition factors -

    • How many top level domains
    • Average PR
    • How many pages/sites with <100 back-links
    • How many pages/sites with .edu or .gov back-links
    • A break down of keyword In-title, In-description and In H1 tags

I also thought about adding information about possible sites/pages for back-links which is a real time killer to do properly.
